JACQUELINE SPENT THE NEXT FEW WEEKS TRAINING WITH STEVE AND OTHER AGENTS. While Steve taught her hand-to-hand combat, the agents like Coulson and Hill helped her with controlling her powers by putting her through situations with intense emotions.

Steve helped her slowly adjust to her new life. He knew what it was like to be out of place. They would take weekly walks out into the city, doing touristy things like visiting the White House, but Jacqueline loved going to the zoo the most. She liked seeing the polar bears and the penguins. She would make it snow for them and they would prance around in happiness.

She also liked the food. Jacqueline's family wouldn't eat out much due to money issues, but also her stepdad would send her to her room without supper often. Hence why she was thinner than she should be. Steve bought her pretzels, hot dogs, ice cream,  and pizza. She felt like she gained ten pounds by the time they made it back to the Triskelion.

Jacq didn't like living there. Everything looked the same. The walls were white, the floors were white, the ceilings were white. She just wanted to take random buckets of paint and splatter everything with it.

Jacqueline definitely trusted Steve a lot more now that she had gotten to know him. But others in SHIELD, not so much. Natasha Romanoff, for example. Jacq didn't really know much about her and the redhead always gave vague answers about her past.

Clint Barton was always kind to her. He treated her like a person, not a ticking time bomb like a lot of agents at SHIELD. He would sneak her in decent food from the outside world so she wasn't stuck eating the cafeteria food for her whole stay. He even helped her with training when Steve wasn't available.

Jacqueline didn't like Nick Fury so much. He didn't like the idea to give her so much freedom and was waiting for her to explode in order to prove everyone right. But she didn't want to give him the satisfaction of being right.

"Miss Braden,  you will be training with Agent Barron today." Fury stated, walking up to the woman stretching on the black mat in the training room.

She looked up at him, confused, "Did something happen to Steve?" Jacq asked, standing up.

"We will both be observing you today." Fury replied, "You will be sparing with Agent Barron to see if there have been any improvements in the past few weeks."

"Yes, sir." Jacqueline gulped nervously, watching as Fury left the room. She stood and wiped the nervous sweat from her palms as the door opened, revealing her opponent. 

Agent Barron was a large man. Like, incredibly large. With a shaved head and a goatee along with biceps the size of her head, "Ready, girl?" He smirked.

With a nod, Jacq raised her fists and bounced on her toes, like Steve taught her to do. Agent Barron let out a laugh before getting ready himself.

She waited for him to swing first. And when he did, Jacqueline ducked and darted behind him. She hopped onto his back, her legs wrapping around his neck. Jacq swung herself to the side to bring Barron down, but he had other ideas.

He grabbed onto her bicep and dragged her forwards, slamming Jacq onto the mat. Jacqueline let out a groan of pain and opened her eyes in time to see Barron swinging his fist down at her. She quickly dodged it and grabbed his arm, holding him down long enough to bring her foot up and kicking Barron in the face.

Barron let out a small howl of pain, staggering back while Jacq stood. When he lowered his hands, Jacqueline winced at the blood leaking from the bridge of his nose, "Sorry?"

With a growl, he launched himself at her and Jaqueline dropped to the ground, causing Barron to trip over her. Jacq winced as he caught himself on her ribs as he fell, sending a flare of pain throughout her torso.

He quickly stood up again and turned towards Jacqueline, "Alright." Barron cracked the bones in his neck, causing her to wince, "Let's bring it up a notch."

"Wait, that was easy?" Jacq asked before he attacked once again.

Barron swung at her and she ducked once again, but this time he was ready. He swung his leg round, catching her torso and knocking the air out of her. With an 'oof', Jacqueline landed on her back on top of the mat.

He kicked her side, causing her to roll away. Before he could kick her again, Jacq reached out and grabbed his boot, turning it to ice, "Hey! You little-" Barron grabbed her by the neck and lifted her up before pinning her to the wall and kicking his boot against the wall, shattering it, "I liked those shoes."

"Maybe we should stop him." Steve suggested to Fury from behind the glass.

"Not yet." Fury replied, not taking his eyes off the fight, "I want to see how this ends."

Jacqueline grabbed onto Barron's arm, "Please, I don't want to hurt you!"

"It's not me I would be worried about." Barron smirked.

Suddenly, she couldn't breathe. Barron squeezed harder and Jacq felt a cool sensation run through her body. Her eyesight went dark and when it came back, Jacq was sitting on the floor. She heard screaming and looked up to see Barron holding his frozen forearm.

"Jacq? Jacq?" The small woman looked up to see Steve checking on her,

"Did I do that?" She asked, looking at the panicking agent with a frozen arm. Of course, she did that. No one else could have.

"Hey, hey, hey." Steve placed his hand under her chin to pull her gaze away, "Don't focus on that, right now. We need to get you down to medical to check on your ribs."

"Steve, I just froze a man's arm!"She exclaimed, her breathing beginning to quicken, "I... I..." The cement below her began to freeze along with the wall she was leaning against. Rogers reached for her again and she pulled away, "Don't! I'll just hurt you, too!"

The air began to freeze and before Jacqueline could pull away again, Steve wrapped his arms around her and pulled her onto his lap, "No!" She cried into his shoulder and Steve stroked her hair.

Someone came over and handed Steve something. Steve's hand left Jacqueline's hair and he slipped her bracelets onto her wrists, "I'm sorry." She mumbled into his neck,

"It's okay." Steve replied, returning his hands to her hair and upper back and glaring at Director Fury, "It's all okay."
