CHAPTER 01

JULY 18, 2011

SOUTHERN FLORIDA

"NO!" JACQUELINE SCREAMED as she was shoved into a closet. She heard yelling and the sound of glass breaking on the other side. The young girl flinched as she listened to the impact of the glass. This happened every couple of weeks. Her step-father drinks too much and becomes violent.

There was a loud thud on the wooden floor and everything went silent, only the sound of Jacqueline's breaths filled the room before she heard footsteps. They stopped in front of the door and she backed up to the farthest wall, trying to make herself as small as possible. The closet door flew open and the man grabbed Jacq by the hair. She whimpered in pain as she dragged her out of the closet and threw her on the floor, ripping her necklace from her neck as he did so.

She let out a cry as she hit the ground. Jacqueline laid on her back and looked to her left, where her mother's corpse lay, "Mommy?" She whispered as ice spread under her fingertips, "Mom!"

"Shut up, you little wench."

Jacq's tears turned to ice as they ran down her face. He aimed a gun at her head and Jacq felt something snap inside of her. In anger, she reached up and grabbed his wrist, turning it to ice.

He screamed in pain and terror as he pulled away from her. Jacq stood and backed into the wall, the ice began to spread throughout the house,

"What the hell are you?!" He screamed, "You freak! Monster!" He stalked towards her, gun raised once again. Before he could pull the trigger, Jacqueline lifted her hands and ice shot from them, hitting him. He slowly began to freeze and she watched with horror on her face.

She stood there only for a moment, trying to comprehend what happened. Jacq looked down at her hands before glancing at the damage she had done.

Clouds formed outside and the neighborhood residents stepped outside and watched in confusion and awe as snow fell. It doesn't snow in Florida. Especially in the summer.

Her step-father froze completely and Jacq took a hesitant step towards him. She made her way over to his frozen statue. She poked it and it turned into pieces. "Oh no." She gasped before sprinting towards the door, tears still running down her face.

Jacq ran down the street, ice following in her footsteps. Snow fell all around her and the wind picked up. She found herself in the park as the blizzard picked up. Jacq stood on a hill that overlooked the whole town. The town was covered in ice and snow.

"Crap."
