004, how to be good
FROZEN HEART ━━ 004
( HOW TO BE GOOD )
DAY ONE OF THE VILLAIN KIDS being at Auradon Prep and so far, nothing happened and Ellie was hoping that it would stay that way. Both her and Kaia sat alone at their table outside under a big oak tree and Ellie just stabbed at her food with her fork.
"Are you just going to stab your lunch or are you going to eat it?" Kaia asked.
"I think I'm just gonna stab it," Ellie said sarcastically before stuffing a forkful of pasta into her mouth.
"Jeez, what's your problem?" Kaia asked. "Are you still thinking about Mal looking at your hands?"
"I'm telling you, she knows something and it's freaking me out," Ellie said.
"What will it take to convince you that she doesn't know anything?"
"For her to stop staring at the gloves on my hands!"
Kaia rolled her eyes and both girls were almost finished their lunch when a girl with red curls sat next to Ellie.
"Hey, guys. What did I miss?" she asked.
"Ellie here, thinks Mal knows about her powers and is out to get her," Kaia said and the blonde glared at the brown skinned girl.
"Don't listen to her, Marisa. She's a very convincing liar," Ellie said and took another bite of her pasta.
"So, I didn't just hear you freaking about the purple haired girl a few tables away from us looking at your hands yesterday and how it freaks you out?" Marisa asked and Ellie sighed through her nose.
"Okay. I thought it wouldn't be the worst idea to have them here but now I'm having second thoughts," Ellie said.
"It was just Mal. There is still Carlos, Evie and Jay," Marisa said.
"Yeah. Okay. Nothing to worry about," Ellie said and finished the rest of her lunch and threw out her garbage.
"Let's go before you start spiralling again," Marisa said while laughing lightly.
Ellie nodded and the three of them grabbed their stuff and started heading back towards the entrance to the school but not without passing the Tourney field where students were trying out for the team while the cheerleading squad practiced their routine.
"Hey, girls! We have room for a few more if you're interested in joining!" Audrey said as she saw the three girls passing by.
"No thank you, Audrey. We've been through this every time you asked us," Kaia said but still smiled.
"That's too bad. You guys could really help us out over here," Audrey said.
"I'd rather take my chances on the Tourney team," Ellie said.
"Looks like they got some new members," Marisa said as she pointed at the two boys talking to Coach Jenkins.
"That's Carlos and Jay," Ellie said when she recognized the two boys.
"Looks like they're getting a pretty good head start on not being evil," Kaia said as they continued walking to class.
"You guys go ahead, I'll catch up," Ellie said as she stooped at her locker.
The other two girls nodded and kept walking while Ellie opened the door of her locker. Once she had everything she needed, she closed her locker and nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw Mal standing right next to her.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you," she said while smiling sweetly. "I guess I can't really blame you for your reaction since we all know who my mother is."
"No! I mean, that's not why I ─ I just didn't know you were there and you surprised me. That's all," Ellie said, hoping she didn't offend the purple haired girl in front of her.
"Say, those gloves are really nice. Mind if I try them on?" Mal asked.
"Actually, I prefer to keep them on. Besides, they might not fit you," Ellie said, hoping that it would discourage the girl from wanting to try on her gloves so she wouldn't have to take them off.
"I'll take my chances. What's the worst that could happen?"
Ellie's heart sped up as she took one of her gloves of and handed it over to Mal. The purple haired girl took a moment to take off her fingerless glove so she could try on Ellie's satin glove while Ellie kept her bare hand at her side, trying not to touch anything until she had her glove back.
"How does it fit?" she asked.
"It's a really good fit. I would like to borrow them for some time but they're white and it kind of clashes with everything I own," Mal said as she took the one glove off and gave it back to the blonde who quickly put it back on. "Ellie, right?"
Ellie nodded as she gripped the strap of her bag even tighter. "That's me," she said.
"Your mother is Queen Elsa of Arendelle, right?"
"That's her."
"Wouldn't it be cool if you happened to have the same powers as her? No pun intended."
"You should know how dangerous it can be if you don't know how to control it. It's even worse when you're scared. That's just coming from my mother's experience before she learned control."
"Sounds pretty bad."
Ellie nodded as she slowly moved away from Mal but smiled kindly.
"Well, it was nice talking to you and I hope you and your friends have a good first day here," she said before turning around and heading to class.
When she got there, Kaia and Marisa were already inside waiting for her.
"Where the heck were you?" Marisa asked. "And what took you so long to get here?"
"I was talking to Mal. More like she came up to me and started talking," Ellie said.
"What did you guys talk about?" Kaia asked.
"You guys, she asked about me, my mom, her powers and my gloves. If that doesn't tell you that she knows something, I don't know what will," Ellie said as she ran her fingers through her hair.
"I mean, she could be genuinely curious," Marisa suggested while shrugging her shoulders.
"She asked me if she could try on my gloves," Ellie said, emphasizing the last bit of her sentence and hoping that her friends would understand why she was so worried.
"Say she does know something. What use would it be to her?" Kaia asked.
"I have no idea," Ellie said. "But I really don't want to find out."
