003, the lost kids

FROZEN HEART ━━ 003

( THE LOST KIDS )

ELLIE COULD HEAR the commotion of people getting riled up over the new arrivals. Some wanted to see for themselves, others wanted to stay as far away from them as possible. Although Ellie was sure it would be a bad idea to go see for herself, she was curious to see who these kids were.

"So, you're not even the tiniest bit curious about who these kids could be?" Ellie asked Kaia who was typing up an assignment that was due the next day.

"Nope," Kaia said without taking her eyes off the screen.

          "Really? Why not?" Ellie asked.

"Because we already know who their parents are. Cruella De Vil, Jafar, the Evil Queen and worst of all, Maleficent," Kaia said and stopped typing to look at Ellie.

          "Do we know their names?"

          "Why bother?"

"Well it would be less awkward if we could know them by their names instead of just referring to them as 'Maleficent's kid' or whatever. I doubt you would like it if people just called you 'Moana's daughter' every time someone saw you or mentioned you instead of just learning your name."

Kaia sighed, "We don't know their names. It wasn't in any of the Auradon Blog reports or in Ben's speech."

Ellie looked outside the window where she saw the villain kids getting outside of the limo that went to pick them up. Two of them, who happened to be boys, fell out while fighting over a blue blanket. Everyone who was there stopped what they were doing to watch them fight over an insignificant piece of cloth like a pair of toddlers while two girls, who happened to be the other two villain kids selected to attend the school, stepped out of the car. They were being greeted by Fairy Godmother, Ben and even Audrey was there.

"Do you want to go down there and get a better look?" Kaia asked. "I can put my assignment down for a few minutes and go down with you."

"Thanks, but I don't need a better look. I can see everything just fine from here," Ellie said.

She didn't take her eyes off the new students as small talk was exchanged judging by the way their lips were moving and the looks on their faces. Maybe going down to say hello wasn't really the best idea and she was better off staying in her dorm with Kaia reading whatever book she felt like reading.

"Maybe you can introduce yourself tomorrow. Just let them settle into their dorms and classes for now," Kaia said as she closed her laptop and put it away.

Ellie looked at Kaia for a few seconds before turning back to the kids outside who were following Ben into the school. Now that they were inside the school where Ben was giving them a tour, all Ellie could do was fall backwards onto her bed.

"I'm so bored," she groaned dramatically while Kaia giggled at her roommate's antics.

"If you're that bored, then let's go for a walk," she suggested.

Although Ellie didn't want to leave the comfort of the dorm she shared with the young Maori girl, she wasn't exactly in any position to complain since she was the one who said she was bored. Sucking in a deep breath, she got up and changed her shirt before putting her shoes on. She put her phone in the back pocket of her washed skinny jeans and ran her fingers through her blonde hair to comb out the few tangles. Kaia frowned at Ellie's choice to wear her white satin gloves outside of the dorm once again but nonetheless locked the door with her copy of their dorm key.

"So, where are we going?" Ellie asked as they started walking down the hallway.

"We don't know yet. That's what makes it fun," Kaia said while smiling widely.

"If I know you as well as I think I do, your idea of fun is doing something stupid," Ellie said.

Kaia chuckled lightly as they walked down the hallway of other dorm rooms where other kids were taking residence in. They were all closed and Ellie assumed it was because they would prefer to hide from the villain kids that were now inside the school. Just as they rounded the corner, they came face to face with Prince Ben and the four villain kids.

"Ellie, Kaia, good to see you. I was just showing our new students around," the boy said with a charming smile.

"We were just going for a walk," Kaia said.

"Then keep walking," a girl with purple hair said with a hand on her hip.

"Mal, this is Kaia and Ellie. Kaia is Moana's daughter and Ellie is the daughter of Queen Elsa," Ben said while pointing to the two girls in front of him. "Guys, this is Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos."

Ellie could feel Mal's intense stare moving down towards her glove covered hands. Out of insecurity, she hid her hands behind her back and tried to avoid the purple haired girl's stare.

"We have to go now," Ellie said as she grabbed Kaia's arm and tugged her down the hallway and away from the others.

"What happened? Just a few minutes ago you were curious to know who they were and now you don't wanna be around them?" Kaia asked.

"Did you see the way Mal looked at me? At my hands?" Ellie asked since they were far away.

"The one with the purple hair?"

"Yeah, her. She was looking at me like she knew something. Does she know I have the same magic my mom does? Does she know that I don't have complete control? What if she does know and uses it against me and tries to"

Ellie started to hyperventilate at the thoughts that were starting to roam around in her mind and the anxiety crashed into her like a tidal wave. Kaia grabbed her shoulders and Ellie snapped back into reality.

"You're spiralling. There's no way that any of them could know for sure about your magic because they haven't even been here for twenty minutes and barely started their tour," Kaia said.

"Kaia, their tour is already finished and they're being shown to their dorms! Ben mentioned my mom and there is no one in the entire kingdom or the next kingdom over that doesn't know about her magic! That's enough to know about mine and that I can't get a grip!" Ellie said.

"Ellie, just breathe," Kaia instructed. Ellie counted her breaths as her heart rate slowly returned to normal and she was a little calmer than before. "Better?"

"Yeah," Ellie said while nodding shortly.

"I heard the cafeteria has mint chip ice cream," Kaia said while smiling.

Ellie's face lit up at the mention of her favourite flavoured ice cream and the both of them headed towards the cafeteria for a bowl of the frozen treat.
