Chapter 40
In the days off from the school festival, Ayano took the time to recover and rest. The Sports festival had taken a lot out of her. More than she expected it to.
Stepping onto the crowded train, Ayano covered her mouth with a yawn, her eye closing. Grabbing onto a strap, once settled, she looked towards the window and she watched all the town's scenery go by.
"Hey, you're Hyida from the hero Course, aren't you?" Someone asked, causing Ayano to look over her shoulder at a man with a horn in the middle of his forehead.
"Woah! That is- face half frozen and all!" Another stranger exclaimed.
"You were amazing in the Sports Festival, so quick! And your quirk's amazing!"
"Keep working hard and maybe you'll be on the podium next year!"
"Thank's everyone!" Ayano thanked nervously, not used to getting as much attention as she was. Even though her parents were heroes, they preferred to keep their identities a secret, only few people knew their actual names, so they didn't get crowded in public a lot with fans.
The train slowed to a stop and and Ayano stepped out into the pouring rain. Luckily, she had a rain poncho on, so her uniform wouldn't get wet. While it was an anti-freezing material, once wet, her body would freeze the rain water causing her uniform to be coated in a layer of ice. The poncho along with an umbrella she got from home allowed Ayano to not get pelted by the rain. Of course, her legs were another story, some drops would land on them and freeze immediately. Looks like she might end up having some small icicles on her legs once she got inside.
Walking through they gate, Ayano noticed two familiar figures up ahead.
"Iida! Midoriya!" She greeted stepping inside the building and shaking out her umbrella. "Good morning you two!"
"Oh! Miss Hyida, good morning!" Iida exclaimed, looking at her, then his gaze went down to her legs, and Ayano could understand why.
"Morning Hyida!" Midoriya exclaimed, before his gaze also went down to her legs.
"I can never escape rain without some icicles forming." She told the two with a chuckle, answering the unspoken question.
"That's strange." Izuku muttered to himself. "Your skin must be so cold that anything freezes on contact."
"It is. Why did you think I always wore hoodies in middle school. Come on Midoriya, I told you this already!"
"Oh right... I never thought of the extent of it before though. Wait, that means, my notebook when Kacchan threw it out the window—!"
"That was me, yep. Must of seen the frost on it I guess."
"Thanks for doing that..." Izuku stated.
"It's fine, it's fine. Anyways, enough about me, Iida, how're you doing?" She had heard about the incident from the news, along with her parents talking about it during dinner the night it happened.
"I'm fine. I apologize for worrying you needlessly." Iida said, looking at the two with a smile. With that, he turned away, and started heading to the classroom.
"Well, we should head to class too." Ayano stated, placing her ice blue raincoat into her locker. "Oh, one second." She balled her hand into a fist and slammed it down onto her ice-covered legs, watching as the ice cracked and fell to the ground, revealing her perfectly dry legs underneath. "Ah, much better. Well, I'll see you in class, Midoriya!"
"Right!" Izuku exclaimed, quickly placing his umbrella into the box.
Stepping into the noisy classroom, Ayano took her seat at the back, staring up front as Aizawa stepped inside.
It's good not to see him in bandages. Ayano thought to herself.
"Morning." He greeted, walking up to the podium at the front of the classroom.
"Good Morning!" The class responded.
"Ribbit, Mr. Aizawa, your bandages are gone. I'm glad." Tsuyu noticed.
"The old lady went overboard with her treatment." He stated blandly, then quickly continued, "More importantly, we're aging a special hero informatics class today."
The room suddenly got tense and Ayano could only guess at the thoughts going on in her classmates heads. Quizzes, tests-
"Code names. You'll be coming up with hero names." Aizawa finished, and the feeling of the classroom suddenly lifted, Ayano had to admit, she too was feeling slightly excited.
"We're gonna do something exciting!" The class cheered, causing Aizawa to activate his quirk so he could continue talking.
"This is related to the pro hero draft picks I mentioned the other day. The drafts begin in earnest in the second and third years, after students have gained experience and can become immediate assets to the pros. In other words, for them to extend offers to first years like you shows that they are interested in your future potential. These offers are often cancelled if that interest dies down by graduation." Aizawa explained.
"So we'll have to prove ourselves once we get picked, huh?" Hagakure said.
"Yes. And here are the totals for those with offers." Looking at the board and clicking a small button, line with names and numbers appeared. It seemed that Todoroki and Bakugo were the two students with the most offers, both of them getting around thousands of them. Ayano looked down the line, seeing that she was just under Iida, with 347 offers for herself.
Wow... I didn't expect to get that many. She thought to herself.
"In other years, it's been more spread out, but all eyes were on these two this year." Aizawa stated.
"Gah, there's such a big difference!" Kaminari complained.
"Those pros don't know a good thing when they see one!" Aoyama fumed.
"Todoroki's first, and Bakugo's second...?" Jiro asked in amazement.
"It's the opposite of their placement in the sports festival." Kirishima stated.
"Probably because of Bakuspolde's personality." Ayano stated, "The poor pros are scared of him!"
"What'd you call me, Extra?" Bakugo shouted.
"What? It's a new nickname I thought of. Really describes you, doesn't it?" Ayano stated, sticking her tongue out at the angry teen.
"Keeping these results in mind, whether or not anyone asker for you, you will all be participating in internships with pros."
"Internships, huh? Sounds interesting."
"At the USJ, you already got to experience combat with real villains, but it will still be meaningful training for you to see pros at work firsthand."
"So that explains the hero names!" Sato exclaimed.
"Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!" Uraraka shouted with excitement.
"Well, those hero names are still temporary, but if you're not serious about it..."
"You'll have hell to pay later!" A new person exclaimed, and Ayano looked towards the door to see Midnight walking into the classroom, the boys all seemed to go crazy- well, Mineta, Sero, and Kaminari were really the only ones blushing like idiots.
"Because a lot of hero names used by students become recognized by society, and they end up becoming professional hero names!"
"Midnight!" The class shouted.
"Well, that's how it is. So Midnight will be making sure your names are okay." He bent over and grabbed something from under the podium, not a big surprise when Ayano caught a glimpse of his yellow sleeping bag. "I can't do stuff like that." He paused for a second before continuing. "With that being said, you get a more concrete image of what you want to be like in the future, and you get closer to it. This is what it means when they say 'Names and nature do often agree.'" Like "All Might" for example."
Ayano looked at him, then down at the whiteboard she had just gotten passed back to her. Holding her marker in hand, she thought of a good hero name. She didn't want to go with Ice Princess, she didn't want to be known as that once she became and adult, even though it might hurt her mothers feelings. Ice Queen an Ice King were good names, but Ice Princess was a bit too childish for her.
Ayano was still thinking when Midnight started to speak from the from the the room.
"Okay, let's start presenting names starting with those who are ready." She exclaimed.
I assumed we would be. Ayano thought with a sigh. She looked down at her blank board, still unable to come up with a good hero name for herself.
Looking up, Ayano saw Ayoama step up to the front of the room, placing his board and turning it for the class to see. Once reading it, Ayano had a hard time keeping a straight face.
"Shining Hero: 'I can not stop twinkling'! Which means, you can't stop my sparkles."
"I wish we could." Ayano muttered to herself
"It'll be easier to use if you take out the I and shorten the 'can not' to 'can't" Midnight suggested, scribbling some things on Aoyama's board.
"You're right, mademoiselle."
"Then I'll go next!" Ashido shouted, hopping up to the front and showing the class her board. "Hero name, Alien Queen"!"
"Are you trying for the thing with acidic blood?" Midnight asked, a terrified look on her face. "I wouldn't if I were you."
"Dang it." Mina muttered, walking back to her seat.
"Ribbit!" Tsuyu said, raising her hand into the air. "Can I go next then?"
"Go ahead, Tsu!" Midnight exclaimed.
When she got up the the front, she waited to turn her board around, "I've had this in mind ever since I was in elementary school." She started, then turned the bored around to show the class. "Rainy Season Hero: Froppy."
That's adorable. Ayano thought to herself.
"That's so cute! It seems friendly. I like it!" Midnight exclaimed. "It's a great example of a name everyone will love!"
Soon the class was cheering, and Ayano couldn't help but join in.
Soon more people were going up to state their names, Kirishima went with Red Riot, after his idol Crimson Riot, Jiro went with Earphone Jack, Shoji decided on Tentacole, Sero came up with Cellophane, Ojiro chose Tailman, Sato did Sugarman, Ashido went up for a second time with Pinky- luckily that one was approved, Kaminari- Chargebolt, Hagakura- Invisible girl, Momo- Creati. Both Todoroki went with his own name, Tokoyami- Tsukuyomi, Mineta- Grape Juice, Koda- Anima.
"King Explosion Murder." Bakugo said darkly from the front of the room.
Ayano covered her mouth as she struggled not to laugh. Midnight ended up sending him back to choose another name, after some yelling from Bakugo.
Right after him, Uraraka timidly went up, she had decided on Uravity. With Midnights approval, Uraraka sat back down at her desk, and Ayano kept on staring at her board. Still not having an idea for a name.
"Choosing hero names is going more smoothly than I thought it would! All that's left is Bakugo, who needs to rethink his, Iida, and Hyida. And Midoriya, right?"
Suddenly, a name struck Ayano, and she quickly wrote it on her board. Standing up, she held it close to her and walked up to the front.
"Ah! Hyida, go ahead!"
Turning her board around, she gave the class a small smile. "The Frozen Hero: Frostbite." She said.
"Oh! Cold but Beautiful! Perfect!"
Ayano smiled at Midnight's approval, and she sat back down, watching the rest of the names be choosen.
Bakugo kept on suggesting terrible names, while Iida chose his name and Izuku picked Deku, despite it being a mocking nickname from Bakugo.
I like my name. Frostbite. Has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

Hey everyone, sorry for publishing this chapter a bit later than usual! I just finished writing it, actually. I haven't had much time to write since the start of the summer, since I've been working on and off a lot and playing Wizard101 (If you see anyone by the name of Molly SeaBlossom, it might be me BTW)
Anyways, I'll try to write more, but in the meantime, I hope you enjoyed this chapter!
