In Summer
"Hang on. We like to go fast," Kristoff warned, the three of squeezed in his sleigh.
"We like fast." Anna kicked her feet up and put them on the dash, her hands behind her head.
Kristoff reached over and pulled her legs off. "Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa! Get your feet down. This is fresh lacquer. Seriously, were you raised in a barn?" He spat on the dash, ricocheting and hitting Anna in the face.
Disgusted, she wiped it off with her mitten. "Ugh! No, I was raised in a castle."
Unbothered, Kristoff polished the sled to his satisfaction. "Hm. So, tell me, what made the king go all ice-crazy?"
Y/n glanced at Anna sideways and snarked, "Hm. That's a good question. Wanna answer that, Anna?"
"Ugh...fine, I guess it was my fault. I got engaged and he freaked out because I'd only just met him, you know, that day. And he said he wouldn't bless the marriage -"
But Kristoff, eyes growing in thought, cut her off. "Wait. You got engaged to someone you just met that day?"
"Yeah. Anyway, I got mad and so he got mad. And then he tried to walk away and I grabbed his glove -"
"Hang on," he said again, putting his hand in front of her. "You mean to tell me you got engaged to someone you just met that day?!"
Y/n crossed her arms, smirking in amusement at how bewildered the ice harvester was.
"Yes. Pay attention," Anna firmly snapped, annoyed. "But the thing is, he wore gloves all the time. At least that's what Y/n told me. I don't know, I never really saw him. So I just thought, 'Maybe he has a thing about dirt.' "
"Didn't your parents ever warn you about strangers?!" Kristoff cried, still stuck on the princess' engagement.
Scooting closer to Y/n, she answered, "Yeeees, they did. But Hans is not a stranger."
"No, of course not. You met once upon a dream," her friend replied, heaving a sigh.
"Oh yeah? What's his last name?" Kristoff asked.
"Of-the-Southern-Isles," Anna replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"That's definitely wrong," Y/n added in.
"Favorite food?"
"Sandwiches."
"Not specific enough."
"Best friend's name?"
"Probably John."
"He has friends?"
"Foot size?"
"Foot size doesn't matter."
"I'm uncomfortable."
"What if you don't like the way he eats?" Kristoff continued. "What if you don't like the way he picks his nose?"
"Picks his nose?" Anna asked, disgusted.
"And eats it?"
"..........dude, what the hell?" Y/n asked. "Besides, he's a prince."
Kristoff looked back ahead in silence for a minute. "All men do it."
"Ew!"
"Double ew."
"Look, it doesn't matter. It's true love!" Anna declared.
"Doesn't sound like true love."
"Your Highness, I'm inclined to agree with him," Y/n replied. "I mean, think about it. What do you really know about Hans besides he's a prince?"
"That he has twelve older brothers," she answered confidently.
"Is that all?"
"Ugh, what are you? Some kind of a love expert?"
"I...no, of course not." She looked to the side, watching the trees rush past.
"Actually," Kristoff began again. "I have friends who are."
"You have friends who are love experts," Anna confirmed, getting a smirk. "I'm not buying it."
"Stop talking," he said suddenly.
"No no no no. No, no, I'd like to meet these -"
He held up his mitten to her lips. "No, I mean it."
After a minute, Y/n tried to ask what was going on, only for a, "Shhh!" He looked behind him, his eyes growing. Whipping back around, he shouted, "Sven, go. Go!"
Y/n looked back, gasping when she saw some kind of animals chasing them from behind. "What are those?!"
"Wolves," Kristoff replied quickly, trying not to panic as he grabbed his rope.
"Wolves?!"
"What do we do?!" Anna asked desperately.
"I've got this. You girls just - don't fall off."
"But I wanna help," Anna insisted.
Y/n grabbed her arm and pulled her away from Kristoff. "Anna, no."
"Agreed," Kristoff responded with a torch in his hand.
"Why not?" she pouted.
"Because I don't trust your judgement."
"Excuse me?"
"Who marries a man she just met?!" He kicked away a wolf that jumped at him.
Anna held up the lute threateningly, exclaiming, "It's true love!"
"Anna, no!" Y/n cried, reaching out to stop her.
"Whoa!" Kristoff ducked, just in time for her to smack back the wolves behind him.
But he tumbled off, just barely holding on. The torch fell into Anna's hand and Kristoff was forced to drag in the snow, gripping to the rope as tightly as his gloves would allow him to.
"Kristoffer!" she cried.
At the same time, Y/n yelled out for him, "Chrysanthemum!"
"It's Kristoff!" he responded, crying out as he kicked the wolves away.
Anna used the torch to light the blanket in the back on fire and throw it at the wolves. "Duck!"
"AHHHHHH -"
She chucked it, hitting two back, while the rest ran for Kristoff's legs, baking ravenously.
"You almost set me on fire!" he shouted as he used the opportunity to climb back in.
"But she didn't," Y/n reminded, pulling him up.
Anna gasped when she saw a cliff in front of them. "Get ready to jump, Sven!"
"You don't tell him what to do." Kristoff picked her up and threw her onto Sven.
"Hey! Whoa!" she cried, landing.
"I do!" He cut the rope off and grabbed Y/n.
"Whoa, whoa, what, we're not doing dinner first?" she asked, but held on anyway.
"Jump, Sven!"
He did, Anna yelling out as she landed to safety. The sled followed and Kristoff jumped off, Y/n practically choking him as she held onto his neck for dear life. "WE'RE GONNA DIE WE'RE GONNA DIE OH GOD ELSWORTH I LOVE YOU!"
Kristoff pushed her to his back and held his arms out for the cliff, just grabbing on. The wolves screeched to a halt on the other side, snarling still.
Kristoff looked back to make sure Y/n was okay, then down where his sled had crashed and proceeded to explode in a fire.
"Mmm...but I just payed it off..." he whined. But his lament was soon cut short as he began to slip. "Uh-oh. No no no..." He tried to find his grip again, Y/n having slid down to his legs.
"SAY YOUR PRAYERS, LADS!" she cried, her eyes shut and squeezing onto his thighs.
As Kristoff tried to pull them both up, Anna had thrown a rope tied to a spear. "Grab on!"
He did and began to move up, both of them dragging in the snow.
"Pull, Sven, pull!" Anna cried, both of them straining to pull both up.
Y/n raised her head above the snow enough to ask, "Still don't want her to tell you what to do?"
".......shut up." But it sounded more like, "Smurm murp" as he got a mouthful of snow.
He yanked both of them up, then flipped over, panting. Anna came over and looked over the cliff. "Whoa..." She helped Y/n up, then gave Kristoff a guilty look. "I'll replace your sled...and everything in it...and I understand if...you don't want to help us anymore...and...Y/n," She looked up at her now. "You - you don't have to go with me anymore, if you don't want to...I totally get that..."
Sven sniffed at him and Y/n offered her hand while Andar walked off, trying to figure out which direction he had to go in.
"Of course I don't want to help her anymore," he said to Sven, accepting the girl's hand. He sat, continuing, "In fact, this whole thing has ruined me from helping anyone ever again."
"She'll die on her own," he said in Sven's voice.
"Well, I'm not gonna let that happen," Y/n declared. "It's my job to look after her."
"I, on the other hand, can live with that. You have fun getting killed by Gingey over there."
"But you won't get your new sled if she's dead."
"Wow, really got your priorities straight there, don't you, pal?"
He glanced up at her without any care. ".....you know, I'm already starting to not like you."
Sven began to pant, hoping that Kristoff had changed his mind.
Indeed, sighing, he called to Anna, who had wandered off a few feet away, "Hold up! We're coming."
"You are?!" she asked excitedly. Clearing her throat, she said more calmly, "I mean...sure. I'll letcha tag along. So, Y/n! What was that about loving Elsworth?"
This was going to be a long trip.
-
Ice crystals hung from the trees as the three made their way across the fjord. They looked up at them in sonder, Sven jumping around with crystals on his antlers.
"I never knew winter could be so beautiful..." Anna breathed.
Y/n nodded, amazed that Elsworth could do all that with just his hands.
"Yeah, it really is beautiful, isn't it? But it's so white."
They stopped at the voice, looking stand confusedly. They pushed through ahead, trying to find the source of the voice.
"You know, how about a color? I'm thinking like maybe some crimson, chartreuse...oh, how about yellow? ...no, not yellow. Yellow and snow? Brrrrrr! No-go."
When they heard it laugh, they found a short snowman next to them, smiling. "Am I right?"
Screaming, Anna kicked it, his head flying right into Kristoff's arms. "Hi!" he greeted excitedly.
"You're creepy." He tossed the head to Anna.
"I don't want it!" she cried, throwing it to Y/n.
"Oh, hell naw. Back at you, Krissy!" She tossed it to him.
All this time, the body was desperately trying to follow for its head back. "Please don't drop me."
"Don't!"
"Come on, it's just a head!"
"Yeah, a HEAD!"
"Alright, we got off to a bad start," he tried again.
"Ew ew - the body!"
Still holding onto the head, Y/n threw it as hard as she could at the body, toppling it over. He got back up, everything for him upside-down. "Wait, what am I looking at right now? Why are you hanging off the Earth like a bat?"
"Alright, wait one second." Anna went over and took his head, which was what was actually upside-down, and put it back on right.
"Oh! Thank you!"
"You're welcome."
"Now I'm perfect!" he exclaimed excitedly.
"Well..." Anna looked at the middle of his face, noticing something was missing. "Almost."
Out of the carrot bag next to her, she took one out, then went back to Olaf, who was saying to Kristoff and Y/n, "It was like my whole life got upside-down."
Anna took the carrot and shoved it into the middle of his face, the carrot going straight through his face, only the very tip of the. "Oh!"
She pulled back, apologizing. "Oh! Too hard. I'm sorry."
"Head rush!"
"Are you okay?"
"Are you kidding me? I..." He broke into a grin. "...am wonderful! I always wanted a nose." He turned, touching it lightly. "It's like a little baby unicorn..."
Anna put her hand on the big part of the carrot and pushed it through. The snowman's eyes bugged out as he cried, "What? Hey! Whoa!" Seeing the full carrot now, he announced, "Oh, I love it even more." He sighed, waddling all the way around to Anna. "Alright, let's start this thing over. Hi, everyone. I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!" He held his arms out.
Anna's smile fell into a look of remembrance. "Olaf?"
He nodded, still grinning.
"That's right!" she remembered, her smile back. "Olaf!"
His arms still out, he nodded and asked, "And you are...?"
She shook off the feeling of deja vu. "Oh, um, I'm Anna."
"And I'm Y/n," the other girl said, crouching down next to him.
"Oh, okay. And who's the funky-looking donkey?" he asked, pointing around Y/n, who moved over.
"That's Sven," Anna replied.
"Uh-huh. And who's the reindeer?"
"...Sven?" Y/n questioned, her head tilted to the side.
"Oh, they're - oh, okay. Makes things easier for me."
The real Sven leaned over while he was turned back to Anna, reaching for the carrot. Obliviously, he turned back and hugged his head. "Aww, look at him trying to kiss my nose! I like you, too!"
"Olaf, did Elsworth build you?" Anna asked, trying to get his attention back to her.
He let go of Sven and looked back at her. "Yeah. Why?"
"He did?" Y/n asked as Kristoff took one of Olaf's arms off of him to study it. "How is he? Is he alright?"
"Yeah. Why?"
"Can you take us to him?" Anna asked instead.
"Fascinating..." Kristoff mumbled, flexing it.
"Yeah. Why?"
"Can you really? We can see him?" Y/n cut back in excitedly.
"Yeah. Why?"
"How does this work?" The arm reared back and slapped him. "Ow!"
Olaf snapped around and grabbed his arm, putting it back into place. "Stop it, Sven! Trying to focus here." Once it was back in, he turned back as if nothing had happened. "Yeah. Why?"
"I'll tell you why," Kristoff finally said, bending over slightly. "We need Elsworth to bring back summer."
"Summer?" he asked, to which Y/n nodded to. "Oh, I don't know why, but I've always loved the idea of summer and sun and all things hot..." he gushed.
"Really?" Kristoff questioned curiously, surprised at how innocent the snowman was. "I'm guessing you don't have much experience with heat."
"Nope!" Olaf responded, blissfully unaware. "But sometimes, I like to close my eyes and imagine what it'll be like when summer does come..." He closed his eyes and sighed.
[In case you missed it, I don't write out fantasy sequences. It's too much of a challenge.]
Olaf:
Bees will buzz
Kids will blow dandelion fuzz
And I'll be doing whatever snow does in summer...
A drink in my hand
My snow up against the burning sand
Probably getting gorgeously tanned in summer ~
I'll finally see a summer breeze blow away a winter storm
And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm...
And I can't wait to see
What my buddies all think of me
Just imagine how much cooler I'll be in summer!
Ba-da a-doo
A-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-boo
The hot and the cold are both so intense
Put 'em together, it just makes sense!
Ra-ta-ta-ta-ta
A-da-da da-da-da-doo-oo
Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle,
But put me in summer and I'll be a...
"Puddle?" Y/n chimed in.
Everyone blankly stared at her, including Olaf, but it was more out of confusion. Instead, he shook his head and cried out, "Happy snowman!"
Olaf:
When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream
Relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam
He reached up at the sky in wonder.
Olaf:
Oh, the sky...will be blue
He looked back at the others fondly.
Olaf:
And you guys will be there, too...
When I finally do what frozen things do in summer!
"I'm gonna tell him," Kristoff said, his arms crossed.
Anna hit him in the chest, scolding, "Don't you dare."
Olaf:
In summer!
"So, come on! Elsworth's this way. Let's go bring back summer!" He ran off, the girls just behind him.
"We're coming!"
But Kristoff hung back, genuinely concerned. "Somebody's gotta tell him..."
