Chapter 47
I slammed the door to the dorm behind me, my eyes going wide as I took in Khloe. She stood by the door with her bag packed, one foot in her peach colored converse, the other halfway in.
No words were said as we just stood, staring at each other. Her eyes were dull, no emotion present.
"Where are you going?", I asked, still not moving.
She just stared at me, her eyes not once leaving mine. "I'm sorry, Niall, but I am not one of those girls. I don't just do that. I like meaning." She whispered the last part.
"Khloe...," I wanted this, right? So then why am I feeling like such a dick? "Can we talk about this?"
"I... I'm sorry, Niall, but I have to go." She finished putting on her shoe. "Eleanor's waiting." With that, she pushed past me, bumping my shoulder on the way.
I let out a huff, running my hands through my hair and down my face as the door shut.
I glanced up to see Liam exiting his room with his phone in hand. "Hey where's Khlo? I was gonna see if she-"
"She's gone."
"-wanted to- wait, what? She was just here."
I shrugged, sinking into the chair at the table. "She just left."
"No, she doesn't just leave. She's not even talking to her friends, so where'd she go?" Liam crossed his arms.
"I..well, she did."
"Niall, what the fuck did you say this time?" I held my hands up, not saying anything. He came around the back and smacked me in the back of the head. I guess I deserved that.
"Ouch, fucker!" I stood up, and made my way to the door. "Going for a walk. Be back in a bit."
"Why you're at it, go apologize to Khlo for whatever reason, and make sure you sign up for some 'how to respect women' classes!" I rolled my eyes, slamming the door behind me.
Respect women classes? Do they actually have those? Because if so, I need to sign Luke up for some.
I made my way down the stairs and out into the dark of the student parking lot. There were no stars out. Instead, it was rather cloudy; the moon was even fogged over.
I began down the sidewalk, watching as cars passed by in the city lights that shown over the tops of a few trees. There were a few street lamps, illuminating the pavement in front of me.
I noticed two girls messing around on the other side of the street. I instantly recognized the tall brunette, which only means that the smaller one was my Khloe.
I watched them carefully, not to be creepy, but to make sure that they'd get home safe seeming how they weren't even paying attention to anything around them.
Eleanor must have said something that made Khloe go into hysterics. She was walking on the edge of the road, talking to Eleanor, who was on the sidewalk, not even noticing the headlights that were coming towards them at a faster pace than I even realized.
Shit.
Before I knew it, my feet were carrying me at a fast pace towards the other side of the road. "Khloe!" Her head snapped up to see the large semi and she seemed to freeze before she was shoved to the ground. The headlights flew past us, sending a rush of air towards our bodies that were now collided on the ground. "You have got to watch where you're going." I yelled, staring down at her. That truck would have completely wiped her out.
Her eyes were the size of golfballs, her breathing heavy.
"Khloe! Oh my God, I'm so sorry!" Eleanor's voice was heard.
I glared up at her before pulling myself away from Khloe and standing up. "Holy. Shit." Khloe exhaled, looking up to me. "Were you following me?"
"I.. I was? But not the whole way. I just wanted to make sure that you got home safe because you weren't paying attention." I felt my blood begin to boil again. "And thankfully I was because that semi would have completely took you out!"
"I- I'm sorry." she mumbled, looking over to Eleanor. I shook my head and started to walk in front of them. "Where are you going?"
"Taking you home safely, so are you coming or what?"
"Niall, I- yeah." she huffed, jogging to catch up with me.
We finally made it to her dorm, safely, may I add. Eleanor quickly went to her room, while I followed Khloe to hers.
"I'm safe so, thanks. You don't want me, and I don't want to be friends like that, so you can just leave me be now." She mumbled.
I leant in and kissed her lips. She was taken back for a second, but was quick to recover and kiss back. Our lips moved in sync, our breathing growing heavy.
I hate the effect she has on me. I hate how I can't just get rid of her like all of the others. She completely has me wrapped around her damn finger and I hate that. I cannot stand this feeling.
I just don't want her to get hurt. I don't want to be that one to hurt her because I can't give her what she wants.
I pulled away, staring down at her. Her eyes blinked open and she stared back at me.
"I'm confused." she whispered.
"That's perfectly fine." I lied. I opened her door for her and helped her inside. The lights were off meaning that Gemma was probably gone or fell asleep early. "You did good at practice today. I'll see you later." I stated, walking out and shutting the door behind me.
I quickly made my way back home where I took a quick shower and crawled into bed. It smelled like her, the sweet smell of tropical flowers and coconut. I hatted it, but nuzzled into the covers anyways. I was frustrated. I was confused too. I've never had a girl do this to me.
I went down on her, I let her sleep in my bed, I walked her home. I was breaking so many of my own rules. Why? What did Khloe Sparks have one me? Why was she so different?
*
I woke up and slipped on a some clothes before packing my bag and quickly brushing my teeth.
Harry had texted me, telling me to meet him at the small café on the way to class.
I quickly made my way there, ordering myself a small coffee before sitting down. I smiled at the girl who seemed to fawn over me as she handed me the drink.
I took a sip, sitting next to Harry who had a worried look on his face. "Jonah's back." Were the first words out of his mouth, making me just about spit my drink all over him.
I cleared my throat. Clearly I heard that wrong. "W-what?"
"He was talking to Dr. Housely (the administrator of the college) this morning." Harry sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose.
"Khloe." Her name left my mouth in a short breath.
"Does she know of him? Have you told her?"
"I have no clue if she knows him. If she does, she's going to be really pissed. If not, I don't know..." I trailed off.
Okay, this is getting worse than I thought. He got kicked off campus, as well. Surely his dad wouldn't have payed to get him back too, right? Especially not with Khloe being here.. which could really only mean two things. Fuck.
"Niall, have you told her?" Harry was starting to panic, as was I.
"No. I was trying to hold off for as long as I could." I stated, looking to my cup. This isn't as appetizing as it was before.
"Niall, you need to get her out of here. Take her somewhere for a week. That should get me enough time to get rid of him."
"Harry! Where the fuck do I take her?" I noticed a few people glance over at us. Fuck.
"I don't know, take her somewhere out of here. Take her to fucking Ireland for all I care. I just need a week."
"Harry, we're kind of in a disagreement at the moment." I sighed. Why do things have to be so complicated?
"Fucking hell, Niall. I don't care what you do, just get her off the damn campus." With that, he got up and exited the small brick building.
How the hell am I supposed to get a stubborn ass girl off campus when she won't even skip a damn class?
I sighed and followed after Harry, chucking my half drunken coffee in the garbage. I quickly made my way back to the dorms. So much for class.
I entered the building, storming up the stairs and into my dorm room. Liam was already gone so I guess it makes things a little easier.
I went to my closet, pulling out one of my suitcases. I threw in a few shirts and pants, making sure to grab my passport from my top shelf, just in case. If Khloe had one, we were definitely going to Ireland. If not, we'll probably just head to New York or something. Get as far away as possible.
I placed my toiletries into my suitcase as well, laying them on my few sweatshirts.
I was in a panic. I have to get to Khloe before he does.
The hardest part won't be getting Khloe to leave, but getting her to leave with me.
Khloe's POV*
"Louis! Stop.." I laughed, slapping his hands away from my head as he tried to play with my hair.
We haven't been friends for long, but I was glad to have someone like Louis in my class. He distracts my mind from thinking of Niall, and how I am so confused on what is happening. I don't know if we are friends or not, or what.
I don't want to be that kind of friend. Instead, I would really like to get closer with him, figure him out more, but he just won't allow it. I thought I had a wall, but hell, mines like soft cotton compared to his.
I still have my questions about him and I just want to figure them out. I thought becoming friends would help me, but it really hasn't in any way.
"Come on, Khlo. You know you like it." Louis wiggled his eyebrows, pulling more hair into my face.
"Oh, yes." I looked to him, my hair blocking my vision. "Freaking beautiful." I laughed.
"Okay, homework is to begin on the first ten chapters of Pride and the Prejudice. We will pick that back up in class on Thursday. You are dismissed."
I jumped out of my seat, fixing my hair from Louis' styling.
"A little eager, are we?", Ashley laughed, glaring at me as she exited.
"A little eager are we?" I mocked in a high pitched voice causing Louis to chuckle. "I fucking hate her. She's in my next class, too, and all she does is hang over Niall and make snooty remarks."
"You're not the only one, babe. I don't even know how Niall puts up with her shit." Louis made a disgusted face, leading the way through the door.
"Right!" I smiled, laughing a bit. I noticed a tousle of blonde hair through the massive crowd of people, causing me to bite my lip. "On to next class with the little confusing asshole himself." I muttered causing Louis to snort.
"Hey, Niall." Louis smiled.
"Hey, Lou. Khloe, come with me." He stared to tug my arm.
"Wait, what? Niall, stop!" I pulled my arm away from him.
"Khloe, let's go."
"No, Niall. Not until you tell me why." I crossed my arms. What is with him?
"Ugh, you're so stubborn. We have to go. Louis, have you talked to Harry?" Uh? Louis shook his head. "Go call him, now.", He stated sternly, looking to me. "Will you please come with me?"
I sighed, looking between him and Louis. "Why?"
"We need to talk, please?" I stared at the guy who was practically begging.
I sighed again, slowly nodding. I guess by talking, I could finally get some answers and ease the confusion. "Fine, but where are we going?"
"Back to your dorm. Or mine, either," Wait we're skipping class? I don't know bout this...
"Niall, I-"
"Khloe, you'll be fine, trust me."
"Niall, no!"
"Khloe!"
I let out a puff of air and hesitantly followed him.
The walk back to my dorm was spent pretty much in silence, neither of us knowing what to say.
Once we got into my dorm, I turned to look at him. "Okay, speak." His lips were suddenly on mine, surprising me. I pulled back, looking to him with a taken back expression. "What the hell was that?"
"I..." I stared at him, his eyes wide as he stared back. He cleared his throat. "Sorry, um, talking?"
I nodded my head and we went to go sit on my bed. I tripped on the way there, resulting in chuckles from Niall.
"You okay there, klutz?"
"Shut up." I muttered, suppressing a smile.
I moved up on the bed, folding my legs as I lent my back against the wall.
"Khloe, there's, um, there's a lot you don't know about me, and there's a lot I don't know about you." he took a deep breath, also leaning against the wall.
"Then tell me something about you that I don't know. Anything." Hopefully this would help me understand him a little.
"I, uh.. I was twelve when I first ran away from my house. I lived with a guy who dealt with drugs, for five weeks before my dad even realized."
I furrowed my eyebrows, nodding a little. "Um, I don't have real exciting stories like that, I'm more simple." I chuckled and he did too. "I was fourteen when I had my first kiss. When was yours?"
"I was eleven, I think. She was my neighbor. What's the story about you getting drugged?"
I bit my lip, looking to him. "I was sixteen and I was at my friends house. We were playing truth or dare, kids game, I know-" I smiled. "-But I was dared to take a drink and I had never before so I was already scared as it was. They poured vodka and some other clear liquid into a glass then a guy had added a small, white pill. I don't remember much, but I remember watching it fizz and all the millions of small bubbles that would surface. I drank it and somehow I ended up outside and I was lost in a circle of trees, when in reality, there were only three. They were spinning and people were yelling for me to go back inside. Everything went dark and I felt like I couldn't breath." I sighed, glancing down as I felt Niall place his hand on my thigh. "I woke up in the hospital the next morning and let's just say that things didn't go well with my parents. We fought and they didn't speak to me or each other for a few months. That's actually why I'm here on a scholarship for volleyball. I wanted there attention again, so I started playing sports and volleyball just came naturally for me."
Niall let out a puff of air like that was a lot to take in, which it was in all honesty. "I'm assuming that got their attention again?"
"Kinda. They didn't really come to any games, but once I started track in the spring, and started winning metals, they started coming around. It just took them a while. I mean, it had a hard hit on my dad and his career as a famous author and everything. But, we learned to just get over the obstacle. It took some time, but they wanted me to learn, and I clearly have. I haven't touched a drink since. I don't trust people with stuff like that."
"Yeah, I understand. I was fourteen when I first tried marijuana, so I understand. I had eaten a 'special brownie' and it made me all nervous and almost like I was going into a panic attack. My second time I had gotten over it, but the first times are always scary."
"Yeah, well, there probably won't ever be a second time for me." I chuckled nervously.
"Do you have any siblings?", I was thankful when he changed topics.
Ha! I wish..
"Nope, I'm a loner." I laughed and he did too. "What are Annie and Greg like?" I asked, kind of hesitant to how he would react.
"Uh, Annie got a lot of my mom's traits. She's very friendly, always wanting the best for people. She's stubborn, honest, and she's just... she's very much like you." he whispered, looking everywhere but to me.
She's like me? I'm like that? I felt butterflies grow in my stomach from the thought.
"And Greg. Greg is very reserved. He keeps to himself for the most part. He smiles a lot and is very supportive of Annie and I. He has a wife, Denise, actually. And a kid, Theo. He's only a few months old." Niall seemed to have smiled at the thought of them.
"I want to meet them." I found myself blurting. Niall looked over to me, seeming just as surprised as I was. "Your family, I mean." The blush made its way to my cheeks, turning them hot.
"Uh- um, you...you do?" He stuttered out.
"Mhmm."
I watched and waited patiently as I could see the gears turning inside his head.
"Do you have a passport?" He asked, a smile growing on his face as he squeezed my thigh.
"I- yes, I do. Are you seriously going to take me?" I smiled, suddenly feeling overwhelmed with joy. He trusted me enough to go across sea and meet part of his family.
"Yeah. We leave today at two. Be ready." He got up and went to my closet. I glanced to my phone clock noticing that it was going on eleven.
"Are you being serious!?"
"Yes!" he chuckled, pulling out a few shirts.
Ireland. I'm going to Ireland. Holy shit, I'm going to Ireland!
I smiled and stood up, walking to my closet to help. I pulled out my suitcase, starting to fold clothes. "How long are we staying there for?"
"A week?"
"Seriously!? Wait, but what about class?" I felt my smile instantly drop. I can't go. I have class and practice. So does Niall. This won't work.
"Don't worry about it, I can take care of it."
"But practice. Niall, if I don't go I'll get kicked team and my parents are going to shit!"
"Khloe, chill. I said I will take care of it. I have my ways." He gave me a reassuring smile. "C'mon. You don't want to miss out on a chance to go to Ireland, do you?"
"I guess not, but if I get in trouble, it's all on you. I hope you know that." I smirked as I began packing again. I better not lose this fucking scholarship all over a damn boy. My parents will fucking kill me.
"Don't worry, baby. I'll have you taken care of." He called my baby. Holy fucking shit the butterflies are unreal. I smiled up at him and he smiled down.
I think, just maybe, this could work out. I just have to prove to him that it can. We can make something work. I can see it in his eyes that he cares about me in the same eyes as I do him. He might just not be admitting it to himself.
At least, that's what I hope.
Confusing, I know. You'll start to understand soon. ;)
love you! xx
