Chapter 2 - Blindsided
A building, grey as the storm clouds that often frequent, dwarfs the surrounding mounds of the dead, their faces black as coal, adorned with gentle red lights, giving the area an eerie, blood-moon-like colouration, dread pouring into the spines of Workers who enter. The building in the centre, crumbling slowly as it's battered by the elements, hosts many stains of night black, leaking out the windows and seeping through the cracks. A shadow descends over the landscape, a thud sounding gently as a figure lands on the building side, looking behind them to see their comrade, waking slowly, blades out. Their tail, gently swirling the air, searching for audio as it's receiver listens for all. They meet with the first figure, smiling lightly while looking in their genera direction. "Well, Infra, that was a good hunt was it not?" Their voice, rash but clearly caring, fills the environment. The other drone, Infra, looks at them, smiling in a way that can only be described as guilty yet endearing. "It was, Asdic, it was." his voice soft and innocent, similar to that of a child. Heaving the new bodies into the building, the pair struggling to get the haul through the door until it got through, with a crunch, signifying that some of their catch has broken, to neither's sadness.
A few hours later
"Infra," Asdic said, head leaning on the other's shoulder, "Would you like to go for a walk?" they continued, innocently smiling. Infra's confusion was obvious to anybody who could see, so most definitely not Asdic. "Why are you suggesting this?" his voice rang gently, intrigued at why the blind drone next to him would ask this. "It'd be nice! Just me and you, out in the fresh air!" said blind drone responded, ever so chipper. "You won't relent until I agree, won't you?" "Correct!" A sigh gently exited from Infra, before he stood up, Asdic following suit. "Alright, but not for too long." Infra's voice clearly showed their current exhaustion, mainly from moving their haul. He agreed, still, as a Asdic made him promise a favour in return for helping Infra with triangulating other squad locations, notably the spire that held a trio, most dangerous in the area, due to their unique skill sets. The door opened, the pair gently walking out. Infra took to the air, flying just barely off the snowy ground, allowing Asdic to hear whatever necessary. The two travelled for a short while, seeing the buildings and grabbing a few souvenirs. That was until a crunch sounded from beneath Asdic's foot, making them freeze. Infra's head snapped to what they stepped on, his breath freezing like the environment, a digital bead of sweat sprinting down his visor. "A, we need to go." No questions were asked in response as Infra grabbed the other, flying them home, shaking in fear the entire way. Once landed, Asdic finally asked the question. "W-what was it... I?" Infra, body still shaking as if he had gone without oil, shakily responded. "I-it was a corpse... but one of us... It's limbs had been ripped off, visor split in twain... hair stained with it's own oil... the tail had been snapped and torn, the nanite storage at the end shattered... it barely resembled a Disassembly Drone..." he shuddered, merely remembering it clearly shook him to his core. Asdic, on the other hand, was panicking. "W-what-eve-er did... that... i-is pr-probab-bly sti-ill ar-round... W-we... s-shou-ould lea-ave..." Infra nodded, looking at the building they call home, before flying off with Asdic in arms. They will return here, just not now. However, as they took off, the feeing of being watched couldn't be shaken.
