Round 2 - Scene 3

Sorry for the delay with this one, took a lil longer to write as training type scenes are not my strong point :')

Glacierstar sat quietly listening to the rest of her Clan's discussion, waiting until the talking had died down and Rootfrost had counted the vote of each cat. Rootfrost quietly told her the results, the leader nodding as she stood up.

"Rootfrost has informed me that the majority have voted Deershade innocent, therefore she will stay in TundraClan! However, please be careful outside of camp, try not to go anywhere alone for now until our killer is caught..."

Deershade sighed in relief, her brother nodding his thanks as the Clan reluctantly dissipated, and the camp was quiet once more.

------------------------

Rootfrost and Snowpetal were stood in the middle of the open training field, Fernpaw and Lynxpaw watching their mentors expectantly as they explained their training plans for the day. The young tabby tom was glaring at his mentor.

"Do we really have to train in the rain? My pelt is soaked!" Lynxpaw complained, as Rootfrost gave him a sharp glare.

"If you can't train in a little light rain, StarClan forbid you defend our camp during an attack from another Clan in a storm..." Rootfrost muttered, shaking her head at her apprentice.

Snowpetal laughed nervously as she stepped forward, addressing both apprentices.

"Today, you're going to expand on the battle tactics that you've already been learning, and this time you'll be battling each other," she began, "claws sheathed," the she-cat added after spotting Lynxpaw's sudden gleeful expression.

Fernpaw swallowed, struggling to meet Lynxpaw's eyes as she nodded.

Lynxpaw lashed his tail, dropping into position as he stood opposite the she-cat, who wordlessly took her place opposite him. With a nod from their mentors, Lynxpaw leapt forward, attempting to slash down with his paw as Fernpaw dodged beneath him, the smaller she-cat being able to evade him.

"Lynxpaw, remember what I told you about vulnerabilities, aim carefully rather than just rushing forward!" Rootfrost called out, as Lynxpaw growled in annoyance, pushing Fernpaw back as she tried to aim her first hit.

The tabby tom curled his lip before pouncing to the left, quickly changing direction as he leapt once more toward Fernpaw, throwing his weight against her as the she-cat fell to the ground, pinning her to the grass as she struggled.

"Good work, Lynxpaw. Fernpaw, we'll need to work on your defensive movements next," Snowpetal called out, as Rootfrost tried to beckon her own apprentice away.

"I'm not done yet!" Lynxpaw yowled, glaring at Fernpaw as she looked up at him with a fearful and confused expression. "A true warrior fights until the very end, to defend their Clan!" the tom screeched, shoving her again as she began to shift backwards away from him. "Fight back!" he yelled, unsheathing his claws, catching her and slashing down harshly.

Lynxpaw's eyes widened as he stopped, looking down at his now unsheathed claws in realisation.

"Lynxpaw!" Rootfrost growled, dragging him backwards as the tom panted, glancing back at Fernpaw with slight guilt in his eyes as he realised what he had done. Snowpetal groaned, moving over to check her apprentice's injuries. The she-cat sighed.

"These could get infected, I think its best I take her back to the medicine cat. Can you stand, Fernpaw?" Snowpetal asked, as Fernpaw tried, a sharp gasp escaping her while she tried to get to her paws.

"Alright alright... I'll go and get them myself. Rootfrost, would you mind staying with Lynxpaw and Fernpaw? I don't want to leave another cat alone, not after last time with Silverfeather..." Snowpetal murmured, as the deputy nodded.

"Are you sure you'll be alright?" Rootfrost asked.
"I'll be fine, I've been a warrior for a long while now. Trust me, I'll be quick," the she-cat meowed, before disappearing from the field.

------------------------

Snowpetal ducked under twigs and branches as she made the journey back to camp, grimacing at the darkening skies as she felt the rain begin to fall a little heavier.

'Better get to camp quickly before Lynxpaw gets even angrier...'

"What's this, a warrior all alone? And it's poor Snowpetal too, the Clan outcast..."

Snowpetal's eyes widened as she felt her heartbeat quicken, before scrambling to turn around in surprise as claws quickly attacked her from behind, trying to drag her backwards into the twigs and thorny bushes the she-cat had been trying to avoid earlier.

Trying to think quickly, Snowpetal stopped struggling and instead tried to crouch down, the cats claws missing her this time as she managed to turn around from her lower position, squinting as she moved while trying to get a look at her attacker from within the darkness.

The cat dodged her searching gaze, leaping at her again as they at swiped at her eyes, Snowpetal managing to jump to the side in time to avoid both of them being hit but not fast enough to dodge the sharp claws that dragged across her left eye. The she-cat screeched in pain as blood filled her eye, her aim getting worse as she struggled to see with only her right side, feeling the cat trying to pin her to the ground.

The tabby she-cat kicked upwards with her strong legs, her attacker yowling in surprise as the warrior's strength sent them stumbling slightly backwards against a tree behind them, hissing as a sharp branch at the bottom left a wound on their leg.

Snowpetal noticed the cat had stopped attacking her at the sound of a twig snapping behind them both.

The cat growled in frustration, making a quick exit as moments later the medicine cat and Darkwind noticed Snowpetal lying on her back in pain.

"Snowpetal! What happened? Actually, never mind that, let's just get you back to camp for now, I'll come back for the herbs I was looking for later," the medicine cat murmured, helping Snowpetal up as she groaned.

"Fernpaw... She's in the training area, she got hurt as well," Snowpetal meowed as she managed to get to her paws, the medicine cat nodding beside her.

"Alright, Darkwind, could you please help Snowpetal get back to camp? I'll go and help Fernpaw," the medicine cat meowed, as the tom nodded.

------------------------

The medicine cat looked over Fernpaw and Snowpetal a final time before nodding, turning to address the other cats in their den.

"Fernpaw will be fine, Lynxpaw didn't hurt her too badly, but he needs to learn to control his anger," they warned, as Lynxpaw nodded, staring at the floor.

"And, what about Snowpetal? Will her eye heal?!" Shiverhawk demanded, the medicine cat bristling slightly at the she-cat's aggression.

"I don't know yet. I managed to make sure it won't get infected, but whether she'll be able to see properly out of her left eye can only be found out over time, the injury was fairly severe. Snowpetal told me that she was attacked by another cat, which means whatever happened was probably the work of the killer," they meowed.

------------------------

The Clan gathered once more as Glacierstar informed them of a third attack.

"Snowpetal was attacked by the killer, but thankfully our talented medicine cat managed to help her before she could get hurt any further," the leader announced, as sighs of relief were heard among the crowd.

"She still nearly had both her eyes clawed, what if she ended up like Thistlehaze over there? We need to accuse another cat!" Shiverhawk yowled, as Thistlehaze lashed his tail in anger, looking ready to pounce at his sister, his mate glaring at her.

"Enough, Shiverhawk. I understand you're upset, but if you can't learn to respect your Clanmates when you speak then stay quiet," Glacierstar snapped. "However, she is correct, it is clear this killer isn't going to stop until we force them out, so we must accuse another cat today."

A cat within the crowd nodded in agreement, as another tried to subtly hide their wounded leg, staying among the other cats.

"I accuse...!"

------------------------
