Chapter 4- Jack's Memories and The Last Light

Autumn's POV

I was back at my cove and just sat on the branch of a tree. Tooth flew me home and she was in the same mood as me:sadness.

I think I was more sad then anyone because I really like Jack and I knew he didn't mean for this to happen. I know he means well I know it.

The place I live in is called Autumn Cove. It is a huge forest filled with autumn colored trees and any other autumn things you could imagine. It's very quiet compared to he Worksop or the Warren or the Palace. This is the place where animals come right before hibernation. I assist the animals with getting into hibernation and make sure no one is left behind.

The cove wasn't as bright as it was before. The leaves had fallen more and didn't grow back. Most of the trees were just branches and most of the animals were weary and tired.

If I'm affected then my home gets affected.

My eyes snapped up when I saw black sand fly by.

I hopped down from the branch and took out my wand. It was probably useless at this moment but I didn't care.

"Pitch." I called. "I know you're here."

Another nightmare passed by and I shot my magic at it but it missed.

"Don't bother trying, little niece." Pitch's voice echoed. "Your powers are weak and useless against me."

"I will always fight you!" I shouted and Pitch appeared a few feet in front of me. I let out a battle cry and blasted as much magic at him. He blocked it with his black sand and it formed into large spike like sculpture.

The sculpture was black and orange. It reminded me of my past before I became a guardian. Pitch and I worked together at one point until I had enough of his antics and joined the Guardians.

"Autumn! Why fight when you could join me?!" Pitch called and walked around the sculpture to me. "Look what we could do together."

He gestured to the sculpture in front of us and I looked at it.

"When our powers are combined, we would make the most powerful and feared team out there." My uncle explained and he came up to my ear. "Don't you want that?"

I moved back and shook my head. "I don't want to be feared. That's the last thing I want."

"Oh, but I do have something you do want." Pitch said and out of nowhere a cage appeared and Twilight was inside it. I gasped at the form she was in. She looked hurt and skinnier then usual. She also shrunk in size and couldn't stand.

"Twilight!" I cried and reached for her, but Pitch moved away.

He shook his finger at me. "You want the cat, give me the wand."

I looked down at my wand and back up at my beloved cat.

Twilight purred at me and I could tell she was hurt by her voice alone.

I reluctantly handed Pitch my wand. Twilight was released and I immediately caught her in my arms. She was weak and was struggling with her breathing.

"It's okay." I assured her and held her close. "What did you do to her?"

"Just kept her locked up for hours." Pitch shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. "Without food and water."

Twilight growled him and tried to scratch him but ended up whining in pan.

I glared at Pitch and petted Twilight.

"How dare you!" I shouted and Pitch chuckled.

"Just waiting for you to give in." Pitch begin with a devilish smirk. "You got your cat back but I know you're still missing something very important to you."

"Yeah, my wand." I snapped.

"Not Jack Frost?" Pitch questioned and my eyes went wide. My heart sank at the thought of him being harmed in anyway.

"Jack..." I said and sent daggers at Pitch. "What did you do to him?"

"Just did what he wanted me to do." Pitch simply said with his arms folded. "Left him alone."

That could mean many things, but with Pitch it could mean he left Jack alone in a ditch or cage.

"No." I gasped and Twilight sank to the size of a mouse and hid. "I need to find him."

"Here, let me help." Pitch offered and before I could react, I got knocked out by black sand.

——

"Autumn?" A soft voice said and I groaned. "Hey, you awake?"

My body felt a freezing sensation and I was shriving. My eyes flickered open and all I saw above me was a white sky and rock walls were caving me in.

"Autumn?" A male voice whispered and I turned my head to find Jack kneeling next to me. I jumped a little but calmed down and exhaled.

"Jack?" I said and I immediately embraced his cold body. I don't care if he's freezing I'm just glad he's alright. He was stunned by my touch but hugged me close. "I'm glad you're alright."

Jack sighed softly. "I'm glad you're alright. Did Pitch take you here?"

I nodded as we pulled away. "Yes. He took my wand but I got Twilight back."

Jack kept his arms around me. "I'm so sorry I caused this. This all happened because of me."

"Jack, don't blame yourself." I told him, placing my hands in his arms. "You didn't know this would happen."

Jack stared at me with his mesmerizing blue eyes and let out a sigh. "But you got hurt in the process."

"I'm fine." I assured Jack but he knew I was lying.

"What's wrong?" He asked and I let out a sad sigh.

"Okay. My powers are almost completely useless and gone. No children are happy anymore and it's affecting me." I rambled and Jack listened carefully.

"Hey, don't worry. We'll figure a way out of here." Jack assured me, rubbing my back. "I hope."

We both looked up and saw the same thing as before. White nothingness.

I felt a tickle in my nose and let out a small sneeze. I shivered and hugged my arms close to my body.

Jack gave me a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry, I can only keep you cold."

"It's fine," I told him and leaned my head against his chest. I don't care if he can't keep me warm, I just want to feel someone's touch. Jack wrapped his arms around me tighter and let out a sigh.

"Jack?" A female voice echoed. "Jack?!"

Jack and I stumbled backward in shock as his pocket starts to glow with golden light. Jack pulls something out of his pocket and it's the tooth box that holds his teeth.

"Jack!"

Jack looks at the box and Baby Tooth was here. Jack gave her a look as she put her hand on the box and she nodded. Jack turned to me and I smiled at him nodding along. Jack touches the box and his eyes widened.

----

Jack seemed gone for the last five minutes and I got worried until I realized he was reliving his memories.

Out of nowhere, Jack gasped and Baby Tooth and I blinked at him.

Jack grabbed my shoulders. "Did you both see- Did you see that?!"

Baby Tooth and I shook out heads and Jack laughs. He picked up Baby Tooth who chitters along with him and he looked at me. I was smiling at his excitement and he planted a cold kiss on my cheek and I blushed.

"What did you see?" I questioned, ignoring the kiss he gave me.

"It-it was- it was me!" Jack exclaimed with a huge smile. "I had a family! I had a sister! I saved her!"

Jack laughs hysterically and I giggled with excitement.

"That's why he choose you!" I beamed and looked at the moon.

Jack seemed to follow my gaze.

"I'm- I'm a Guardian!"

Jack stood up and he carefully helped me onto my feet.

"Yes, you are." I nodded and Jack and I quickly hugged.

"We have to get out of here." Jack declared, putting Baby Tooth in his shoulder.

"How?" I asked.

Jack glanced at me for a moment before he knee-slides to his broken staff. I stayed in place and watched him try to put it back together but nothing happened.

"Ah!" He grunted and I approached him, putting my hand on his shoulder.

"Focus." I softly said and Jack stood up on his feet.

Jack focused this time and he creates a blue light in the crack of the staff. My eyes widened and so did Jacks as the light grew bigger.

Jack wrapped an arm around my waist and flew out of the fissure together. My arms were locked around his neck and we both cheered with excitement.

"Whoo Hoo!" Jack cheered as we flew. "Baby Tooth I owe you one!"

We flew all the way to Pitch's lair to free the rest of the fairies but none of them could fly because the lights were going out indicating they couldn't fly.

Jack flew us down to the globe and we looked at it closely.

"They're all going out," I said with panic.

All the lights went out except for one. The last light had to be a special child.

Jack hopped onto the globe and he smiled.

"Jamie!"

----

Jack took me back to the my cove and he went to go see Jamie.

My powers were still weak and useless and my wand was gone and my broom was weak. I couldn't do any magic and I wasn't the only one who was affected by this. North couldn't control his sleigh, Tooth had trouble flying, and Bunny... let's just say he isn't six foot one anymore.

As I was at my cove, North came crashing in with his sleigh. They informed me that we had to go to Burgess because the last light was there and I didn't protest about it.

I tried my best not to laugh at Bunny's current state but it failed miserably.

We teleported to Burgess and it wasn't a smooth landing at all. The sleigh was on a crash course with Jamie's street.

North tries to control it but it failed. "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!" It comes to a halt and the reindeer run off. "Come back!"

I stumbled onto my feet and Tooth and I helped North stand.

"North, are you okay?" Tooth asked North who seemed dazed.

"Is official. My powers are kaput!" North flew down as the sleigh settles with a thud.

Suddenly Tooth gasped when she saw something. "Look!"

I turned and saw Jack approaching us. "Jack!"

I stumbled out of the sleigh and fall into my knees. I felt Jack grab my hands and pulled me into my feet.

"You okay?" He asked and I nodded with pink cheeks. Tooth stumbled out of the sleigh but I caught her and she gave me a weary smile.

North climbs out of his sleigh and used his sword as a crutch. "What are you doing here?"

"Same as you," Jack said and right then a young boy ran out of the house and he spotted us.

A smile grew on my face when I saw him. It must be Jamie, the last light.

"The last light," North said with surprise and relief.

Jamie was in shock. "Wow! It is you! I mean, it is you!" Jamie turned to Jack laughing and I giggled at his excitement. "I knew it wasn't a dream."

A small gasp escapes lips. Jack got what he wanted, to be believed in.

"Jack! He sees you!" North sighed with happiness.

Jack shoves Jamie on the shoulder in fondness before his expression changed. "Wait-but-where's Bunny?"

My lips formed into a line and North spoke.

"Losing Easter took a toll on all of us. Bunny most of all."

From the sleigh, a grey & white rabbit jumps up on the edge of it. Bunny looked adorable but it was unfortunate he became this way.

"Oh no..." Jack trailed off.

Jamie let out a laugh. "That's the Easter Bunny?"

"Sort of," I added and Bunny wrinkled his nose at me.

"Now somebody sees me! Awh-where were you about an hour ago, mate?" Bunny asked with a glare in his cute eyeballs.

"What happened to him?" Jamie asked and went up to Bunny. "He used to be huge and, cool, and now he's...cute." He starts to scratch behind Bunny's ear whose leg thumps on the sleigh.

I giggled at his reaction.

"Oh, that's good." Bunny cooed before he got a grip." Ahh!" He beats Jamie's hand away. "Did you tell him to say that?" Bunny hopped over to Jack and hits his leg with both rear haunches and acts like he's going to box. "That's it, let's go, me and you! Come on!"

"No, actually, he told me you were real! Just when I started to think that maybe you weren't." Jamie protested, kneeling down to Bunny's height.

Buuny rested on his haunches and his facial expression changed to with gratefulness. "He made you believe? In me?" Bunny turned to Jack and gave him a genuine smile and Jack returned it.

Out of nowhere thunder and lightning crackled in the sky, starling all of us. Jack put an arm in front me when we noticed it was Pitch in the sky.

"Get Jamie out of here.'" Jack ordered and I gave Jack a concerned look.

"Be careful, Jack," I told him and Jack gave me a reassuring smile before he flew to Pitch.

I watched Jack as he flew up for a few more seconds before joining the others.
