Chapter 2-Pitch is Back and Teeth Collecting
Autumn's POV
Jack and North went to go talk. Everything was just fine for a little while until Tooth told us there was trouble at her palace. She and I rushed over there while Bunny got Jack and North. I have a feeling it has something to do with Pitch.
Tooth and I are basically sisters, we tell each other everything. So, when something like this happens, we stick together and help each other out.
When we arrived, we saw black sand horses capturing the Baby Teeth. Tooth immediately went searching for all the teeth, while I tried to stop the horses from taking the Baby Teeth.
There were so many. All the magic in the world couldn't stop them.
"Twilight, go find the boys," I ordered my cat who vanished away on command.
I hope the boys get here soon.
I heard sinister laughter in the distance and I froze.
"Pitch." I sneered and scanned my surroundings for any sign of him.
"Hello, little niece. So wonderful to see you again." I heard Pitch's voice echo throughout the palace. Tooth wasn't nearby and the boys weren't here, so I was all alone.
I whipped out my wand and was ready to take on any surprises Pitch had for me.
"Don't worry, darling, I won't hurt you," Pitch assured me and I scoffed.
"Hurt me all you want, just give Tooth her teeth and fairies back," I demanded, but Pitch just chuckled in response.
"I'm afraid, I can't do that." He denied and he appeared in front of me.
I jumped back at his sudden appearance but kept my wand out.
"The only thing I truly want is you." Pitch floated closer to me but I moved away.
"I know, but I'm never joining you. I'd rather die than do that." I exclaimed and blasted my magic at Pitch with my wand but he dodged it swiftly.
"Nice try, niece, but you can't hurt me." Pitch teased and I growled at him. "Besides you wouldn't want to hurt me anyway, because I have her."
I gasped when Pitch had Twilight in a cage.
"Twilight!" I yelled and flew over to her but Pitch just smirked evilly and vanished. "NOO!"
I sat on my broom and felt tears form in my eyes. This is the first time I have cried in a hundred years, I never cry.
"Autumn!" I heard Tooth call out and I turned to find her flying over me. She was distressed and worried sick. "Pitch took the teeth and my fairies."
"Pitch took Twilight too!" I added and she gasped. She knows Twilight is a huge part of me and what I do. Twilight is litke my little baby.
Tooth frantically flew around while I just sat on my broom with my head down.
"Tooth! Autumn! Are you girls alright?!" I heard North call out and I lifted my head up to see North and everyone else here.
"Pitch took Twilight!" I told him and North gave me a sympathetic look.
"They took my fairies and the teeth! All of them." Tooth told them and North, Sandy, and Bunny came over to us. "Everything is gone! Everything!"
"Twilight..." I sighed and hung my head. I hopped off my broom and felt Bunny hug me.
I heard chirping and saw one fairy had made it.
Tooth smiled with relief and held her baby tooth. "Thank goodness! One of you is alright!"
"I have to say this is very exciting." Pitch's voice echoed through the palace and I got out my wand once again. "The Big Five all in one place." Pitch appeared above us. "I have to say, I'm a little starstruck. Did you like my show on the globe North? Gotchu all together, didn't I?"
North stomped his foot in anger.
"Pitch! You have got thirty seconds to return my fairies and Twilight!" Tooth threatened flying up to him, but Pitch disappeared.
"Or? You'd stick a quarter under my pillow? Or you'd turn me into a frog?" Pitch teased and I clenched my fist. I could feel my nails digging into my skin from how mad I was.
"Why are you doing this?" North asked Pitch.
"Maybe, I want what you have." Pitch started. "To be believed in. Maybe I'm tired of hiding under beds!"
Nobody wants to believe in fear.
"Maybe that's where you belong!" Bunny cut in and Pitch appeared underneath us.
"Go suck an egg, rabbit." Pitch sighed and vanished. Bunny reached for him but Pitch had already disappeared. I pulled Bunny back onto his feet.
"Hang on, is that Jack Frost?" Pitch asked and let out a laugh. "Since when are you all so chummy?"
"We're not," Jack said and Pitch appeared behind him.
"Good, a neutral party." Pitch sighed. "Then I'm gonna ignore you, but you must be used to that by now."
Bunny had enough of this and charged after Pitch.
"Pitch!"
Pitch vanished and I saw him appear above us.
"Ahhh!" I flew up to him and went to attack, but black sand horses formed in front of me. I floated backward and gasped.
"Woah! Hey! Easy girl! Easy." Pitch told his dark horse, calming her down. Pitch let black sand float down to Sandman. "Look familiar, Sandman? Took me a while to perfect this little trick. Turning dreams into nightmares."
Sandman gave Pitch a heavy glare. I flew down to the others and stood on the ground.
"Don't be nervous, it only riles them up more," Pitch informed us, petting his dark sand horse. "They smell fear, you know?"
"What fear? Of you?!" Bunny laughed and Tooth handed him his boomerang. "Nobody's been afraid of you since the dark ages!"
"Oh, the dark ages." Pitch shook his head. "Everyone frightened, miserable, such happy times for me. All the power I wilded, but then the Man in the Moon chose to replace my fear with your wonder and light. Lifting their hearts, giving them hope and happiness. Meanwhile, everyone wrote me off as just a bad dream. Oh, there's nothing to be afraid off, there's no such thing as the Bogeyman! Well, that's all about to change."
Suddenly black sand began to form over Tooth's Palace.
"It's happening already," Pitch added.
"What is?" Jack asked.
The fear in Tooth's eyes grew at the sight.
"Children are waking up and realizing the Tooth Fairy never came," Pitch told us and Tooth was in shock and sorrow. "Such a little thing but to a child."
"What's going on?" Jack asked with confusion.
"They-they don't believe in me anymore." Tooth said with her lip trembling. I put a reassuring hand on Tooth's shoulder. I shut my eyes, trying not to cry again.
"They didn't tell you, Jack? It's great being a guardian, but there is a catch." Pitch told Jack. "If enough kids stop believing, everything your friends protect. Wonder, hopes, dreams, and happiness. All goes away and little, by little so do they. No Christmas, No Easter, or little fairies that come in the night, or the season of Autumn. There will be nothing but fear and darkness. And me. It's your turn to not be believed in." Pitch glared at us.
I shot my magic at Pitch with my wand but Pitch dodged it again. Bunny yelled out and threw his boomerang at him. Pitch hopped onto his horses and fled the scene, but we chased after him.
Bunny threw his egg bombs at Pitch but he dodged each one of them. We landed in Tooth's Lagoon and carefully searched the area for Pitch, but he was gone.
"He's gone," North said and I lowered my wand. I felt so empty without Twilight here. She was little my daughter, my little angel.
I sank to my knees and just looked at my wand. Bunny and North were having a conversation about what to do but I didn't care.
"Sorry about Twilight." Jack appeared next to me.
"Me too," I said and looked at Jack who had sadness in his mesmerizing eyes. "She's like my own baby."
"Why would Pitch take her?" Jack asked and I sighed out, knowing I would have to tell him.
"Pitch knows she is one of my weaknesses. He wants me to join him because I'm his niece." I admitted and Jack's eyes widened for a second.
"I didn't know you were his niece. I mean you're beautiful and happy and he's well...dark." Jack rubbed his white hair nervously, which caused me to crack a small smile.
"I still wonder to this day on how we are related." I shrugged and then realized what he previously said. "Wait, did you just call me beautiful?"
Jack's cheeks became pink and he let out a nervous chuckle. "Just stating the truth, I guess."
I averted my eyes from Jack, giggling to myself. I felt sorrow at this moment but I also felt love and compassion. It was because of Jack.
"Thanks, Jack." I shot him a weak smile and he returned one.
"Do you know why Pitch took the teeth?" Jack asked me, changing the subject.
"It's not the teeth he wanted, it's the memories inside them." Tooth cut in, gliding over to us.
"What do you mean?" Jack asked her
"That's why we collect the teeth, Jack. They hold the most important memories of childhood." Tooth explained and flew over to the mural on the wall of the Lagoon. Jack walked across the pond, freezing it with each step he took. I flew alongside Tooth. "My fairies and I watch over them and when someone needs to remember what's important. We help them."
"Just like when I remind a child of their happiness," I added on, glancing at Jack for a moment.
"Yeah. We had everyone's here. Yours too." Tooth told Jack, placing a hand on his back.
Jack blinked a few times, confused. "My memories?"
"From when you were young before you became Jack Frost," I informed Jack and he was bewildered.
"But... I wasn't anyone before I became Jack Frost." Jack denied, shaking his head.
"Well, of course you were." Tooth said. "We were all someone before we were chosen."
Jack's eyes widened. "What?" Jack mumbled words I couldn't understand, but he was shocked. "Are you saying I had a life before that. With-with a home and-and a family?!"
I tilted my head confused. "You really don't remember?"
"All these years, the answers were right here. If I find my memories, then I'll know why I'm here." Jack began to fly into the air with eagerness. "You'll have to show me!"
"I can't, Jack. Pitch has them." Tooth told him with guilt. Jack froze and squatted on a boulder.
"Then we'll have to get them back!" Jack demanded with determination.
Tooth gasped and looked down. Some of her feathers were falling off her body. "The children! We're too late!"
The mural on the wall had nightmares forming on it.
"No! No! No such thing as 'too late!' North exclaimed, with his swords in his hands. He began to think. "Wait. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait!" His eyes widened and snapped his head to Bunny, thrusting his sword towards Bunny who leaned back. "Idea!" North laughed. "We will collect the teeth!"
"What?!" Tooth protested.
"We will get teeth. Children keep believing in you." North explained.
"We're talking seven continents and millions of kids!" Tooth reasoned, distressed.
North waved her off. "Give me break. You know how many toys I deliver in one night?"
"And eggs I hid in one day," Bunny added with a smirk.
"And Jack if you help us. We will get you your memories." North told Jack who seemed to like that agreement.
I giggled glancing at Tooth who was smiling from ear to ear.
"I'm in." Jack agreed.
----
It felt different for me to be out in the field during Spring. I'm usually out during the fall, not Spring. The tooth collecting became a race because Bunny and Jack are trying to outrun each other and I wasn't complaining about it.
We started in Brooklyn, New York, which was where I lived before I became a Guardian.
"This is going to be epic!" North exclaimed, shooting up from a chimney.
Tooth was overly excited about being out in the field again because her fairies are usually the ones who collect the teeth.
I found myself flying around aimlessly.
"You alright there, Snowflake?" I saw Jack leaning against a billboard.
I nodded and flew up to him. "I'm just not used to being out in the field during Spring."
"Makes sense considering you're an Autumn Spirit." Jack pointed out and I gave him a smile.
"I like the nickname by the way," I mentioned which made Jack smirk a little.
"Fits you perfectly," Jack winked at me and I giggled lightly.
Breaking the moment between us was Tooth who flew passed us probably because she spotted a tooth from the distance.
Jack and I glanced at each other and shrugged.
The tooth collecting was a funny sight to have watched. We all collected teeth but it was a competition.
For me, I collected teeth that everyone went after because they either were fighting or got stuck in one of Bunny's tunnel's together. A few times I used my magic to steal teeth from the boys because I could.
I saw that Jack had stolen Bunny's tooth so I created a gust of wind and knocked it out of his hand.
"Hey!" He exclaimed before he saw me. I laughed.
"Haha!" He gave me a playful glare before I flew off to another house.
Successfully, we all collected teeth and had huge bags of them. North's was the biggest and mine was the second biggest.
"Wow, you guys collect teeth and leave gifts as fast as my fairies." Tooth smiled and we lowered our bags and our faces.
Gifts? Opps.
Tooth's face fells when she realized we haven't been leaving gifts. "You guys have been leaving gifts, right?"
We all felt guilty about not leaving gifts and the boys got coins from Brooklyn Bridge Coin-Laundry. I didn't need to wait to get coins because I can conjure up coins with my magic.
We left gifts for all the children before we headed to a different city.
I was collecting teeth and minding my own business when I heard crying nearby. I immediately flew to the crying and found a young girl crying on her bed. My heart ached at the sight and I had to fix it.
I don't know if she would be able to see me but I will cheer her up. I took out my wand and conjured up a puppy made of pixie dust. I smiled at my creation and blew it towards her and watched her reaction. The little girl looked up and her eyes widened and the puppy danced around her head. The child grew a smile on her face and giggled at the puppy as is danced.
I created other animals and sent them to her. A tiger, a lion, a horse, a puppy, and a rabbit were dancing around her. The little girl was laughing and smiling at the sight.
I didn't know what upset her but she seemed happy now and that's all that matters. About a minute passed and the little girl got tired and went to bed. I left satisfied and flew decided to find my fellow Guardians. I was in a good mood at the moment all because I made one child happy and that makes me happy.
I spotted everyone in a little boy's room, except Bunny and I joined them.
Jack's face lit up when he spotted me which made me smile.
Before I could say anything, Bunny appeared from one of his tunnels.
"Oh, I see how it is. All working together to make sure the rabbit gets last place." Bunny glared and we shushed him. Bunny put his hands up in surrender and Jack stepped forward.
"Think I need help to beat a bunny." Jack pulled out a bag of teeth. "Check it out Peter Cottontail."
Jack's was so small compared to mine and North's.
"You call that a bag of choppers?" Bunny showed him his bigger bag of teeth. "Now that's a bag of choppers."
"This is a bag of choppers." I jumped in, showing them an even bigger bag of teeth.
"Hey, this is about Tooth, it's not a competition, but if it was-" North slammed down a gigantic bag of teeth. "I win! Yeeeehaw!"
Suddenly, a flashlight flicked on and North froze.
"Oh, no." North choked out and a gasp was heard. The little boy woke up and he sees us.
