Chapter 1-New Guardian

Autumn's POV

I was currently on my way to North's Workshop. He sent out a signal which means we have trouble or something exciting is happening; I really hope it's the exciting one.

I was flying on my broom with my black cat, Twilight. I'm a witch that controls the season Autumn and the Guardian of Happiness. I keep the children around the globe as happy as they can be.

Once I got there, I saw that Bunny, Tooth, and Sandy had already got there. I gave all my fellow guardians a friendly wave.

"Hello." I greeted, hopping off my broom. Twilight crawled onto my shoulder and shrunk down to the size of a mouse.

"-I wouldn't have called you here unless it was serious," North told Sandy, who was a little annoyed because he was busy giving children their dreams. "The Bogeyman was here! At the Pole!"

That name gives me the shivers. I have the unfortunate job of calling him my uncle. My whole life he has been trying to get me to join him because I'm his niece.

"Pitch?" Tooth said. "Pitch Black? Here?"

"Yes, there was black sand covering the globe!" North exclaimed with big hand gestures.

"Wh-what do ya mean by 'black sand?' Bunny asked hopping over to him.

"And then a shadow!" North continues.

"Hold on, hold on." I stopped North. "I thought you said you saw Pitch?"

North rubbed his head. "Well, ah, not exactly..."

"Not exactly? Can you believe this guy?" Bunny asked Sandy who shrugged and formed a dreamsand question mark above his head.

"Yeah, you said it, Sandy." Bunny chuckled, painting his egg.

"Look, he's up to something very bad," North told us. "I feel it!" He grabbed his belly. "In my belly."

Twilight purred quietly and I motioned her to be quiet while giving her a treat. She ate silently.

"Hang on, hang on, you mean to say, you summoned me here three days before EASTER- because of your belly? Mate if I did this to you three days before Christmas-"

I could hear Tooth talking to her fairies about teeth that needed to be taken. Her and Sandman have jobs every day of the year and I only do mine during one season of the year. Of course, it depends on where you live. In the Southern Hemisphere, Autumn happens in March, April, and May. I wasn't worrying about changing Summer to Fall in the Southern part of the globe, because if something goes wrong there I will sense it.

"Please, Bunny. Easter is not Christmas." North grinned at Bunny before walking passed him

Bunny fake laughed before glaring. "Here we go. North, I-I don't have time for this. I still got two billion eggs to finish up."

I blocked out Bunny and North's argument and looked at Twilight. She wasn't on my shoulder anymore.

"Twilight?" I questioned and looked around the workshop. "Where did you go?"

I scanned the area and spotted Twilight eating a chocolate chip cookie.

"No, Twilight!" I rushed over to my cat and grabbed the cookie from her. "You can't have chocolate, you could get sick from it."

She gave me puppy dog eyes or in this case kitty cat eyes. Her adorable purple eyes were staring into my soul, begging me to give her back the cookie.

"Curse you and your adorable eyeballs," I muttered. I made the chocolate chip cookie disappear and made a new cookie appear.

"Here, have a salmon cookie instead," I suggested and handed her the cookie. She sniffed the cookie and licked her lips before devouring it.

I giggled and picked her up. "This cookie won't make you sick and it keeps mommy happy when you aren't sick."

Suddenly, I heard a ringing and I turned my head to find Sandy shaking an elf. He must've got annoyed and wanted to get North and Bunny's attention because they were arguing.

I approached Sandman as he dropped the dizzy elf onto the ground. An angry Sandy pointed to his head and a crescent moon formed.

We all looked at the moon and North Gasped.

"Man in Moon! Sandy, why didn't you say something?" North asked Sandy who gave him an angry look with sand shooting out his ears.

"It's been a long time old friend? What is big news?" North asked the Man in Moon and we stared at the moon into anticipation. Our eyes wandered to the center of the moonlight and a shadowed silhouette appeared. It was Pitch Black.

Twilight got scared and shrunk to a size small enough so she can hide in my clothes. I was stunned, we all were.

I don't want to deal with him again. I really don't

"It is Pitch," Bunny said, looking at North.

North patted his belly. "Manny... what must we do?"

In response, the shadow of Pitch vanishes and the circle of light intensifies. The ornate symbol on the floor separates and a large gem rises from the ground.

I gasped, happily. This means a new guardian.

"Ah, guys, you know what this means?" Tooth asked us, and I nodded.

"He's chosen a new guardian!" I twinkled and North nodded

"What? Why?" Bunny asked in shock.

"Must be big deal! Manny thinks we need help!" North explained. Manny is never wrong, always trust Manny.

"Since when do we need help?!" Bunny questioned, annoyed

"I wonder who it's gonna be?!" Tooth wondered with excitement.

Twilight appeared out of my clothes, normal size, and crawled onto my head with her ears perked up.

Sandy formed a four-leaf clover over his head.

"Maybe the Leprechaun?" I guessed.

"Please not the groundhog, please not the groundhog." Bunny pleaded.

A figure forms above the central pillar, it is a hologram of a hooded male with a hooked staff. It's Jack Frost.

"Jack Frost," North said impressed.

Tooth's fairies all swoon over Jack. Not surprised, Jack is pretty hot for a winter spirit.

Stunned, Bunny shakes his head. "Ah, I take it back. The Groundhog's fine!"

"Well, ah, as long as he helps... to project to the children, right?' Tooth asked after she stopped admiring Jack Frost.

"Jack Frost? He doesn't care about children! All he does is freeze water pipes and mess with my egg hunts." Bunny complained, making me roll my eyes. "Right? He's an irresponsible, selfish-"

"Guardian!" I finished for Bunny, smiling up at the holographic figure of Jack.

"Jack Frost is many things, but he is not a Guardian." Bunny continued.

----

The next night, Bunny went to retrieve Jack by capturing him in a sack and teleporting him here by using Santa's snow globe.

I wanted to go but Bunny insisted he go.

It wasn't long until a portal opened up and a red sack flies through the portal and lands on the floor. The elves look into the sack.

"He's here!" North smiled.

The elves staggered as the bag opened up to reveal the one and only Jack Frost. Bunny came back and stood off to the side, grumbling.

"There he is! Jack Frost!" North smiled with his arms open to welcome the new Guardian.

"Wow, you gotta be kidding me," Jack said with utter annoyance. The two yeti's that transported Jack here grabbed his shoulder and pulled him onto his feet.

"Hey, hey! Whoa, put me down!" He said.

"Hope the yeti's treated you well?" North asked with hope

"Oh, yeah, I love being shoved in a sack and tossed through a magic portal," Jack commented with sarcasm which caused me to giggle.

"Oh, good! That was my idea!!" North smiled and then gestured over to a grumbling Bunny. "You know Bunny, obviously."

"Obviously," Jack repeated.

"And Tooth Fairy?" North added and Tooth glided over to Jack with eagerness.

"Hello, Jack! I've heard a lot about you. And your teeth!"

"My, my what?" Jack questioned, confused.

"Open up!" Tooth manually opened up Jack's mouth to check out his dazzling teeth. "Are they really as white as they say? Yes!" Tooth gasped. "Oh, they really do sparkle like freshly fallen snow."

The Mini Teeth fluttered around Jack, swooning over him. Tooth collects herself.

"Girls, pull yourselves together... Let's not disgrace the uniform." Tooth instructed her fairies.

"And Autumn Charm?" North pointed to me and I gave Jack a small wave. Twilight approached Jack and rubbed her head against his leg. Jack chuckled and patted Twilight, who didn't mind his icy touch.

I saw Jack give me another look and for some reason it caused me to blush. His blue eyes are beautiful.

"How could I not know the lovely Autumn Spirit?" Jack asked, winking. I averted my eyes with my blush intensifying.

Twilight retreated back over to me and laid down at my feet.

"And Sandman." North continued and we saw the Sandy was sleeping. "Sandy! Sandy! Wake up!

Sandy woke up and gave Jack a weary smile.

"Hey! Ho! Anyone wanna tell me why I'm here?" Jack asked and Sandy stepped up.

A barrage of images of sand formed above Sandy's head but it didn't help Jack out too much. It confused me quite a bit.

"Uh, that's not really helping, but thanks, little man." Jack grinned before standing up. "I must've done something bad to get you five together." Jack frosted an elf with his staff as he walked. "Am I on the naughty list?"

North chuckled with amusement. "On naughty list? You hold record! But no matter. We overlook. Now we are wiping clean the slate."

"How come?" Jack asked him.

"Ah, good question." Bunny complimented but it was more of a sarcastic comment.

"How come? I tell you how come! Because now... you are Guardian!" North announced and a huge ceremony began to start. Jack's face was the funniest thing, he is so confused. As the ceremony commenced, Jack began to look annoyed and it was obvious he didn't want to be a guardian.

The fire in the ceremony was the worst idea. Jack is the winter spirit, why have fire?

A yeti handed North a book and he opened it. North clears his throat and right then Jack slammed his staff on the ground, sending a blast of frost across the room and the torches go out and the music dies down.

"What makes you think I want to be a Guardian?" Jack asked us.

North begins to laugh and then looks at Jack, stone-faced.

"Of course you do! Music!"

The elf blares the trumpet again.

"No music!" Jack ordered and the music dies down. The elf throws down his trumpet and storms off, shoving his fellow elf along the way.

"Look, this is all very flattering, but uh... you don't want me," Jack told us and hopped onto a table. "You're all hard work and deadlines and I'm snowball and fun times." Jack sat on the table. "I'm not a Guardian."

Bunny chuckled. "Yeah, that's exactly what I said!"

North whacked Bunny, but Tooth stopped them.

I approached Jack who leaned back.

"Jack... I don't think you understand what it is we do." I told him and flew up to the globe using my broomstick. "Each one of those lights is a child."

"A child who believes. Good or bad, naughty or nice, we protect them." North continued for me.

"Ah! Ah!"

I saw Tooth was examining Jack's mouth and I snickered as I flew back down to the ground.

"Tooth... fingers out of mouth," North ordered Tooth and she removed her hands from his mouth.

"Sorry. They're beautiful." Tooth smiled. I had to agree, he had a dazzling set of teeth.

"Okay, no more wishy-washy! Pitch is out there doing who knows what!" North exclaimed with his hands on his hips.

"You mean the Bogeyman?" Jack reinstated.

"Yes! When Pitch threatens us, he threatens them as well!" North informed pointing to the lights on the globe.

"All the more reason to pick someone more qualified!" Jack waved us off.

"Pick? You think we pick? No, you were chosen like we were all chosen. By Man in Moon!" North explained, motioning up the moon.

Jack looked at us, dumbstruck. "What?"

"Last night, Jack. He chose you." Tooth told jack.

"Maybe." Bunny corrected and I gave Bunny a glare.

"The Man in the Moon, he talks to you?" Jack asked us and I nodded.

"You see, you cannot say 'no.' It is destiny." North mentioned.

"W-why wouldn't he tell me that himself?" Jack asked, gazing at the moon in the sky. Jack let out a sigh and rubbed his head. "After 300 years this is his answer? To spend eternity like you guys cooped up into some, some hideout thinking of-of new ways to bribe kids? No, no, that's not for me! No offense."

I scoffed. Saying 'no offense' does nothing, it just makes it more offensive in my opinion.

"How is that no offensive?" Bunny asked Jack with a glare.

"Oh, no," I mumbled.

Bunny approached Jack. "You know what I think? I think we just dodged a bullet. I mean, what's this clown know about bringing joy to children anyway?" Bunny scratched his cheek with his paw and Jack turned to us.

"Uhh, you ever hear of a snow day? I know it's no hard-boiled egg, but kids like what I do." Jack explained.

"But none of'em believe in you. Do they?" Bunny asked and Jack gave Bunny a glare. "You see, you're invisible, mate. It's like you don't even exist."

"Bunny!" I stepped up, poking Bunny with my wand. "Enough!"

"No, the Kangaroo's right." Jack accepted and I let a smile slip out at that comment.

Jack really knows how to irritate Bunny, especially when he makes it snow on Easter.

"The-the, what- what'd you'd call me?" Bunny asked Jack in a threatening tone. "I am not a kangaroo, mate."

"Oh, and this whole time I thought you were. If you're not a kangaroo, what are you?" Jack asked Bunny, getting right in his face.

"I'm a bunny. The Easter Bunny. People believe in me." Bunny scolded and I could tell Jack was stung by his words but he didn't show it.

North broke the tension. "Jack. Walk with me."
