The boy from Berk

Part two!!!

---

Hiccup and Toothless shot through the sky, unable to stay hidden due to Hiccup's fiery hair. Every attempt he made to put it out just made it grow in both size and strength.

"He hates me bud. He's right, I am a monster." The boy cried, his tears sizzling against his burning skin. Toothless growled, annoyed that someone has made his master feel such raw emotion.

"I should let them take me. I deserve to be killed."

"You really think we would kill you?" Snotlout's voice called out from behind him. "You are more our chief than Stoik is. Always have been. We are not about to betray you just because you can create a little fire."

"Then why are you chasing me?" Hiccup said trying to calm his tears and failing.

"Because knowing you, you would go and do something stupid." Ruff said her twin chiming in with 'yeah's.

Hookfang glided closer to Toothless, but sparks of orange encased the pair preventing anyone coming to close.

"I'm sorry I can't control it. Please leave I don't want to hurt you." Snotlout grunted but moved back all the same. The three dragons landed in a large clearing at the base of the mountains, the very same spot Hiccup found Jack.

"Where are-" hiccup was cut of by a female war cry and the clash of metal. He jumped back, fire spilling from his hands only to find Astrid holding Snotlout in a choke hold and Jack holding the twins in the air by their ankles.

"Thank Thor we found you Hiccup." Jack exclaimed running up to extinguish the flames.

"They said they wouldn't hurt me. It's okay really, you can let them go." Hiccup mumbled, revelling in the coolness of Jack's hands against his cheek.

Astrid reluctantly let Snotlout drop to the floor and went to Hiccup's side. She hated seeing her best friend this upset.

"Hiccup what should we do." Tuff asked, his voice lacking his normal cocky tone.

"I don't know, Tuff. I don't know."

---

Hiccup tossed and turned in his bed unable to rid himself of the guilt he was feeling. Because of him, his father had called war on the edge, saying the riders disobedience was treason. Gobber's switch of sides sent Stoik over the edge, made him even more vengeful and violent than before. Knowing that all of Berk was coming to Dragons Edge made Hiccup feel sick. People are going to get hurt because of him. This was all his fault.

"Hiccup can I talk to you?" Came Jack's voice from the floor below. Hiccup jumped out of bed and hurried down the stairs, glad to be in the boys company.

"What is it Jack?" Hiccup said a little too eagerly.

"I just wanted to make sure you were alright. There was a giant wall of fire around your hut." Jack said with a hint of a smirk. Hiccup rolled his eyes and seated himself at the dining table.

"I'm just fine."

"Hiccup don't lie to me. I know when someone is hurting. I can see it in your eyes. You don't have to pretend for me."

That's all it took for Hiccup to break down. Jack scooped him into a hug, stroking his hair that was threatening to alight.

"It's okay Hiccup." Jack cooed.

"No it's not. Because of me my dad is leading an entire army to Dragons Edge. I am constantly putting my team at risk because I can't control myself. Everything is falling apart and I can't do anything to stop it." Small fires spread across his hut, immediately put out by sheets of ice.

"Hiccup look at me," the boy refused so Jack cupped his face and tilted it upwards. "This is not your fault. Your father is a cruel man who can't accept change. If he wants a war then so be it, everyone here stands by you and would fight to the death to protect you. I for one would risk life and limb for you, and we have known each other all of two days."

Hiccup looked up through glassy eyes blinking away the stray tears. He knew deep down that everyone here cared for him, but the recent events made it extremely hard for him to accept. How can you believe people love you when you deem yourself a monster?

"Get some rest Hiccup. You will need all the strength you can get for the coming days." Jack went to get up but Hiccup had other plans. He tugged on his wrist and made for the wooden stairs leading to the young chiefs bedroom.

Jack bit back a blush that was quickly rising up his neck. But his ivory skin made it blatantly obvious to Hiccup.

"Stay, please." Jack couldn't resist Hiccup's for eyes and nodded. Before he knew it he was wrapped in a thin blanket and strong arms. Hiccup fell into sleep almost instantly, but Jack took a few moments to savour this feeling that would likely not last very long.

---

Blaring horns of war echoed across the shores of Dragons Edge. Catapults filled to the brim with flaming rocks lined the beaches, ready to fire on the huts.

The dragon riders stood ready, Gobber staying behind on repair/medical duty. He knew his skills would be better put to use there. Plus he really didn't want to face the Chief of Berk, not after what he has done to Hiccup.

Hiccup shook with a rage he didn't know he could posses. His magic flared as he watched the men and women of Berk unload barrells of weapons. Each blade glimmered with evil intent, begging to be used against the so called enemy. Hiccup's rage seemed to be infectious, taking a hold of every rider present.

Although unlike Hiccup, most of their anger was aimed at their former chief. None of them could understand why he would claim Hiccup, the sweet boy who wouldn't dare hurt a soul, is a freak of nature who's only purpose is to hurt and kill. Stoik's logic was beyond them.

"Hiccup they are tracking up the cliffs. Should we attack?" Astrid asked, trying to keep her voice from shaking.

"No. Hold until they make the first move. I will not hurt my people unless they provoke it." Astrid smiled inwardly glad to hear that even in his anger Hiccup could keep his head.

The team held formation as Berk swarmed the training area. War cries rang out in horrible cycles, making both Hiccup and Jack's magic go wild. It tried to lash out and the boys only just managed to contain it.

"Toothless down." Hiccup whispered. They landed on perch designed for the Night Terrors, so it swayed dangerously under the weight of Toothless. He faced the crowd of raging Vikings with a blank expression.

"I am not going to fight you. You are my people and I do not want this battle. My father is acting out of fear and hate, which given the circumstances is completely understandable. But that does not condone violence. So the dragon riders will not instigate this fight." Scoffs of laughter made Hiccups eyes blaze red. "However, attack us and we will not hesitate to run you off this island. My father has seen what I can do on my own, think of what five dragons, six of the most skilled riders in the archipelago and a warlock can do together."

That seemed to render the army speechless. Many turned their leader in hopes he knew what to do. Stoik looked ready to implode. There might as well be smoke coming out his ears.

"You do not frighten us freak." He spits making Hiccup wince. In an instant Hack was in front of hiccup glaring daggers at the bearded man.

"He has a name. Use it." He commanded, voice trembling with authority Stoik could only dream of possessing. Alas Stoik's ego got the better of him.

"I am not scared of you boy."

"Oh you should be." Jack smirked, fist balling tightly whilst magic sparked through his knuckles. The sky above seemed to darken, covered in thick grey clouds that rumbled with energy.

Everyone looked to the heavens utterly terrified. This scrawny silver haired boy had the power of Thor himself, able to create storms without batting an eye.

"Stoik we should leave." Spitelout whimpered, already backing away accompanied by most of the army.

"No, you will stand your ground." Stoik yelled.

The rest happened so quickly. A single arrow lodging into Jack's shoulder. A pained cry from the winter spirit, followed by a fierce yell from Hiccup. Fire encased the archer, killing him instantly. Small fires sprang up throughout the crowd, burning whoever it came in contact with.

Hiccup swooped down to the group and dismounted his dragon. Toothless kept his plasma blast ready, eager to defend his master. The once cheery boy stormed up to his father and sent a wave of energy that knocked him off his feet.

"I warned you!" He roared, bringing his fist down on the chiefs face. The heat of his fiat burned ivy like tendrils into Stoik's skin, blinding him in one eye.

The other riders soared above the fight, destroying as much of the weaponry as possible to prevent any further bloodshed. Gobber and Fishlegs were already tending to Jack in the safety of the clubhouse.

"Hiccup please" Stoik begged upon realising his arms are bound to his body preventing even the smallest of movements.

"You had your chance to leave. You came here for a fight, so a fight you shall get. Although I fear you won't be alive long enough to see our victory." Hiccup had well and truly snapped, his magic taking the reigns for the first time since discovery. It's brought out a newer, sinister side that Hiccup rather enjoyed.

He enjoyed the look of fear on his father's face. He enjoyed the screams he provoked. Most of all he enjoyed getting revenge on the people who hurt him, hurt Jack.

Hiccup's hand lathed around his father's throat, slowly burning through the skin. Stoik's eyes alighted with pure agony. Before the light left him completely he tried one last shot at redemption.

"I'm sorry son."

"It's too late for that."

---

Berk had been left leaderless. Hiccup refused to leave his newfound safe haven of Dragons edge. A lot of the Berkians who tried to leave the battle before it begun had been welcomed on the island, put under the protection of Hiccup himself.

Stoik's death marked the end of Berk, something that should spark sadness amount the villagers. But instead implored such joy for looking back Berk was not really all to great. Sure they had a huge army and was one of the most respected tribes in the archipelago. But that respect was not earned in any sense, only installed by fear and intimidation.

Dragons Edge had earned its reputation of being a true safe haven, welcoming to all people and dragon alike. Their respect is and will always be well earned, thanks to the actions of their Chief.

Hiccup Haddock the third.

THIS IS NOT THE END!! There will be another installment to this eventually. I might write a new fic first then come back to this one, but you will get a proper ending. For now enjoy this kinda depressing chapter.
