Chapter 3

The guard escorts me back down to a different room that looked like a visiting center. Everyone was back and lined up on one side of the tables. There was a small phone facing us. I took it that we were doing the interviews.

Another door opened and ten detainees came out shackled in silver chains. They were in severe pain as the silver burned their skin. I could not help but feel a bit of sympathy for them.

A man sat in front of me with distant eyes. I could tell he was in pain and I honestly did not think this was right. We were going to interview them but for this reason they are suffering.

He grabbed the phone and just stared. I picked up the one on my side.

"Hello." I say to him.

"What do you want to know?" He says bluntly.

"What is your name?" I ask.

"Jensen, I am a vampire. Anything else?" He responds.

I could tell he wanted to be anywhere but here. Wait. Jensen.

"I believe I read your case files before." I tell him which catches his attention.

"Yeah, and?" He says.

"I don't think you deserve to be in here. You actually have a huge chance of winning an appeal to be free. Along with the man charged with you Brian I believe was his name." I tell him.

He stared at me in shock. I don't think anyone has ever told this man they believe he is innocent. I catch him looking a few spots down. I take a look at where his eyes keep detouring and I see Charlie.

"So you think I am innocent?" he questions.

"I do not know. I do not know both sides of the story. I just know with what you were convicted on as well as your friend, is all circumstantial and barely any evidence linking either of you to this crime." I say.

Keeping his eyes on Charlie he simply nodded his head. Weird.

"How about this. I know you are a bit distracted right now. You tell me your side of the story and I will be able to pick up on any lies, and I will tell you about her." I say bluntly.

He raises his brow at me as if he is pondering his options.

"Well, as you know a lot of packs are still old fashioned. Wolves are not to communicate with Vampires. I met Brian when we were teenagers. Young. We became best of friends but we knew his pack would not approve.

We were like brothers as he didn't have family left. His parents and younger sister died in a rogue attack when he was young. When the Alpha found out he beat Brian everyday for a year and put him on a silver leash. He was treated as if he were there pet but not in a good way.

One night, rogues attacked their pack. I took it as a sign that I needed to help Brian. I was helping him escape when we were caught by the Alpha's mistress. They didn't even do a full investigation just locked us up threw away the key." He told me.

That makes a lot of sense of why they didn't have a lot of evidence and my wolf and I can tell he is telling the truth.

"Why do you keep staring at her?" I ask.

"She is my mate." He whispers extremely low.

"What?" I question.

He only nods in response and I look down to Charlie who gives me a look that confirms what he said.

"Her name is Charlie. She is my best friend. So, I will tell you something. I believe your story and I and my two best friends are opening are own law firm to help wrongfully convicted such as you. I graduate soon. I want your case. I want to get you out of here. When I do, you do not break her heart or it will be the last thing you do." I tell him.

"Really?" He says with a look of shock.

"Yes." I say.

"Two minutes remaining. Then chow time." A guard yells.

"In return I will do you a favor. Do not eat what they feed you. Please. Just trust me on this. This place is not what you think." He says.

The guards come in and rush the prisoners out and back to their cells I presume. I get back in line behind my friends as the other guards escort us to the mess hall.

We all follow in line where we are given a tray of food and seated at a table. I sat in between Charlie and Liz.

"Do not eat the food. Complain your stomach is upset but trust me do not eat it." I whisper as low as possible.

"What is going on?" Liz asks.

"Something is wrong here. I know you think so to." Charlie states.

I simply nod as guards are surrounding us and I do not want them to get wind of our suspicions. I do not know what is going on but I do not trust them. Not even a little bit.

The guards are staring at us intently. I want to talk to Charlie about her mate but I do not want them to know about it. Honestly, I want out of here.

I still cannot believe that Kane, the Kane is my mate. I honestly do not know how to feel about it. I can't get this eerie feeling about this place off my mind.

"WAAAAHHHH. WAAAAHHHH." The sound of sirens went off.

Red glaring lights began beaming throughout the prison. Guards were panicking. Their eyes glazing over, they were mind linking.

"Prisoners escape. Multiple prisoners have escaped." A voice shouts over the speakers in severe panic.

"Girls stay close to me." I say grabbing Charlie and Liz's hands.

Others are screaming, this place is starting to crumble in fear and panic. The lights then go off. Silence hits the room. All I can hear with my wolf hearing is everyone's frantic heartbeats.

My own heart is beating out of control. This is not a place you want to be stuck in hearing there are escapees running about. Some may be innocent but not all.

Suddenly, Liz is pulled away from my grip.

"Liz, where are you?" I shout.

"Charlie?" I shout again. She was grabbed from me to. I bring my wolf forward to use her vision in the dark.

Everything is chaotic. People rambling around trying to get out. Fear rolling off them like crashing waves of the ocean. I cannot seem to find Liz or Charlie. Where could they have gone?

I slowly start moving backwards trying to scent them in the air. As I am walking backward I bump into a hard chest. Before I can turn around a hand with a cloth covers my mouth silencing my scream.

I look back and my heart drops in fear but the sparks send other messages as my wolf howls looking into those black eyes.

"Hello there, my little mate." Blackness takes over me quickly.
