Chapter 8 | The Den
"Crazy..." Olga shivered.
She was defenitely not taking Ulrich seriously when he said he would buy her a new car. It was a brand new black SUV-the year's latest model. She couldn't help feeling like his prostitute driving it around town.
Roads were covered in ice. Most people were still out shoveling or blowing it away.
Apparently, one of his so called 'friends' wanted to get rid of it. Ulrich had him drive it over the same day. Olga doubted it was ever used. There wasn't dust or signs of wear anywhere.
"Shit," she whispered. In the heat of her bitter thoughts, the tires skidded. "Woah!" she shouted as the car hit a deep pothole. The front right tire popped.
She sighed, turning on the four-way flashers, an old autoshop was right off the road. Her heart froze seeing a tall dark-haired man jog in her direction.
"Olga! Olga!"
Should I just go back in my car? she thought.
She watched a few other men leave the autoshop as if to rescue her from threatening danger.
"Do you work here?" she asked in utter shock.
"No, our pack hosts fights in there. It's our business. Think of it like a boxing ring. Come on inside while my guys fix up your tire."
She could hear many voices coming from the run-down building. It was old, but there were many cars in the parking lot. She relaxed a little seeing a young couple exit the building sipping warm drinks.
Once they walked inside, Olga waved nervously at Sashka. They bypassed the ticketbooth and entered the garage. A large netted ring stood elevated above the ground. There were at least fifty people smashed into the tight space. Long ago, Olga guessed only three cars fit inside the garage doors. It was cramped and smelled like dirty feet and vomit. She could hear loud barking.
Up above in the ring, a large grey wolf, and a slightly smaller red wolf, circled each other. Most of the noise was coming from outside the ring. People waved money, screamed, and threw trash at the netted wall of the ring. There was a tall wooden stack of plywood that formed a better view of the fight. There was glass around the enclosed space. A teen appeared to be controlling the lightworks inside and managing the sound. An older woman stood beside him yelling numbers and names into the microphone.
"Cool, right?" Jax yelled over the chaos.
Jax lead her closer to the ring. The sounds around them became white noise as she felt her bite mark pulse. Across the room, right on the other side of the ring, a tall man with red eyes and white hair stood observing her. Olga had to remind herself Jax didn't know what Ulrich looked like.
She needed to tell him what had happened.
Her heart raced as he turned away.
"Jax! Wait!"
The dark-haired man already had vanished out of her sight. Anxiety set her heart into overdrive. She still wasn't completely used to walking with both her legs. She bumped into one too many people, beer spilled on her lap as she tumbled to the ground. The drink was freezing making her shift in surprise.
Olga was too small to really see where she was going.
She whined sharply as werewolves accidently bumped, or kicked her, it made her scamper quickly through the crowd. Eventually, she found her way back outside.
Ulrich stood by her car having shifted in his wolf form. He lowered his head, his red eyes piercing her soul, "Where going? I want to know why you want to leave so soon," he said in a mocking voice.
Jax had smelled the alpha on Olga.
The plan was going very well. He darted out of the autoshop to face the feral head-on. Olga jumped out of his way as he barrelled by her.
She yelped watching Jax snap his jaws viciously at Ulrich. Both the werewolves were huge, but Ulrich had the advantage. He blended in easily with the snow. However, he decided to shift to catch the alpha off-guard. He kicked Jax in the neck violently. Jax whined sharply backing off as Ulrich shifted back into a wolf.
Olga screamed at how fast and merciless Ulrich acted. He tore his long canines into Jax's stomach.
"Ulrich, no!"
The alpha listened to Olga's surprise. He whined sharply as Jax used the moment to bite down on his leg. The white wolf's fur stood on end. A low hair-raising growl left his jaws warning the pack to keep its distance. They were already flooding out of the building. All Olga could hear was the whines in between his growls. Her heart hammered as she ran over to Ulrich.
Instinct made her curl up below his standing body.
Jax narrowed his eyes at the feral with growing suspicion.
"So, you're the one who turned her?"
A deep chuckle left the white wolf's throat. He sensed his mate's worry. Ulrich circled his tail protectively around her when Jax tried reaching a paw in her direction.
Ulrich laid over her letting his mate lick, and heal, his new wound. The action would speak for itself.
His voice commanded attention, "You are alpha of Frost Lock. I am alpha of...mill yard. Let us become friends-"
"You are the one letting your wolves mawl and turn the humans! You've been raising animals and letting them fight in my ring against their will!"
Ulrich raised his snout. "No," he argued calmly, "I have seen that spell fall over my own. There is a warlock behind it. I help you find him so long you promise no harm on my pack."
"Warlock?" Jax sneered, "Bullshit! We'd know if magic was going around by now."
Ulrich loved feeling his mate loyally heal him. Her tongue was so soft and warm. She already finished healing his limb. He nuzzled her belly, appreciative.
Go with him, Ulrich told her.
Embarrassed, Olga crawled out from beneath the shadow of Ulrich's chest.
"So you will trust me," Ulrich spoke, "I leave her in your hands. Go to trailer park. Warlock is living there."
"Do you a have a name?" Sashka barked.
"Aster."
Jax growled while picking Olga up by her pelt. Her heart raced as Jax unleashed his wolves on Ulrich without warning.
At least ten wolves circled around the lone alpha. They took turns taunting and yapping in Ulrich's face. More wolves joined the ring. They begin barking and growling in low gutteral tones. Olga's heart raced hearing her mate bark viciously as each dog had its go with him.
Jax stepped forward. She swayed in his hold. He must have given them some unspoken single.
They all closed in on Ulrich.
Olga screamed hearing his sharp growls. Fur of all shades got tossed up in the air along with snow. It looked like Ulrich was having some kind of violent dance with them.
One hound went sailing over her head and landed on its back on the frozen parking lot. Olga shuddered hearing the crunch of bone. Jax turned toward the unmoving wolf.
"Fernando!"
Olga swung in his hold as he turned back to the fighting crowd of wolves. Bernard currently was being dragged backward by the ankle while his other pack members gnawed on Ulrich's legs. Others bit down harder on Ulrich's white pelt of fur. It had turned a dark shade of red having been ripped up and split open where skin hung raw.
The snow was growingly turning red.
Olga knew she shouldn't care, but she still swooned over how strong her mate was...even if he did look like the 'devil wolf' Jax's pack currently was calling him.
"Enough!" Jax spoke out loud, "Disperse!" he commanded at their lag of obedience.
Blood was heavy in the air. Ulrich was happy to hear his mate whining for his sake. He watched Jax set Olga down and waited patiently for her to return to his side.
She didn't.
Ulrich wouldn't beg. He had the ferocious strength of an animal, but he had exhausted his energy, and collapsed onto the ground, after facing the mite of Jax's pack. He did snap his jaws when they made the smallest wolf in the pack drag him across the ground by the neck. Jax knew it would be humiliating for the asshole.
"Where are they taking him?" Olga hurried out as Jax followed.
"The den."
