Ghost
Cap woke up to someone prodding her shoulder with a very pointy finger.
"Shrimp. Get up." Avery hissed.
Cap blinked, her hair sticking up and out every which way and her blue eyes framed by smudged purple liner from the previous night's event. Avery noticed with some amusement that she was wearing a t-shirt with cartoon penguins on it.
"What's going on?" Cap murmured.
" Cosimia gave birth."
That perked Cap up enough for Avery to physically drag her out of bed and down to the enclosures. Cosimia, a female Hellion, was Cap's favorite, and the first one she had ever ridden. Currently, the 800 pound feline was wrapped around a roly-poly ball of black fur, with one flash of white in the middle.
Cap gasped and rubbed the sleep from her eyes.
"They're beautiful!" She whispered, trying her best not to wake the occupants in the other stalls.
Cosimia examined Cap for a moment, then nudged around her litter until she found the runt. Picking the white kitten up by the scruff, Cosimia placed the little one as close to Cap as she could manage without getting up. Cap smiled and gave the hellion a thumbs up. "I'm going to go in. Cover me." She said, and slithered inside before Avery could catch her.
"Shrimp this isn't professional!" Avery called.
"Neither is wearing flip-flops to a charity event." Cap shot back.
Cosimia watched patiently as the human edged towards her kitten. She knew that Cap posed no threat, and was unbothered about her rider touching her little ones.
Cap stared at the runt, who squeaked and mewled as she searched for her mother. Carefully, Cap lifted the baby and tried to put her back with the other cubs, but Cosimia bared her teeth whenever the runt was brought near, until Cap beat a hasty retreat with the kitten in her arms.
"I think she just rejected the baby." Cap murmured, struggling to hold the 32 pound squirmy kitten.
"Nah, hellion mothers just figured out early on that they can pawn their kids off onto us humans." Avery said with a chuckle. "They do that a lot with the runt of the litter. Anyways, I think she wants you to have the kid."
Cap looked down at her new charge.
"So.. do I get to name her?" The kitten wailed and crawled into a more comfortable position, with her paws resting around Cap's neck.
Avery nodded.
"Yeah. You get to name her."
Cap smiled and rocked the kitten like a fussy toddler.
"I'm gonna name her Ghost. Since she's so pale." Avery snorted and almost went for a cigarette before remembering that he was supposed to quit, and had therefore chucked out all of his cigarettes.
"Ghost it is then."
