Chapter 14
The sun is starting to rise when I get a knock on my door. My chair almost falls over when I jump over it. I swing the door wide open and see two wheels attached to golden legs. I take a few large steps out of my room and look at a still scuffed-up Sunstreaker.
"Your alive!" I exclaim.
"The cons can't take us down that easily." He smirks.
"And Sideswipe?" I ask, closing my door behind me.
His smile falls, "Barely. The blast hit him hard. Ratchet was able to stabilize him once he got me awake. But he is still in stasis for now."
"It's better than being dead." I say hopefully. Not mentioning that I'm the one who suggested Ratchet wake Sunstreaker first.
"That is true. I can feel him, but I can't talk to him. I hope he wakes up soon." he says, looking down the hall towards the med bay.
"I'm sure he will. Have faith. How is everyone else doing?" I try to change the conversation.
"All are up now. Sideswipe and Prime are the only ones still out. Jolt is finishing grounding the last few now." He explains.
"So, I can be near you now?" I ask, holding back a laugh.
"Ratchet told me you came to check up on Sides. And how he yelled at you to leave and stay away from us. But I know you touched me. How come you didn't get shocked?" He looks down at me, raising a brow ridge.
"I didn't know you'd be able to feel me. I don't know why I didn't get shocked." I know exactly why.
"I heard you too. You do care." He kneels down and whispers with a smirk on his face.
"I never said I didn't." I whisper back. "Now go back and be with your brother. He needs you."
"Come with me. He needs us both." I'm in shock as Sunstreaker puts his hand down, waiting for me to climb on.
"Never thought I'd see the day." I say out loud.
"You are the only human I will do this for. Mainly because you aren't human." He brings me up close to his face as he speaks to me.
"We've been over this. I am human." I reiterate, rolling my eyes at him.
"And you know I don't believe you." He mutters.
He doesn't let me reply and starts skating towards the med bay. I held on tightly to his thumb. Fearing for my life as my hair almost falls out of its bun. I try not to scream, but it is difficult. We are at medical in what feels like seconds. As we come to a halt, I remember why I shouldn't have been scared. A part of me wishes those fears could be real. Sunstreaker rolls into the bay, right up to Sideswipe. He places his servo next to the table and I carefully crawl off.
"He looks so peaceful." I say quietly.
"It's so unlike him and as much as I wish he was silent more often; this is not how I wanted it." Sunstreaker admits.
"I agree with you." I say, looking over the soundless twin.
I can see his face more clearly now. The indent I saw earlier is bigger than I thought it would be. It passes over his optic, over his 'nose' and to the other side down his cheek. There is another one climbing down his torso. It starts in the middle of his chest and goes down straight. I wonder if it hurt when the blast hit him. Hopefully he wakes up soon. I can see the pain in Sunstreaker's face as he look down at his silent twin. I walk over to Sideswipes servo that is resting next to him, placing my hand over his finger.
"Please wake up." I pray for him.
I can feel Sunstreaker watching me. His optics burn into my soul. If I had one. I mean I must still have one if I'm still here. Maybe because I'm still here, means there is something I can do. But what is the question.
"Does Ratchet know what is wrong with him?" I ask, looking up at the other twin.
"He thinks the blast may have messed with his processor. His spark is fine, for the most part. Ratchet is trying to get Prime awake. They are in surgery now. Then maybe Prime can wake Sideswipe." Sunstreaker explains.
"What kind of surgery?" I look back over to Sideswipe.
"Scrap if I know. I'm not a medical officer." He points out with an aggravated tone.
"Jeeze, sorry." I grumble under my breath.
I send Sunstreaker a small glare. He scoffs back and looks away from me. I turn back to Sideswipe, gripping his finger tightly. My hand doesn't even cover it. My fingers intertwine within the little wires and metal. I hold tight afraid he is going to slip away from me. Then I feel a warmth from within me. It grows inside my chest, making me feel something I haven't felt in a long time. Then it moves up through my body, passing down my arm to my hand. Then as it passes over to Sideswipe, I flicker. Fear courses through me in that moment. The emptiness fills me for a moment. What is to become of me is only coming closer.
"What was that? What just happened?" Sunstreaker freaks. Then he attempts to pick me up and his servo goes right through me.
I look up at him, my mouth opens in shock. "I don't know." The words barely make it past my lips.
I'm barely able to hold myself together again as he makes another grab at me. He brings me up close to his face. Inspecting me, trying to figure out what happened. We both freeze as a groan echoes throughout the medical bay. Sunstreaker snaps his optics to his twin. I try to turn around and look, but Sunstreaker has a tight hold on me. I grunt and he looks back at me.
"Do not say anything. To anybody." I stress.
"Where am I?" A tired voice says below me.
I give Sunstreaker a look. Reminding him to stay quiet. He looks unsure of himself. Probably fighting with himself. But he seems quick to come to his senses and gives me a short nod. Then he slowly sets me back on the table next to Sideswipe. Sideswipe brings his servo up and starts to rub his face.
"You're in the medbay." Sunstreaker finally answers his brother.
"How did I get here? What happened?" Sideswipe asks, then tries to sit up.
"Don't sit up yet. You've been out for a few hours. The blast hit you pretty hard." Sunstreaker puts a hand on his shoulder, pushing him gently back down.
"What is the last thing you remember?" I ask, making my presents known.
"Hart! You're here too." Sideswipe says in surprise. Again, trying to sit up.
"Don't move yet, Ratchet needs to look over first." I say, taking a step forward.
"That was so weird." Sideswipe says laying back down.
"What was weird?" I ask, looking him over.
"Well after the blast hit me, everything went dark. I was here, but I wasn't. Then more electricity shot through me, but I still couldn't wake up. I could hear voices, but they were jumbled. Didn't make sense. Then a weird warming sensation traveled through my body and suddenly I'm awake. I was stuck, then unstuck." Sideswipe explains.
He brings his servos up and looks them over. Inspecting the left more delicately. His optics gazing over each digit until he stops at the one I was holding on too. I internally pray he doesn't know I was gripping it. I glance over to Sunstreaker, who is looking down at his brother. He is also thinking hard about something, but I have a feeling it's about me. I'm not sure how I was able to bring Sideswipe back. I'm more scared of the way I flickered when the warmth spread over to silver speedster.
"My digit looks different." Sideswipe finally says, still looking at his digit. Turning it over and over.
"Maybe it's actually clean." Sunstreaker scoffs, crossing his arms, but his anger isn't meant for his brother. I can feel it.
"You might be right. Did Ratchet give me a bath?" Sideswipe asks, trying to look the rest of himself over. "Whoa, gnarly scar."
"You should see your face." Sunstreaker grunts.
"Not my face. I need that." Sideswipe whines, touching his face, feeling for the other scar.
"Don't worry about that now. You'll be fine. Is Ratchet out of surgery yet?" I ask looking around the room.
"Probably not, he's been in there a few hours now." Sunstreaker gives a soured answer.
"Surgery? On who?" Sideswipe questions, turning his helm to the side, optics searching.
"Optimus." Sunstreaker comments like its something everyone would know.
"Prime?" Sideswipe shrieks, "He wasn't that close to me."
"He was right in front of you when the blast hit. Ratchet is digging around his cranium. Hoping to get him awake." Sunstreaker snapped.
"Damm, that's scrap. But Ratchet is a genius. He will get Prime awake and moving in no time." Sideswipe boosted.
Just as he finished speaking, the doors to the surgical room smash open. Ratchet storms out, his footsteps shake the room and I fall over. Sunstreaker's servo rushes behind me, hitting me in the back. He then slides me away from the edge and closer to Sideswipe's thigh. I look over to Ratchet and he has stopped in his tracks, staring at the wide-awake patient.
"Hiya, Ratchet." Sideswipe says with a giddy grin.
"How are you awake?" Ratchet asks, the words coming out like a growl.
"I have no idea. I just woke up to Sunny and Hart's lovely faces." Sideswipe says cheerfully.
"Don't call me Sunny." Sunstreaker brings his servo back, ready to smack his twin.
"Do not! He is still my patient. Only I can do that." Ratchet says, giving Sideswipe a smack on the helm.
"Hey! I'm injured." Sideswipe exclaims.
"Someone going to tell me how he woke up. He was practically dead when I left him." Ratchet ignores the whines coming from Sideswipe.
"No clue. We came to visit, and he just woke up." I answer. Unsure if I trust Sunstreaker to talk.
"He just woke up?" Ratchet asks unconvinced.
"Exactly. He said he felt stuck, but then was unstuck." I repeat what Sideswipe explained to us earlier.
"I don't buy that. What did you guys do to him?" Ratchet accuses, pointing to both Sunstreaker and me.
"Nothing! I swear." I say half the truth. Sunstreaker stays quiet.
"Get out of the medbay, so I can look him over. I still got to finish Optimus." Ratchet orders.
Sunstreaker is quick to pick me up and rush us out. He skates out the door as they slam shut behind us.
