2- Have you ever been to detention?

Detention was not and is never fun for good kids. The first time he was given a detention slip he was too furious to be scared. He had said some not so pg-13 rated words to a teacher about three years ago.

The teacher had given him an F on his biology test. It was also the first time he and Rachel fought. This was not his second nor was it his third time in detention and he was sure this was not going to be his last time in detention.

He walked into the room with a smile on his face, apart from his friends before he became a player, these two were the ones who didn't treat him any different. They understood what he was going through because they all had their gray stories.

The three of them got along fine. They hardly talked to anyone but themselves in detention, so seeing them talk to Jade was shocking. He approached them with a slightly confused face.

"Hey guys, I see you've met her." He said as he kept his bag on the floor and his butt on the seat, he could have sworn he saw her roll her eyes.

"Yep, I met her in history class and introduced her to Carter in detention. She's pretty fun." Tori replied with a rare smile on her face, her dark blue hair was packed in a bun matching the black clothes she wore, Alexandre sometimes wonder how she survived during the summer.

"Have you guys met before?" Carter asked looking and pointing at the both of them curiously, unintentionally showing the bracelets he got from his mum after she died.

Dre sighed nodding his head as he reached for his phone in his bag and helped Carter adjust his long sleeves.

"So how did you guys meet?" Carter asked now stuffing his mouth with gummy bears.

"It's a long story," Jade replied trying to dodge the question while playing a game on her phone.

"We have all evening. It's not like we're asked to do anything here." Tori shrugged as she placed her fist under her chin.

"You know the dude I told you was assigned to be my tutor?" Jade asked as she started her story still playing her game, Tori and Carter nodded at her question, "well, he's the one. The end." She shrugged not looking away from her phone.

Tori and Carter turned to Dre, waiting for him to say his side of the story, "She's the girl from biology class, the new student." He said waiting for them to process the statement.

He had told Tori and Carter about the bet a few days back, they didn't support the plan fully but they didn't try to stop him when he insisted on winning it.

"Seriously?" Carter asked while Tori said, "oh Lord," with her palm on her forehead.

"What?" Jade asked pausing her game.

"Nothing." The three of them said at the same time making Jade's eyes question them. When she didn't get any get reaction from them, she ignored it and turned back to her game. Tori looked at him, her face full of disapproval while Carter avoided his gaze by concentrating on his gummy bears. Dre grunted and sank into his chair.

"So how long are we going to sit here?" Jade asked a few minutes after sitting in total silence.

"Till like 5..." Carter said looking at his wristwatch.

"No, I mean this..." She paused for a second looking at the three of them, "... I don't know, awkward air?"

"What did you do?" Dre asked seconds after no replies from his friends.

"What do you mean? I'm not the one who-"

"No I mean, why are you here? Detention?" He asked cutting her off.

"Oh."

"Oh? My words don't tell me you killed someone." He feigned surprise looking at her with palm on his chest.

"Calm down nerdy," she said making Dre raise his brows at the sudden nickname, "I'm too young to go to jail."

"So what happened? This is detention, we all made mistakes. Trust me, as long as we're here together, no offense is greater than the other. " He offered smiling making her roll her eyes and eye him.

"She gave a teacher the middle finger," Tori replied before Jade could find a way to avoid the question.

"Mr Benson?" He asked with a deep sigh as Tori and Jade nodded.

"How do you know?" She asked with a raised brow.

"He's the only racist teacher we have or at least he's the only one that shows it." He replied with a shrug.

"So hit me, what did he ask you?"

"How many white kids did I beg from in Africa." She whispered chuckling.

"Hey, you're not allowed to take Benson's words to heart." He tried to comfort her and place his hands on her shoulders.

"First of all, don't ever touch me, " she said as she removed his hand off her shoulder, "secondly, I was thinking of ways I could have handled it better."

"If it helps, he deserved the middle finger." Carter finally voiced while opening another gummy bear pack.

"Thanks, and since we're stating our opinions, you realize you take too much sugar for a guy, right?" She asked looking at his gummy bears as he stuffed his mouth with another handful.

"Why are you here, Dre?" Tori asked meeting her lips into a thin line.

"I wasn't paying attention in class," he shrugged resting his head on the table.

"These days I wonder if they give the passes because they have issues at home." Tori shook her head with an eye roll.

"What you did was not even that bad," Carter supported her, "you think you're a bad boy, huh?" Carter poked Dre grinning.

"Right? He's just an idiot who uses girls to satisfy his sexual desires." Tori scoffed slapping the back of his head, her blunt self coming out, she was always quick to make her opinion known, that was what earned her detention most times and what also made Dre want to distance himself from her.
As annoying as she was, she was still the first person he talked to after his breakup, they've been close since then and he'll probably owe her that till eternity or college.

"Thanks, Tori, you're still as nice as ever." Dre glared at her as she mouthed, "you're welcome." Earning a middle finger from him.

"You keep complaining about me, what about Carter, he's only here for sleeping in class," Dre whined pouting.

"Why would you sleep in class? It's Monday." Jade asked looking up from her phone.

"Bartending is hard darling, you'll be surprised how many people visit on Sunday nights." He shrugged still eating his gummy bears.

"Is that even legal? You're like seventeen at most eighteen," Jade stared at him intensely, waiting for him to tell the truth.

"I know someone and I have a fake ID," Carter said taking another bag of gummy bears from his bag.

"So why are you bartending in the first place?" Jade asked trying to ignore the bag he just brought out.

"I owe a little money, just a tiny little amount." He showed her a little pinch.

"How much?" Jade brows were now raised.

"Hundred..."

"Oh that's no a big deal, if I give you ten bucks for ten days you're good--." Jade started offering, making Dre and Tori look away from their words exchange.

"Thousand." He finished saying making Jade choke on her spit.

"How-- wait a minute. Are you joking? Who would lend a teenager that much?" Jade's eyes were wide as she processed his words.

"It was an online site, I was only going to borrow ten thousand but I accidentally clicked zero."

"What about your parents, do they know?"

"Just dad and of course he has no idea, don't worry though, five thousand more and it's complete." He smiled at her.

"Oh, that's good to know."

"If you don't mind my curiosity, how did you spend a hundred thousand dollars?" She raised her brow looking into his hazel eyes as if she was waiting for a lie.

"I didn't spend the whole thing, I'm not a kid," he eyed her playfully, "I only spent like seven thousand dollars and it was for something personal." He tore his gaze from her and focused on his snack.

"How did you spend--" Dre's palm on her hand stopped her question with Tori's head shaking, asking her to drop the question.

It took Carter weeks to tell truth about how he spent the money, it was the first time Dre saw the sad side of his jovial persona. He had tore his mask off as he broke down to tell them about his mother's death and the debt he had anonymously paid for his father. His brown hair was messy as he rubbed his face and hair whilst Tori and Dre paid attention and tried not to offend him.

The next day he was as happy as ever, Dre can never tell how he masks his emotions so well, it was almost like he never gets mad which was troubling to Dre as he can never tell if he offended him or not.

"Damn, I wish I could help." Jade voiced later.

"Quiet delinquents!" The teacher's voice boomed as he barged in the room making them face the board and ending the conversation.
