THE ICE TWINS and other books by S K Tremayne
A year after one of their identical twin daughters, Lydia, dies in an accident, Angus and Sarah Moorcraft move to the tiny Scottish island Angus inherited from his grandmother, hoping to put together the pieces of their shattered lives.
But when their surviving daughter, Kirstie, claims they have mistaken her identity—that she, in fact, is Lydia—their world comes crashing down once again.
It has been a few years now since I read this book though it is one which has stayed with me. The Ice Twins is the first of four books I've read by Sean Thomas writing under the name S. K. Tremayne though it actually is the second of the four to have been released. He also writes under the name Tom Knox and he mainly writes archaeological/religious thrillers under that name.
I have yet to read anything under the Tom Knox name, but I have read all four S. K. Tremayne books, which also include The Fire Child, Just Before I died, and The Assistant. The Ice Twins was a real page turner for me, anytime while I was reading it, if I had put it down, I just wanted to pick it back up and continue on with it.
Losing a child must be one of the worst things imaginable, to lose an identical twin at seven years of age and have the surviving child make the claim that she is the child you assumed had died, if that doesn't freak you out first of all then add in other complications that this story surely has, and you have one heck of an unmissable read.
The Fire Child and Just Before I Died, if by chance you didn't know before hand, are stories clearly written by the same person as is the writing style though neither of these two books really got me riled up like The Ice Twins did. The Assistant sees S.K back at his best. Imagine your home system, Alexa, or whatever it may be, knows your darkest secrets and tortures you with those secrets ... this is The Assistant, another read I found difficult to put down.
As it is, The Ice Twins is without a doubt a top five book for me of what I've read during the last five, even ten years, and I'd struggle to keep it away from the number one spot.
