INTRODUCTION AND SHADOW & BONE

Since I have zero readers and even fewer visitors to my little corner of the universe, this right here is basically a futile undertaking but what the hell? I'll probably have fun with this even if no one ever reads it and, in a way, this will probably mark itself in a manner as much as a diary would. So, that is good enough with me, and with that thought ...

Today, as I currently write, it is the twenty second day of April 2021. What I'll do here is probably mark what I am currently reading, what I have been reading, what I plan to read along with going on about what I am watching too, but programs most likely relating to what I am reading or have read or will read. As well as that, I probably will go on about what I am writing and so on and blah, blah, blah ...

Speaking of which, about a month ago, I hit the reset button on my Wattpad writing. I had many, many postings ... short stories, novellas, and a number of novel length stories. I have been basically, as most people do on Wattpad, posting as I write. Quite a bit of what I had written had been edited at some stage over time.

Some stories had been edited a lot, some had been a little and some had not been edited at all. I thought, what the hell ...? Instead of debating what I would edit next and so on, I deleted everything or rather I took it down so as I edit or re-edit, I will post again. Some of what was, will be binned but a lot will come back plus anything which had been unfinished will become finished ... anyhow.

As I mentioned already, as I write it is Thursday the twenty second day of April 2021, the day before the Netflix series Shadow and Bone is to be released ... more on that in a bit.

My reading so far through the year was quite slow for the first three months though April up today's date has been a different story. In those first three months I read 11/22/63 and Later, both by Stephen King, Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline and Past Mortems by Carla Valentine, a book with the tag-line life & death behind mortuary doors ... more a documentation or the recall of a life experience than anything else - a heck of an interesting read. More on those another time ... probably.

April has been busier. So far this month I have read The Thursday Morning Murder Club by Richard Osman and Dark Matter by Blake Crouch as well as two books relating to the previously mentioned upcoming new Netflix series.

Shadow and Bone is the first book of a trilogy by Leigh Bardugo, a trilogy which is followed by two duology collections all set in the same universe. Either and both of the duology's can be read separately. Six of Crows is the first book in the first duology.

I had been hearing a lot about Shadow and Bone and Six of Crow, more Six of Crows than Shadow and bone then I hear about the Netflix series. The Netflix series will focus on Shadow and Bone though will include characters from Six of Crows, and the Six of Crows characters will apparently be used in a prequel fashion, their stories will be new and pre what happens in Six of Crows.

From what I have seen both books are very popular and in some cases Shadow and Bone has been getting let's say ... looked down upon a little. They are YA fantasy novels and I absolutely hate Pidgeon-holing stories. I hate the idea that stories are being directed at a certain kind of audience. I believe that holds back stories in general more than anything else.

Anyhow, not one for YA stories, I still kinda had an interest in these stories so I got and have read both Shadow and Bone, and Six of crows and nothing else in either series yet though I plan to. After completing the trilogy and duology, I will decide if I will acquire the second duology ... I'll see.

In the remaining days of the month, I will be picking up the book The Midnight Library by Matt Haig before deciding exactly what I will be read next. I'm looking forward to The Midnight Library, it's fairly short so that will probably be a single sitting read or two day read depending on how my day or days go.

Back to Shadow of Bone. I was expecting that Shadow and Bone would not be for me. I do like fantasy stories though if I had to announce a favourite genre even with a dislike of labelling stories I would be more into Horror and Science Fiction. S&B was alright, in my opinion, not fantastic but not bad either.

My main problem with it is that not enough happens and it also skips over a bit of time such the likes as two characters are together and the story will move on by stating a week later rather than having something happen within that week and this is probably why or at least half the reason why they are bring characters form Six of Crows into the series, it will have to make up enough to fill a season even with the fact that I believe it is only eight episodes long.

It is decent enough for me to look forward to the series. I won't be binge watching in a day or even over a couple of days, but I will get through it even if I feel it might not live up to what it could be ... I shall see ...

Will I keep this little project up? ... as in keep adding to it ... I hope so.
