IF YOU WRITE IT ... THEY WILL COME ...
Excuse me ... what was that? Just who are they exactly?
Last day of May 2021 and reading was a bit on the slow side this month as was my writing but what the hell, right? It's not like anyone is paying attention or anything else to either anything I put here or elsewhere on Wattpad, ah well.
For me, reading for the month began with a bit of Stephen King. Carrie ... had yet to read this prior to now despite being a King fan and being well aware of the movies and so on. Not his most well written book but still, what a way to begin an awesome career. Carrie being book one of however many books he has written or published to date. Continued on then with Andy Weir's Artemis. Read his book The Martian back in 2017, had Artemis on a shelf for quite some time now and with his new book Project Hail Mary (which I don't have a copy of ... yet) released this month I thought ... why not ... so Artemis it was.
Third read of the month was The Future of Another Timeline by Annalee Newitz, I am obsessed with time travel and this book did not let me down, swiftly followed by a read of an original series Star Trek graphic novel, one I had previously yet to read. To finish out the month I began but not quite completed (but will in the coming couple of days) The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse.
This is where I love the likes of Amazon. In a bookstore recently and I saw The Sanatorium priced at approximately fourteen euros. I had already acquired this book from Amazon at a cost of five pounds which translates into about six euros, so who loves a good book deal? ... I do.
Speaking of Amazon, book deals and Star Trek too, this morning there was the arrival of my latest book haul. In recent times there have been various new iterations of new Star Trek on the go including the show Discovery. I have plenty of Star Trek graphic novels but before Discovery came along, I had only ever read one actual Star Trek novel. To aid my enjoyment of a new show I began acquiring the Discovery novels upon each release.
The eight Discovery novel got its release last week and arrived this morning. I have read each of the previous seven books as soon as they arrived and they each proved to be easy to read and quite enjoyable too, probably to the point where the books are actually better than the show. Star Trek Discovery as a show has been somewhat disappointing in my opinion but I'm still a fan and I'll keep watching ...
Being a Stephen King fan too, as I have also mentioned a few times now, I also acquired the book Lisey's Story. A lot of his works have been coming to screens over the last few years, they have for decades actually but more prevalently so over the last few years, and Lisey's Story gets its screen debut as a series from Friday June fourth. I have yet to read this book so I will do so before I sit down to watch the show.
In my arriving book haul I also received the Hyperion omnibus by Dan Simmons, two books in one – Hyperion, and The Fall of Hyperion. Next, I have yet to read any Neil Gaiman so to rectify that I have acquired Stardust, ease myself into his writing and see how that goes. Then in this arriving bundle if mine, I have Elantris by Brandon Saunderson. This apparently is a standalone, for Brandon has plenty of series on the go so it may be nice to get through a story of his that does not require multiple reads though I do believe it may be in the same universe so to speak of his other works, possibly more on that as time goes on.
Talking (or writing about book series) my final two purchases from this book hall are parts of separate series of books. Iron Angel is the second in a series of three books by Alan Campbell, I've had book one Scar Night for some time and now that I have book two, I have no excuse to put off book one much longer, other than the books I really wanna get through first.
Then there is Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds, the first book in a series of four and I have also been wanting to get to this too though happy enough to leave it for a while. I seen a brand spanking new copy on Amazon for two pounds, two pounds, that wouldn't translate to two euro fifty if even that, so this had to come to my door too.
So, there is plenty to keep me going but a reader can never have too many books, ... well maybe they can though it is better to believe the former and not the latter ...
