Chapter 3
Flower couldn't believe it. The wildcat had ripped off her collar like a piece of grass. She was glad she had not been strangled, obviously, but her collar had been ruined! Even worse, when her housefolk had seen the collar, they had locked her inside. She wanted to go outside and find that kit, say she was sorry she had called him stupid and fought him, and maybe be friends.
Luckily, she knew a way out of the house. Unfortunately, her housefolk were in the room next to the way out. But Flower knew how to get her housefolk out of that room. She jumped on the table and knocked over a plate, spilling food everywhere. The shiny thing that her housefolk used to bring food to their mouths made a thunderous clatter on the smooth floor.
Her housefolk came rushing into the kitchen, fully unaware of Flower sneaking past them into the bathroom, ignoring the smell of dirt. She squeezed through the open window, and ran. Flower headed towards the forest, speeding from her garden and over the fence. She headed towards the place she had chased the kit, and slowed to a halt once she was near it. She stalked towards the place, being careful. She smelled cats, and for a second she was scared they would be able to smell her, but then she realised that, if she could smell them clearly, they wouldn't be able to smell her, unless, of course, the wind changed.
She knew this because she had creeped up on rats and mice before, but the wind had been blowing from her to them, so they had ran away from her without even taking a look at what was behind them. If I could only get that cat alone, she thought, and not have to deal with any full-grown cats on the way, then everything would be easy. We would turn into friends, and he would take me to the others, and get me a good reputation.
Flower shifted her weight to her hind paws. She continued stalking forward. She heard a voice behind her say, "Hello again." She whipped around, and saw the grey cat .
