Nature Boy, a version for my friend...

There was a boy,

A very strange, enchanted boy

They say he wandered very far, very far,

over land and sea.

A little shy, and sad of eye

but very wise, was he,

---

There was a boy,

A very gentle, tender boy,

They say he wasn't theirs to love, theirs to love

as he wasn't straight.

and so they turned, their backs to burn

a bond of love, for faith

This wonderous boy,

who lost his many friends one night

They say he wasn't good enough, good enough

in the eyes of God.

a soul so brave, to seek a way

from what was known as home.

There was a boy,

who had to leave his life behind,

They say he was a fool and blind, fool and blind.

that his love was wrong

a beating heart, their stare so hard

and yet he stays so strong.

---

I never knew, until one day,

One lucky day he passed my way,

and while we talked of many things, fools and kings,

This he said to me:

"The greatest thing, you'll ever learn,

is just to love, and be loved in return"

This poem is my own version of the very famous song Nature Boy, which is a personal favorite of mine. A lot of things can be read into that lyrics, and the first and second part of this poem is original - except for the words "I never knew" which I wanted to add as to not make the transition weird between the verses. The rest I've added after a very heartbreaking conversation I had yesterday with a friend.

To preserve his privacy I won't make a public dedication, but hun, you know this is for you! <3

The most important thing to note, however, is that this is very personal and that the person who I wrote this for has chosen not to judge those around him. Therefore I ask you not to judge either. Comments I believe to be judgemental in any direction will be removed for the sake of my friend.

Thank you for reading.
