Chapter 2: Diagon Alley and The Burrow

CHAPTER 2: Diagon Alley and The Burrow

There was Sister Amelia and Sister Sarah sitting with shocked, yet disgusted looks on their face. 'So Dumbledore must have explained it then.' Violet thought as Sister Amelia sneered at her as she walked in. “I always knew therewas something wrong with you. The Devil's spawn, like I said.” She snarled at her. “Shut up! Don’t call me that!” Violet yelled throwing her trunk to the floor. “Don’t disrespect me young lady.” Sister Amelia said in a sweet voice. “I hate you and I hate this stupid orphanage!” Violet let her feelings out, that had been bottled for a long time, since Harry left. “Everything was fine until Harry left! I just want to get out of here!” She kept yelling, while the lights were flickering above their heads. “Violet, calm down. Why don't you go say goodbye to your other friends?” Dumbledore said motioning to the door to the sitting room.

“Okay, sorry sir.” She said in a small voice and walked into the other room. Immediately, she saw Abbey watching the television with a sad expression. “I take it you heard?” Violet asked sitting down next to her. “Yeah. I'm happy for you, but I'm also sad that I'm loosing my best friend.” Abbey said looking down to her lap. “I know, and I'm sad I'm loosing you, but I promise I'll write and text you. Well, as soon as I get an owl.” Violet laughed. “You better get a black one. Oh, and with a with a white chest!” Abbey exclaimed laughing too. “Alright. I'll look for one.” Violet smiled. “Abbey, did you know that when I first got my letter I thought you had written it? And then when Dumbledore showed up, I yelled at him to get out because I thought you hired him.” Violet said recounting the events of earlier that hour.

No way! I cant believe you told Dumbledore he was getting on your nerves!” Abbey laughed when Violet told her the story. “I feel so bad for yelling at him though! I thought he was just really persistent old man.” Violet laughed again. “That is very true. I am a very persistent old man.” Dumbledore said smiling from the doorway. Violet jumped and turned to him. “Oh my- can you not do that?” She asked with a hand on her heart while Abbey laughed.

The Headmaster chuckled and said, “Are you ready to go now Violet?” Violet looked at Abbey and hugged her. “I'll miss you baby sister.” Violet said. They were close enough to be, so they called each other sisters. “I'll miss you too big sister.” Abbey smiled sadly and let go. Dumbledore summoned her trunk and Violet headed to the door with it. “I'll text you as soon as I get to the Weasley's.” She said halfway out the door. “The Weasley's?!” Abbey screeched. “I'll tell them to send you a letter!” Violet yelled back as she walked through the kitchen and out of the front door.

Dumbledore followed shortly after, waving goodbye to the two frowning Sisters. Violet stopped at the end of the small driveway and turned to him. “How are we getting there sir?” She asked. “We will Apperate there. Now, take my arm and I will take your trunk.” She took his arm and a strange tugging sensation pulled her away from where she had stood and pushed her onto a new spot. Violet fell on the ground and fought the urge to throw up, closing her eyes and breathing deeply. “That was... horrible.” She said standing up and steadying herself. “Yes, it takes a while to get used to. But we're here, so follow me and you'll meet who is going to stay with you while you buy your supplies.” Dumbledore said walking through a busy street in muggle London. Violet had no trouble keeping up with him as he had shrunken her trunk and she was carrying it in her pocket.

She followed him all the way to a small bar that would usually go unnoticed by regular people, knowing it was The Leaky Cauldron. They entered the shoppe and all eyes turned to them. “Ah! Headmaster! Would you like anything?” The small man at the bar asked. “No, I'm just here with this young lady to get her ready for her schooling. Has Severus arrived yet?” Dumbledore asked looking around the bar. If she didn’t already have a stomachache from side-Apperating, she did now. 'Snape?! He's the scariest teacher at Hogwarts!' She thought.

All of the people in the bar laughed at her and her face became red. “Did I say that out loud?” She asked quietly. “Yes, you did.” A lone sullen voice answered and her eyes became giant. “Why me?” She squeaked. “I'm sorry Professor Snape.” She said in a small voice again. “Lets get your supplies.” He said monotonously ignoring her statement. “Well Severus, I'm going to leave you with Miss Violet now, goodbye.” Dumbledore spoke, then Apperated with a 'pop' out of the bar. “Lets go.” Snape said shorty, walking out of the back door as Violet followed. He tapped on some of the blocks and the passageway to Diagon Alley opened. “This is Diagon Alley, but first we will have to go to-” “Gringotts bank, sir. I know.” She said proudly as he looked astounded. “How did you know that?” He asked. “Uh- T-The Harry Potter books sir.” She replied. “Books? What books? And how do they know about the Wizarding World?” He asked. “I-I don’t know! I didn’t write them. I just read the and I know all about Harry Potter and his friends and times through Hogwarts.” She replied slightly frightened. “Harry Potter hasn't been to Hogwarts yet.” He replied quietly. “When we are done shopping you will show me these books.” He said and turned to go to the large bank.

“I'd like to open a vault.” Snape said to the Goblin that was sitting there. “Do you have a key?” The Goblin drawled not looking up. Snape wordlessly placed a key on the desk that Violet couldn’t see over and the Goblin looked down at her. “Ah. Follow me.” He muttered something that sounded like 'black'. They went down in the fast-moving cart and she almost threw up for the third time that day. She stumbled out of the cart as the short Goblin was unlocking a giant door. “Your vault, Madame.” He said and stepped aside to reveal a pile of gold in the center of the vault. Violet stepped in with a little shove from Snape and grabbed a few handfuls of the gold.

Violet and Snape set off in pursuit of her supplies, looking over the list. “I will buy your books if you go to Madame Malkins to get your robes.” Snape offered. “Okay, do you need the list?” She asked holding it out. “No. I memorized them.” He said and turned away to head towards Flourish and Blotts. Violet headed to the small robe store and waited for her turn behind a short boy with blonde hair, slicked back. The boy her age turned around and looked at her.

“Hello. I'm Violet.” She smiled and stuck out her hand. “I'm Draco Malfoy.” He smiled and shook her hand. “Is this your first year at Hogwarts too?” The little boy asked. “Yeah. I honestly didn't think Hogwarts actually existed until today.” She smiled back at him. Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say because his face dropped into a slightly sad one. “You're muggleborn then?” He asked with the hint of a sneer. “I- well. I don’t really know. I was raised in an orphanage. I never knew my parents.” She looked down, tears forming in her eyes thinking of her parents. “Oh, I-uh. Sorry?” he said unsure, and she looked up and smiled slightly. “Thanks. Its okay.” She said quietly willing the tears to go away. “Next.” A sweet voice called signaling that it was Draco's turn. “Bye.” He smiled and waved as he disappeared into another room. She stood and waited until it was her turn and Draco had left the store.

Once she had paid for her new robes and gone back out Snape was already waiting for her. “Now you need your wand and a pet if you want one. I have gotten everything else.” He said holding up the bags and cauldron. “I'll take those Professor.” She said reaching out and taking them from him. “Lets get my wand, then I would love an owl.” She smiled and took off at a run to Olivanders leaving him behind. No one noticed, but the corner of his lips turned up slightly at the sight of the excited girl and he followed her. By the time he got there she was already waiting for Olivander to come and give her a wand. When the old man came out with one she picked it up eagerly and gave it a small wave. Light seemed to flow from it and a warm sensation was swept around her. “This is the one. I can feel it.”

She smiled. “Yes, Ebony, 10 ½ inches. Very supple, and with a dragon heart string core. A very nice wand indeed.” Mr. Olivander smiled at her. The wand was black with light brown swirls and twisted lines running along it. “Here you go Sir.” violet smiled placing a few coins on the desk. “Thank you.” She said and walked out once again in search of the pet store. Snape now followed close behind her and pointed out the store with the owl's in the window over her shoulder, startling her and making her jump back right into him. “Oh, sorry.” She muttered in embarrassment and walked at a quick pace to the store. Snape raised his eyebrow and walked after her again once more not wanted to lose the small girl in the sea of people. She entered the store and began looking for her perfect owl. Soon, in the back of the shoppe she found it. An all black, sleek owl with a white stomach. The owl was a girl and if an owl could smile, she definitely would be, you could see it in her eyes. 'This is my owl.' Violet thought as she picked up the cage. “Is that the one your buying little lady?” The man at the counter asked. “Yeah. Her name will be Lynx.” Violet said with a smile handing over the money for her owl. “Alright. Have a nice day!” The man waved and went to serve the next costumer.

Violet laughed and walked back out where Snape was waiting again. “That owl is beautiful.” Snape said looking down in the cage. “Thanks, I know she is. My old friend and I always said we wanted an owl like this.” She smiled sadly down into the cage. He didn’t smile or frown, keeping a straight face he placed a hand on her shoulder for comfort. She was surprised beyond belief but smiled widely up at him. “Thank you.” ,was all she said and he flashed her a quick, small smile that was gone so fast she wasn't sure if she saw it in the first place.

“Lets go discuss these books you were talking about earlier.” He said as he walked back to the entrance to The Leaky Cauldron and they found a seat as he ordered them each a butterbeer. “Okay, so what are these books called?” Snape asked. “Well, there is a different title for each one, but they all start with 'Harry Potter and...'” She explained. “How many are there?” Snape asked. “There are seven in all. They explain Harry, his friends, Hogwarts and the teachers, you are in them by the way, and Voldemort.” She finished and he winced slightly. “Oh sorry. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.” She corrected herself. “And where did you read these books?” Snape asked watching her carefully. “I have the set. Do you want to read them?” She asked bulling them out of her trunk. “Yes. I shall take these and bring them back when I am done, as for now, you will not speak to anyone but Professor Dumbledore about this knowledge until I say so. Okay?” He asked as if she had a choice to say no. “Okay Professor.” She smiled back at him. 'Well, he is officially my new favorite teacher.' She thought and he raised an eyebrow. “Did I say that out loud again?” She asked, her cheeks heating up. “Yes you did.” He responded. Violet fought the urge to burst into laughter, but contained herself to a small giggle. “Oh, I must be getting you to the Weasley's now. “ Snape said standing abruptly. “Do we have to Apperate again?” Violet asked, not hiding the fact that she didn’t want to. “Yes, I'm sorry. But we do.” He said reaching his arm out to hold onto hers as he Apperated them outside of the Burrow where Molly Weasley was already waiting.

Violet couldn’t help but stagger backwards and throw up into a bush this time. “Ew.” She muttered with a face of disgust and looked at Snape. “This is why I don’t like Apparition.” She said. And he shook his head. “Come and talk to me after the Sorting tomorrow and we will talk. My classroom is in the dungeons.” He said and left with a loud pop. “Hello Violet! Come inside, do you have a stomachache? I'll fix that right up.” Mrs. Weasley smiled and led her inside. “Thank you Mrs. Weasley.” Violet smiled and took the potion she was handed. “Its quite alright dear, now come on. I'll introduce you to the family.” Mrs. Weasley lead her into a medium sized room and went over to the stairs. “Percy! Fred, George! Ron! Ginny! Come down here!” She yelled up into the house. Violet sat on the couch and heard a thundering of footsteps coming down the stairs. “Ow, George, don’t push me.” A female voice said. “Sorry Gin, but Fred pushed me first.”A male replied. Soon, Violet found herself surrounded by redheads. She already knew all of their names, but she had to act like she didn’t. “Kids, this is Violet. She is staying with us until you go off to school tomorrow.” Mrs. Weasley introduced with a smile. “Hi Violet. I'm Fred, and this is George.” Fred introduced. “Okay, Fred. George.” Violet said pointing at them both. “I have to remember that.” She said trying to imprint them into her mind. “I'm Ron.” Ron smiled. “I'm Ginny.” The girl said and Violet smiled at her. “And I'm Percy.” The eldest boy introduced himself. “Hello Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny.” Violet said smiling at each one of them. Somewhere in the greeting Mrs. Weasley had left the room.

“Hi Violet.” They all chorused back. “Oh wow. That was creepy.” She muttered. A small 'ding' was audible in the silent room and Violet reached down into her pocket as the rest stared at her. Violet pulled out her

IPhone and saw a text from Abbey. 'Have you seen Fred and George yet? You better kiss one of them!! Or you could even do you-know-what with one of them ;) Haha.' Violet laughed and the rest of them were looking very curious at her. “What is that?” Ron asked. “Oh, its a cellphone. Its a muggle thing. You use it for talking to people who aren’t in the same place as you. You can call or text them.” Violet explained. “See, my friend just texted me.” She said. “What did she text you?” Ron asked and Violet's face got red. “Nothing.” She said quickly turning around, but she was ambushed by two twins and they stole her phone away. “No! Fred! George! Give it back!” She screeched running around after them. “'Have you seen Fred and George yet? You better kiss one of them! Or you could even do you-know-what with one of them.'” George read out. “What is that little mark?” He asked Violet, who was currently sitting on the floor, defeated. “If you turn it sideways it's a wink.” She muttered. “Oh, So... What is you-know-what?” George asked sitting next to her, while Percy was apparently the only one who got it and was having trouble standing he was laughing to hard. “Oh my god, George you're clueless. You. Know. What.” She hinted as his face stayed the same, a confused look. Finally, Violet sighed and exclaimed, “It means sex!” throwing her hands up. All eyes except Percy and Violet's widened. “Oh.... ahahaha!” Fred started to laugh. “So your friend wants you to kiss us and.....haha.” He laughed. “Eleven is too young to think about those things!” Percy reprimanded. “I know... and she's eight!” Violet laughed.

Everyone now laughed and even Percy chuckled a bit. “George, give me my phone. Now.” Violet demanded. “Hmm, how about....no.” He said and threw the phone over to Ron where it beeped once again. “New text from Abbey.” Ron read. “Lets see what it says... oh...” Ron said, face turning red. “Ron. You probably already know this, but Abbey has a thing for you.” Violet said laughing at his reaction. “What does it say?” Ginny asked grabbing the phone from Ron. “'And let me do the same to Ron. He is a sexy piece of man if I've ever seen one.' Oh my.” She laughed. “It looks like you've got an admirer Ron.” Ginny laughed and handed the phone back to him. “How do you work this thing? I want to text her back!” Ron said and Fred and George jumped up and went behind him. “I can't believe I'm doing this. She will have a fit.” Violet murmured to herself and went over to them.

“Why don’t you just call her? Here.” Violet dialed in Abbey's number and its started to ring. “Is it supposed to do that?” Ron asked Fred in a hushed voice and Violet laughed. “Yes Ron.” She said.

Hello?” Abbey asked over the phone. “Hi Abbey. I loved your texts. And so did the Twins and Ron.” Violet laughed. “Violet! You weren’t supposed to let them read it! But, are they as hot in real life?” Abbey asked and everyone burst out laughing. “Abbey, you are just digging yourself a deeper hole. They are on speaker, you dummy.” Violet said. “They're there?! Why didn’t you tell me?! Hi everyone!” Abbey yelled into the phone. “Hi Abbey!” Everyone said back. “Oh, shoot. I have to go, Sister Amelia is coming. Sorry guys, talk to you later Vi.” Abbey said quickly and hung up.

“Who's Sister Amelia?” Ginny asked. “One of the people who works at the orphanage. She...doesn’t like me, to say in the least.” Violet said. “She hasn’t liked me all my life, and now I realize that it's probably because she knew I was a witch.” Violet said thinking back. “What do you mean she doesn’t like you?” Ginny asked. “Well, she would always blame me for things I really didn’t have control over. And she would just 'overlook' the other kids calling me names.” Violet said wondering if she could trust them enough to tell them about the beatings she received. Deciding she could, Violet went on. “And sometimes it would go as far as... beating me. They hit me over something I had no idea about.” Violet said with tears gathering in her eyes.

Percy was surprisingly the first one to move and pulled her into a hug. “Its okay. You're here now, and we wont let anyone hurt you.” He said hugging her tightly. She nodded and sniffed a bit before he let her go and she smiled up at him. “Thank you Percy.” She said wiping her eyes. “Yeah Vi. Were all here for you. You're an honorary Weasley now, whether you like it or not.” Ron said giving her a side hug. “Thank you all. I'm so glad I met you.” Violet said with a smile. “We are too, now come on. Mum probably has dinner waiting.” Ginny said giving Violet a reassuring smile. “Okay, lets go.” Violet said smiling and they all walked into the small kitchen. “I was just about to call you in. Here's dinner, and your father should be home soon.” Mrs. Weasley said as everyone took a seat. “Dig in dear. You must be ravenous.” She smiled and looked at the food in front of her. “This looks wonderful Mrs. Weasley.” Violet said before she started to eat.

Soon after they eat, Mrs. Weasley sent them up to get ready for school the next day. “You'll be sharing a room with Ginny. If that’s alright?” She asked when she sent us up. “That’s perfect. Thank you for letting me stay here.” Violet said smiling. “Anytime dear. You are a part of our family now.” Mrs. Weasley replied with a smile.

Later that night, Violet woke with the same nightmare she had last night. She got up and walked down the stairs, going quietly into the kitchen to get a cup of tea. Violet had to walk through the sitting room to get there though, and there were people already up. “Oh, Violet. Why are you up so late?” Mrs. Weasley asked, standing up. “I just had a small nightmare. It's no big deal.” Violet shrugged. “Are you sure? Well come on, since your already up you can meet some people.” Mrs. Weasley said bustling Violet into the crowded room and sat her in a soft arm chair. Violet was introduced to some people from the Order of the Phoenix.

Once her mind was already reeling with so many people, she now got to meet Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks. Though she was almost bursting on the inside, Violet had to keep a cool composure on the outside without blowing the cover of her knowledge. Violet immediately wanted to get to know the two better and smiled largely at them, then she realized that they we're going to die after getting married and having a baby, and her smile faded. “Are you okay?” Tonks asked. “Yeah. I-I'm okay.” She muttered, her nightmare coming back for no apparent reason. Violet looked down at her lap as tears welled up in her eyes once again. “ Violet. Whats wrong?” Remus asked, putting a had on hr shoulder. Violet flinched violently away and curled up in the chair. “I-I'm sorry...Mr. Lupin...” She said uncertainly. “I didn’t mean- I um. I d-don’t know!” She cried out sobbing into the man's arms.

Soon Violet had cried herself to sleep, with the help of some people from the Order helping, and Remus carried her back to her bed, going back down to discuss what had happened. “Why did she just freak out like that?” Tonks asked. “She's eleven. Her mind is a little askew right now. She has just discovered that she is a witch. That alone has to be somewhat traumatizing in itself, and she doesn’t now her parents either.” Remus said logically. After a bit, everyone cleared out because it was late after two in the morning.
