Violet woke with a start from her usual nightmare that reoccurred every few nights. Today was Sunday July 31th , Violets 11th birthday, but being in an orphanage isn’t the best place to celebrate that.
“Come on Vi! Wake up!” Abbey, one of her only friends, yelled throwing a pillow at her.
“Alright! Calm down.” Violet responded, looking for her glasses on her nightstand. When she found them, Abbey was already halfway out the door calling,
“Hurry up! I have a surprise for you!” Violet rolled her eyes and sighed.
How is she always so happy in the morning? She thought to herself, pulling on a 'Gryffindor' hoodie with the sleeves rolled up and shorts, considering it was the summer. Violet had her dark brown hair pulled back in a pony-tail and her slightly circular glasses that matched Har- No. He's gone. His family took him away. Stop thinking of him. She thought holding back tears.
Violet made her way downstairs to the sitting room wondering where Abbey went, when her friend popped around the corner throwing gold and red confetti at her.
“Happy birthday!” She yelled hugging Violet.
“Thanks Abbey.” Violet giggled. “Love the confetti.” She added. Well only the best for the witch getting her Hogwarts letter today!” Abbey joked.
Violet rolled her eyes. “Oh, I wish! Imagine me! I would cause absolute havoc at Hogwarts!” Violet laughed.
“Trust me, I know! Well, come here and see your cake! I made it myself.” Abbey said stepping into the kitchen.
They stepped into the kitchen and Abbey revealed a cake that was, obviously decorated by the 8 year old, all the Hogwarts house colors with a plastic name in each house.
Harry Potter in Gryffindor, Cedric Diggory in Hufflepuff, Luna Lovegood in Ravenclaw, and Draco Malfoy in Slytherin.
“Oh Abbey! I love it!” Violet cried throwing her arms around her best friend. “Thanks! I knew you would.” Abbey smiled. “Let me take a picture before we eat it.” Violet said taking out her I-Phone and snapping a picture. “Alright. Now lets dig in!” She exclaimed getting two plates for them and a knife to cut it.
“I want Hufflepuff! Cedric is my man!” Abbey laughed. “Okay, go ahead. I'm gonna have a big piece of the Boy Who Lived.” Violet said smiling.
Once they were done, Violet cleaned up the cake and plates, washing them so there was no reason to be yelled at this morning.
The people at the orphanage didn’t like her much because strange things sometimes happened around her. It wasn’t Violet's fault that the little boy fell and broke his arm after calling her a freak. Or when she got angry, something broke, like the first time she got called Satan's Spawn, the plate Sister Amelia was holding shattered in her hands.
Violet went to a Catholic orphanage, and because of the strange happenings, she was considered the bad one who the kids shouldn’t be friends with, and they listened, but still tried not to make enemies with her since bad things happened to her enemies. So since she was about five, all the people stopped hanging out with her, all except for Abbey and a little boy named Harry who lived down the block.
Violet and Harry would always go down to the park together, to escape from their own hell into a new world. Harry's aunt and uncle didn’t like him much either, so they were on the same page. The two were the best of friends, and being the same age, they were in the same grade at school, where Harry's cousin, Dudley, would always try to bully them. They were exactly the same age, having their birthday on the same day. They first time they met, Violet had been so nervous to make a new friend she messed up the greeting.

Violet and Harry were both four and at the park near their homes.
She saw Harry on the swing and walked up to him.
“Hi. I'm Harry.”The little boy introduced himself.
“Hi. My name is Purple. Like the color Violet.” She said proudly, and the little boy giggled “Wait! No!” She cried. “My name is Violet. Like the color purple.” She corrected herself.
They both looked at each other for a second, then burst into laughter, and from then on they were best friends, and Violet had a new nickname, for Harry always called her Purple.

But a few months into summer this year, Harry's aunt and uncle didn’t let him see Violet anymore. After he had left Violet was sad for awhile, having lost her best friend for years, but she met Abbey, who had been there for two years now, and got introduced to the Harry Potter novels.
She thought it was a coincidence that Harry Potter and her Harry had the same first name. She never did know her Harry's last name, because they never talked about it. That subject was touchy when it came to Violet because she didn’t know her own last name.
Abbey got Violet hooked on the books and soon she became just as obsessed with them as Abbey was.
Abbey had long blonde hair down to her bellybutton, where as Violet had dark brown, slightly curly hair that went to her shoulders. Abbey also had brown eyes, while Violet had bright blueish-green eyes. The two girls were polar opposites but they got along just fine.
The only thing neither of them realized, was that Abbey was just a replacement for Harry to Violet. Violet needed a friend and Abbey was there, but they weren’t as good of friends as her and Harry. But Abbey, being only eight, didn’t realize, and Violet never had the time to think about it, either playing with Abbey, or running from getting beaten by the Sisters of the orphanage for something none of them could explain, took up most of her time as an ten year old, now eleven.
“I'll see you when I get back Vi.” Abbey said putting on her coat and walked out of the room to go to church, which was mandated by the Sisters, every Sunday. But Violet had refused vehemently every time, so they had given up trying to make her go, just leaving her at the orphanage alone every time where she would usually sneak out and see Harry.
Today was different though. Violet could feel it, and it wasn’t just because she was spending her birthday alone for the first time in years. Something was going to happen and she couldn’t tell if it was going to be good or bad.
Violet sat alone in the kitchen, eating another piece of her cake when she heard a small scratching noise at the door then the mail-slot opening. Eyebrows furrowing, she got up and checked it. There's no post on Sundays though. She thought to herself as she picked up a letter that read,
Miss Violet
Saint Mary's Orphanage For Girls
Number 18 Privet Drive
The Third Door On The Right
Little Whinging
Surrey
Violet almost burst out in laughter at the extent that Abbey went through for her birthday. But it was a thoughtful gesture and it did look pretty authentic. She probably had one of the older girls write it, Abbey got along with people better than Violet did.
The letter had the Hogwarts crest imprinted on the back as she was careful not to tear it, wanting to save the nice gift. Unfolding the paper that was written beautifully and smelt like old parchment and ink, was an amazing experience. Reading the 'first years requirements' was great too. It was like she was reading her own Hogwarts acceptance letter.

Violet was touched and put the Hogwarts letter up in her room, which was the third door on the right, in her nightstand where she would know it was safe. Violet walked back down the stairs and got out her I-Phone, singing along to whatever song came on, which just so happened to be 'Follow Your Arrow' by Kacey Musgraves.
Violet was dancing around the siting room alone, or so she thought. She had no idea that an old man with a long white beard had just appeared outside of the window, watching her amused, over his half moon glasses.
He knocked on the door, interrupting her dancing/singing session. She sighed and walked to the door swinging it open. “Hello?” she asked confused.
“Hello Violet.” the man greeted warmly.
“I- I- wait, what?” She stammered. “D-Dumbledore?!” She whispered, disbelievingly.
“Yes. I am Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts. I can only assume you already know that though.” He smiled.
“I- uhm. Hahaha.” She realized and laughed “You were hired by Abbey weren’t you. Wow, that girl is good. First the letter and now a Dumbledore look-alike. That girl is good.” Violet said shaking her head.
'Dumbledore' smiled, but didn’t say anything. “Okay...Dumbledore what are you dong here? Come to take me to Hogwarts are you?” she asked sarcastically, having no idea that he was in fact the real Headmaster, and would later be apologizing profusely for disrespecting him.
“I am. But I am afraid we will have to wait until the Sisters get back to go.” He said, aware that she thought he was a fake.
“Oh okay. Want something to eat or drink while we wait?” she smirked walking back into the kitchen, not waiting for him to follow.
He chuckled and followed her. “I would love some tea if you have any.” He said sitting at the island. Violet shrugged and pulled out the tea kettle heating up water for the old man. As she was making their drinks, she decided to quiz him.
“So, Hogwarts. Who are you hiring for Defense Against the Dark Arts this year?” She asked placing the cup in front of him and taking a sip out of her own.
“Professor Quirrel will be filing that position.” He said. Violet almost choked on her tea.
“Oh that’s wonderful.” She coughed as he looked questioningly at her.
“Are you alright Violet?” He asked her as she recovered herself.
“Yeah, I'm fine.” She said absently.
Is it possible that he could be real? She thought for the first time. No, no. Its impossible. He's a fictional character. Abbey hired him and filled him in on it. She argued in her head.
“So Albus.” She addressed him with a smirk. “What is your full name?” She asked.
“My full name is Albus Percival Wolfric Brian Dumbledore.” He said without having to think and she widened her eyes with shock.
“How did you know that?” She asked incredulously.
“Well it is my name.” he mused.
“Yeah, right.” She looked at him suspiciously. Dumbledore laughed and drank his tea.
“So, if I do go to Hogwarts, where will I stay until term begins?” She asked loosing herself and actually wondering.
“Why with the Weasley's of course.”
“The Weasley's? As in Fred, George, Ron, Ginny?” She asked.
“Yes, I don’t know any other family with the same surname in Hogwarts, though Ginny and Ron haven’t entered yet. He will this year and Ginny next year.” Dumbledore said smiling.
He smiles too much. Violet thought with a small scowl. She hadn’t smiled that much since Harry left.
Thinking of this, she asked, “And I assume Harry Potter is coming to Hogwarts this year too?” Already knowing the answer, she drank more of her tea, beginning to get a headache. “Yes. Hagrid should be getting him soon tonight.” He responded.
“Of course.” she rolled her eyes, having already read this in the book.
“Sorry, excuse me.” She got up and grabbed the bottle of headache pills and taking two.
“May I ask what you just took?” He looked interested.
“Its pills. For a headache.” She replied. “Okay. This is getting old. If you're not really here to take me to Hogwarts can you please leave?” She asked, her bad mood appearing out of nowhere. When he didn’t move she sighed exasperatedly. “I think I asked you to leave.” She said rudely.
“No, you said if I'm not here to take you to Hogwarts I should leave. Hence why I did not leave.” He said still sitting there. Violet glared at him.
“Listen. I don’t know who you are, but you are really getting on my nerves. I know Abbey hired you, and you can leave.” She said, slamming her hand down on the table.
“Actually, you do know who I am. You are just choosing to not believe it.” Dumbledore said lightly, ignoring her bad behavior.
Again she sighed, annoyed. “Prove it. If you are really a wizard, prove it.” She said glaring at him again.
“As you wish.” He said, and the cupboard behind her opened and a cup flew out and landed in front of the two. Violets face was one of pure shock.
“Y-You're really Dumbledore?” She whispered.
“Yes, I told you that.” He whispered back and chuckled.
“Oh my... I am so, so, so sorry for being rude sir. I didn’t know. I thought you were a fake! I- You don’t know how bad I feel Professor!” She rambled on. “I wa-” She started again before being cut off by his hand silencing her.
“Its okay Violet. I understand.” He smiled.
“I still am very sorry.” She said quietly.
“As I said. You are very much forgiven.” He smiled again.
She was silent for a minute and then it finally clicked in her head. “So... Hogwarts is real then? And-and Harry Potter really defeated the Dark Lord as a baby? And you're Headmaster? And-” She rambled on until getting cut off once more.
“Yes, all of what you are going to ask, yes.” He smiled.
Violet, despite her recent switch to a good mood, scowled lightly again. “Why are you always smiling like that?” She asked narrowing her eyes.
“Is it bothering you?” Dumbledore asked.
“Little bit.” She replied. His face became a scowl and her eyes widened.
“No, that’s a bit scary. I like the smile better.” She said quickly, frightened of the seemingly angered man. His face returned to its normal soft features and she relaxed. “That’s better.” she murmured and he laughed.
The sound of a car was very distinguishable in the driveway and Violet began to get excited, excited that she wouldn’t have to be in the awful house much longer, excited she was getting to go to Hogwarts, but also slightly sad that she would have to leave Abbey.
Well, I can always write or text her I suppose. She thought with a smile as Dumbledore sent her to pack all her things in a trunk he got for her.
Violet left to let him explain that she wasn’t indeed a freak, like they all thought, but a witch.
Violet packed all her things, which wasn’t much, checking twice over just to make sure she didn’t leave anything important behind, then grabbed her Hogwarts letter out of the top drawer of her nightstand and walked back into the kitchen.
