Chapter 3: A Timid Butterfly & Straight Forward Dragon
The Next Day
It was the next day and the airships that were arriving at the docks to take in coming first years to Beacon were beginning their boarding procedures. Meanwhile, you were walking with your arm around Yang as your head was hung low and ached.
"I shouldn't have drank last night..." You groaned as Yang carried you and yours AND her bags.
"You're still new to the game, don't bag yourself. Besides, I think we have more pressing matters..." Yang said in a nervous cold-sweat as Tai and Summer were both walking behind you with scary aura's coming off them as they glared at the two of you.
"And WHEN were you both planning on telling us...THIS?" Tai asked as he breathed fire down your neck and you yelped in nervousness as your tail wagged in nervousness.
"Umm...Christmas?" Yang said unsurely.
"IT'S SPRING!" Tai and Summer both yelled she flinched from their reaction.
"Look, things lead from one thing to another...And while we were at Signal together, I kinda stopped looking at him as a brother and more of a guy that I was interested in...I mean, as long as there's love, right?" She asked.
"Yeah...As long as there's..." You were cut off when you felt Tai's eyes burn through the back of your skull as he placed a firm hand on your shoulder.
"Do ANYTHING to hurt my little sunflower, I don't care if we raised you...I'll cut your tail off and make you eat it...got it?" He said with a scary smile as you hugged your tail in fear.
"Y-Yes, sir..." You said in fear.
"Ah...First we find out Ruby's being moved ahead a few years, and now this? God of Light, what did I do to deserve such a family?" Summer rubbed her head as you made it to the boarding lines where large amounts of first years were gathered. "All right, remember to call us when you get there. We wanna know you three made it there safe." Summer said as she hugged Ruby and Yang.
"We will, we promise." Yang said as she and Ruby went over to give Tai a hug while you walked up and hugged Summer as she hugged you back.
"You watch these two. They're unpredictable. Keep your eyes out for each other. Okay?" She said as you nodded and pulled away.
"I'll make sure we stick together...Thank you for everything..." You said as she cupped your cheek and stared at you.
"No matter what you did before, the path you took to get here was the right one. Stay on the path of light, and maybe someday...You'll see your real parents again." She said as she kissed your cheek.
"I hope so, too...But I'll never forget you and Tai either." You said as she smiled.
"Okay, go give dad a hug goodbye." She said as she kissed you one last time.
You walked over to Tai as he reached his hand out and you took his hand as he pulled you in for a manly hug. You embraced each other for a moment before you felt a strange feeling on your tail and yelped.
"Remember, I'll make you eat your own tail..." He whispered as you gulped before he laughed. "Ahaha, just kidding sport. Go train and get stronger, and come back to visit us on your breaks." He said as you laughed nervously.
"I-I will." You laughed a little as you entered a manly embrace for one more moment before you pulled away and went towards Ruby and Yang who were waiting in line for you.
Tai and Summer watched as you left them with their children, and Tai wrapped an arm around Summer as she hugged him while they watched you three go.
"Do you think he'll ever change again...? Back into that thing he once was...?" Tai asked.
"That's why Ruby and Yang are with him...To keep him from going over the edge..." Summer said as she watched you three board the airship but stop to turn as you three waved at them one last time as they waved back. "I know we're not the best parents...But I think we did a good job with our children..." She said as the doors for the ship closed and the winds picked up as the airship took off to Beacon. "Take care, Y/N..." Summer prayed as the ship left.
Meanwhile on the ship, you were kneeling on a seat looking out the window back towards the town as your tail wagged around excitedly. As you watched as the ground grew farther and farther, you heard shuffling on both sides of you and saw Ruby and Yang sit next to you as you turned around.
"Well, there goes home." Yang said as you turned towards Ruby.
"I still can't believe you got moved ahead 2 years. That just shows how much potential you have." You said as you patted her head with your tail and she laughed as she removed your tail from her.
"Yeah well I'm excited and all, but I wish I could've gotten to come with some friends back at Signal. It's gonna suck not knowing anyone here." Ruby said as she stared around the ship and looked at all the different first years.
"Don't worry, you've got me and Y/N. Plus I'm sure you'll make some exciting new friends today." Yang reassured Ruby as she slouched in her seat.
"I hope you're right..." She muttered as you noticed something to the windows on the left side of the ship and got up.
You walked over to the left side that had a wall made of glass for people to see out of as Ruby and Yang followed you. You saw clouds outside the glass before they disappeared below and under the ship you saw all of Vale in its beauty. You pressed your face against the glass in awe as Yang placed a hand on Ruby's shoulder.
"You can see Signal from here...I guess home's not too far from here after all..." Ruby said.
"Beacon's our home now." Yang said to her while patting her shoulder before they heard someone groan.
The two of them turned around to see a blonde boy stumbling about while clutching his stomach before he suddenly began to rush in their direction. Just as he was about to head towards their area though, your tail fell down in front of him and tripped him, causing him to tumble and his face to land near Yang's feet. You turned around in confusion of what happened before you looked down and saw the blonde boy vomit all over Yang's shoes as Ruby sped away from her.
"Oh, gross! It's on your shoes!" Ruby yelled.
"Gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross...!" Yang repeated over and over again in disgusts as she tried to get Ruby to help her and you saw the two of them run around the ship for a while before shrugging it off and staring back out the window with everyone else.
Timeskip, Afternoon At Beacon
The airships began their final descent towards the air docks at Beacon as everyone stared outside the windows in excitement. As the ships landed and docked themselves, the bay doors opened and students began to pile out of the ship and towards the entrance of the academy. As you three were walking off, you tossed away a dirty white rag in disgust as you had unfortunately been made to clean Yang's shoes of the vomit as the blonde boy who did vomit on her shoes ran to the trash can to throw up once more. You cringed from the sight before joining Yang and Ruby and entering the prestigious academy where you came to a stop in the middle of the courtyard.
"Wow..." You all said in awe as you wagged your tail around and looked at the amazing school that was from now on going to be your home.
"The view from Vale's got nothing on this." Yang crossed her arms as Ruby suddenly went into fan girl mode once she saw other people's weapons.
"Oh! Oh! Sis! That kid's got a classical staff! Oh oh! She's got a fire sword!" Ruby was about to rush over to the girl with a fire sword before you wrapped your tail around her to stop her and bring her back.
"Easy there little sister, they're just weapons." Yang said as you planted Ruby next to you and her.
"Just weapons? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! Oh, they're so cool!" Ruby said in glee as you tilted your head.
"What about Crescent Rose? Don't you love her?" You asked as she pulled out and unfolded her large scythe.
"Of course I'm happy with crescent rose...I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people...but better..." She muttered as you raised an eyebrow at her comment.
"I don't think anyone has as cool a weapon as a sniper scythe...?" You muttered before Yang flicked you on the head and pulled Ruby's hood over her face.
"Ruby, c'mon. Why don't you go and try and make some friends of your own?" Yang asked as she removed her hood from her face.
"But...Why would I make friends when I have you?" Ruby asked as Yang took your hand while you rubbed the spot she flicked and she smiled awkwardly.
"Well...Actually our friends are here and we gotta catch up kay we'll see ya, bye!" Yang said as a group of people formed around you and Yang and you were dragged off while yelling as you left Ruby alone in the courtyard.
"Is it alright to just leave her like that?" You asked Yang as she looked at you.
"It's fine. She needs to learn sooner or later anyways that she needs to interact with the people she's going to meet with here." Yang said as you turned to see Ruby talking with some girl in white and it looks like they're arguing.
"It doesn't look like it's going too well..." You thought as you were dragged off.
As time passed and you caught up with some old friends from Signal, you excused yourself to head towards the restroom to relieve yourself as Yang told you to meet with her and Ruby in the ceremonial hall where first years were gathering. After traversing and somehow finding the restrooms and relieving yourself of the filled bladder you once had, you walked out the restroom and fixed your pants before you heard a yelp. You looked down the hall to the right before turning left and seeing some guy pushing a faunus girl against the wall in intimidation. The guy had orange-burnt hair and navy blue eyes as he wore some armor on top of some clothes. The girl however was what caught your attention. This faunus girl seemed to resemble a butterfly or moth of sorts.
"What the hell is this place doing letting a faunus girl like you join? They must be out of their minds." The male student laughed as she cowered against the wall.
"Please...I don't want trouble..." She cowered as he slammed his hand against the wall and made her yelp and shiver.
The sight of this suddenly gave you a headache like a bullet was shot through your skull. Without knowing, your teeth grew sharper and your claws extended out a few inches as your spines glowed a bit. You began to approach the two of them as your sharpened teeth bared and your tail wagged crazily.
"Are these things really a part of you? Can you fly, freak?" The boy laughed as he tried to reach for her wings.
"D-Don't...!" She yelped as she closed her eyes.
Just as he was about to pinch and grab her wings, your hand gripped his wrist tightly as the two of them were shocked by your appearance.
"What the--!" The boy gasped before you growled.
"LEAVE HER ALONE." You growled menacingly as you threw the boy across the hallway with great force.
The boy slid across the hall before staring at you with fear as he hurried to his feet and ran away. You growled lowly before gasping and closing your eyes as you calmed your emotions. Your claws and teeth returned to normal as your spines stopped glowing and you took a deep breath before exhaling. As you opened your eyes you turned towards the girl in need and saw she was in a state of nervousness and flinched and dropped to her butt against the wall when you reached your hand out towards her.
"No, don't worry! I won't hurt you..." You said to her.
She seemed a little nervous at first before staring into your eyes. She didn't get a sense of hostility from you so she slowly reached up and took your hand as you helped her up and her wings fluttered a little before stopping.
"Are you okay?" You asked her.
"Yeah...Thank you..." She said to you as you smiled and nodded.
"It was nothing. No one should be picked on like that, especially faunus. We have to watch each other's backs, right?" You asked as you wagged your tail around.
"Yeah..." She smiled a little as you grew a look of realization and looked at your scroll for the time.
"Are you a first year?" You asked as she nodded. "C'mon, the opening ceremony is about to start! We gotta go!" You said as you took her hand and she yelped when you dragged her along with you. "What's your name?" You asked her.
"S-Sarah...!" She yelled quietly but your very good hearing caught what she said.
"It's nice to meet you, I'm Y/N." You said to her as you ran with her towards the ceremony hall.
As you and Sarah raced to the ceremony hall, the staff outside urged you to hurry as you were the last ones to rush in. After entering through the doors, they shut them behind you as you and Sarah were thrusted into a sea of first years.
"So many people..." You muttered while looking around before feeling someone tug your shirt and you turned to see Sarah.
"U-Umm, I have to meet with a friend of mine...Thank you for helping me..." She thanked you as you smiled.
"No problem. It was nice meeting you." You said as you walked away from her.
After watching you leave, Sarah went on her tip toes and maneuvered her way through the crowd as she tried to find her friend. After turning her head a few times in different directions she spotted a noticeable feature that only her friend had, a set of golden wings and two golden tails. She managed her way through the crowd before finding the person she was looking for and smiling.
"A-Annie...!" She called as she saw her friend turn towards her fully.
Annie was a blonde girl who had golden dragon wings on her back and two tails as a crown on her head resembled a golden dragon of sorts.
"Sarah! Where were you?! I told you not to go too far from me." Sarah's friend, Annie, said as she held her hand.
"Sorry..." Sarah looked down as Annie sighed and patted her head.
"Just don't do it again okay?" Annie said as Sarah nodded. "Gosh, why are you such a cutie?" Annie laughed as Sarah got flustered and blushed.
Suddenly, the crowd was silenced when footsteps were heard from the stage in front of everyone. All the students looked up and saw a professor of the school step forward towards the mic. She had blonde hair and green eyes and wore black, white, and purple clothing along with a pair of glasses.
"Good evening and welcome to Beacon. I am Glynda Goodwitch. From this point on you will no longer be doing simple combat training as you had conducted in your previous combat schools. Here at Beacon we will provide you with the knowledge and skills that you will need to take on any situation that comes, whether that be a grimm invasion, or a mass evacuation. Before we continue on with your first night in Beacon, a few words from our headmaster, Professor Ozpin." Glynda said as she stepped aside and a man came to the stage.
The students all watched closely as the man, who was introduced as Professor Ozpin, take the stage. He had a pale white complexion, silver hair, brown eyes and wore black, green, and dark green colored clothing.
"I'll...keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy in need of purpose, direction. You assume that knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that only knowledge can carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." Ozpin said before taking his leave and walking off stage as Glynda came back to the mic.
"You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow your initiation begins, be ready. You are dismissed." Glynda said as the ceremony ended and everyone began to leave to find their belongings.
"Well, that was boring..." Annie yawned as she stretched her wings and flapped them a little.
"Let's go get out things." Sarah said as Annie noticed her quiet tone and wrapped one of her tails around her as they turned to leave.
"Sarah, I told you already. We're starting a new life here. You've gotta learn to open up and be more expressive. You're going to have to talk to people other than me." Annie said as they exited the building.
"But...I don't know...I thought we'd get away from the bullying, but I just found out that its still going on, no matter where you are..." Sarah hung her head as Annie grew a serious look on her face.
"Did someone come at you? Who was it?" Annie asked.
Suddenly, Sarah remembered the encounter she had with that boy and how you came in between and saved her. She grew a deep blush and dropped to her knees as she shook her head.
"No way! No way! No way!" She said in haste as Annie was confused.
"Sarah? What's wrong?" She asked as Sarah stopped calmed down before smiling.
"No...Nothing." She said as she got up. "I'll try my best this time...And I was fine back then, someone came to help." Sarah said as Annie raised a brow before shrugging and putting her hands behind her head.
"Okay, if you say so. Let's go get our things." Annie said as the two of them walked off to the ballroom where all the first years were gathering.
Timeskip, Night
Inside the ballroom, all the first years were wrapping up their first day at Beacon and beginning to wash up before hitting the sleeping bags. Sarah and Annie both decided to sleep more towards the middle of the area they were in and as Sarah was patting down her sleeping bag, she heard Annie's voice approaching.
"Hey, Sarah! Come meet this guy! He's hilarious!" Annie said as Sarah turned back towards her a bit.
"Huh? Who?" She asked before turning around fully and gasping as a pink hue exploded on her face.
When she stood up and turned around, she was shocked when she saw that the person Annie was talking about was non other than you. You wore only a pair of black sleeping pants and had no shirt or socks on, giving her a full view of your chiseled body.
"Oh, hey! You're that girl I met at the restroom! Nice to see ya again." You smiled as she was flustered.
"N-...N-...N-N--!" Sarah stuttered as you and Annie raised your brows in confusion. "H-HI Y/N! NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN! KINDA TIRED! GOTTA SLEEP! NIGHT!" Sarah said in a hurried tone before cocooning herself in a brown sleeping bag and curling like a caterpillar.
"Huh...Weird..." You and Annie both muttered as you shrugged it off as the two of you talked the night away, ending off a good first day.
