Chapter 2.
pic of Larson above -Iwan Rheon
Aron and I easily picked her up and brought her to the pack house.
Her body remained limp and unconscience. Her wolf face was, although clearly not healthy, still ethereal. And when her eyes were open they were this luminescent green with brown and tints of yellow in the middle and they were gorgeous.
Then my anger pressed in. Who would do this to her? Why would they? What could someone as small and as malnourished as her do to deserve this? Just who is she? A million questions ran through my head as we made our way through the thickets.
We neared the house and Danica immediately opened the door for us. Aron helped me lift her body into the room.
"I got it." I said getting possessive. Aron gave me her hindquarters and took off towards Danica, watching us with wary eyes. I carried her up the stairs and avoided the curious eyes of the pack mates lounging about in the kitchen.
I trudged up the stairs until I reac.hed my room. After walking in, I gently set her down on the bed and let her tail swoop down off the side of the bed.
Danica raced into my room with all her medic care, ready to help.
"Will she be okay?" I asked.
"If I help her then yes. I'll treat her as much as I can in her wolf, but she needs to phase back so I can see past all this fur." She said before setting up an IV by the bed frame . I nodded and walked around aimlessly in the room. Danica grabbed for the wolfs paw and injected it with some clear liquid.
I have a quiet growl. She looked back at me with curious eyes. They soon grew understanding.
"Oh my... Damon I'm sorry. I didn't realize she was your . . ." She trailed off.
"It's okay. Can you force her to phase and will she be ok?" I replied, rubbing my temples.
"Yes. You may not want to stay.." Danica said.
Why would she say that? Like hell I would leave knowing what I know.
I ran to my closet and grabbed a large shirt for her to wear.
"I'm not going anywhere." I said, leaving the white shirt on the bed.
"Alright. Here we go." Danica said. She grabbed an herb out of her pocket.
"Wolfs bane?" I asked backing away.
"No. It's similar but it only force her to change. It's Polapoa.'' She replied and opened the mouth of the she-wolf. She shoved her hand down her throat and made her swallow. All the sudden, her tail grew in and she started to slowly phase.
Danica's hand pressed over her mouth and I had to grind my teeth together. We could hear her bones crackling which shouldn't be happening. Her bones should've glided smoothly back into place, but instead they were rugged and hard; as if they hadn't been used properly all her years of shifting.
I wanted to help her and keep her safe. I hated seeing her in pain and I haven't even known her for longer than an hour and already I wanted to protect her. I want to know her, and understand what's happened to her.
Finally the shift ended. She lay there with long brown hair strewn across the pillow. Her ribcage was easy to spot and her arms were like tooth picks, along with her legs. Her stomach was as if it were being sucked in but I knew she was just malnourished.
"I've never seen anyone so emaciated. She has bruised bones and no ounce of meat on her. The IV shifted out of place so I'll have to fix that," Danica muttered. I nodded and glanced at the frail body.
Her eye lashes were gently closed and brushed against her upper cheek. She was short, and her brown hair looked like silk. Despite her state, she was beautiful.
Danica finally hooked up the IV in the girls arm and stood back.
"Danica, her leg." She nodded and made her way over.
"It's definitely a wolf bite. One from her own pack that's for sure. It almost cut through to her bone. Should heal relatively fast," She said.
"Oh Damon, the shirt." She instructed.
"What?" I asked.
"She's naked?" She replied. I cleared my throat and grasped the shirt, forcing my eyes not to take advantage of her while she wasn't awake for this. I lifted her limp face and put it through the shirt and followed it with her arms.
A sense of possession flared throughout my body. I loved seeing her in my shirt.
Rena's POV
I remembered it pretty vaguely. I was being hunted down by Larson . . . then what after that? I fluttered my eyes open and expected to see my small room.
I was in a bed, but not mine. It wasn't rock hard but soft and plushy. There was a needle in my arm. I sniffed around using my high sense. I then remembered.
I was in the Shadowdawn Pack! I tried to get up, but a pain deep in my ankle made me hiss in pain. I whimpered and noticed I was in a foreign shirt.
Tingles spread through me as I touched the white fabric. I shrugged and saw my foot was wrapped up. I looked around wildly and saw a figure in the corner lightly snoring. He was in a rocking chair with his arms crossed and head pressed against his chest. I couldn't really see his face as his hair was hanging over.
I held my breath and just stared at him, compelled to wake him, but compelled to leave and escape.
Suddenly, he shuffled a bit and rubbed his eyes. Half his face was shadowed so I had no clue what he looked like. Who was he and why is he here? Is he going to torture me for coming into his territory? I desperately hoped not. I couldn't take any more torture.
Stirring, he got up and stretched his arms before walking over slowly. I held my breath and just stayed still. Panic was forming in my stomach as he came closer, but then my wolf whined.
'What?' I asked her.
'I'm not sure . . .' she replied. Was this why she had been so on edge or something?
The man came closer and I could now fully see his features. He had hair as black as coal, and eyes as blue as the clearest skies. He was lean and muscular, emulating authority. He wore a tight black shirt, showing off his masculine figure. His hard eyes gazed over me, scanning.
"My name is Damon. Do you remember what's happened?" He said, his voice rich, secrative, and deep. I nodded slightly, making sure no words came out of my mouth. Tears were forming in my eyes as I remembered how my own brother listened to his mate, Tawnya, and tried to kill me. He tried to kill me! His own sister! His blood! I had survived him though.
"Hey, don't cry!" He said before swiftly walking over and sitting on the bed. I felt electricity shoot through me as I looked into his eyes with my sore and crying ones. What was that?
"Everything will be fine." He said before taking me into his chest and wrapping his enormous buff arms around me. I let silent tears poor out. I felt safe and secure around a complete stranger. I wasn't sure what it was, but it was weird and I felt my walls go up again. He let go and took my hands.
"What's your name?" He asked gently. I gulped and opened my mouth. But no words came out. One last tear flew from my eye. Damon's hand reached up pressed it against my face. He slightly moved his thumb and wiped away the tear.
"Serena." I whispered. "Serena Blackwell." I said one more time in a hoarse whisper. His eyes widened.
"Aren't you the Alpha of Sunscorch?" He asked. I looked away.
"My . . . " I thought about saying brother, but then again, a brother doesn't try to kill you. Humiliate you or hurt you. "Someone else is," I said in a whisper.
"What happened Serena?" He asked again.
"You can just call me Rena.'' I said, trying to avoid the question. He saw right through me.
"Ok, and don't avoid the question." He replied with a gentle smile. I looked around, vividly remembering all that had happened not too long ago. My eyes glistened and I could feel the tears about to come out again. If anything, I didn't want to remember. I was scared he would find me again.
He grabbed my hand and threw me into his chest. "Shhhh . . . it's going to be ok now.'' he said. Panicking at the close contact, I let out a shrill yelp, pushing away at him. I was scared he was going to hurt me, just like the only other man I had in my life.
"Please, don't fight me! Everything is going to be alright!" He whispered, releasing me. I quickly crawled to the bed frame, needing space from him and everyone in the world. Knees to my chest, I hugged myself and tried to catch my breath again.
I panted, studying his face. He looked upset and startled at my outburst. I couldn't help but feel a little guilty for that saddened look on his face.
But he was wrong. He didn't know. They'd stop at nothing to come and find me. They wanted me dead because Larson did. Larson was a lunatic, a crazy, insane person. He would stop at nothing, and would stop at nothing to have me killed or obtained. He was Alpha, and what he says goes.
"You don't need to tell me anything right now. But try and rest. Oh and here." He said handing me water from his nightstand. I just stared at it.
'Don't just sit there!' My wolf cried. I nodded and grabbed it from his hands.
I undid the cap and stared at it intently. I brought it to my lips and let the cool water drip down my throat. I closed my eyes and started to drink faster and faster.
I heard a crackle and saw there was no more water in the bottle. I bit my lip, somewhat embarrassed, but handed it back to him before laying down and feeling tired. I can't remember the last time where I had slept so much.
"You were really thirsty." He said, with a hint of anger in his voice. I furrowed my brows and shrunk back into the bed. I didn't mean to make him mad. That was the last thing I meant to do.
Damon's POV
I didn't mean for my voice to come out so sharp. But it did. She was so thirsty and I was pissed that she was in this condition. She was not well looked after, and that alone drove me insane.
"It's not you. I'm mad that you weren't treated properly," I replied, trying to fix my mistake. I hated how she shrunk back in fear because of me. I didn't want her to fear me.
"I was treated the way I was supposed to be treated." She said innocently.
"No, you weren't.'' I argued. She blinked and her eyes loosely closed.
I sat there for what seemed like hours. She had walls higher than those of China. How was I going to break through them? I had to get her to trust me, but I still wasn't sure how to do that. I'm new with mates and such. I'm an Alpha, no time for females. Now this changes everything.
But one thing that won't change, is that I will get her to trust me. No matter what it takes.
