Chapter 10

Massey loved summer. She loved not having to see Riley and Maya in school every day. And she loved her wonderful boyfriend. Riley and Maya hadn't been a big problem the last few weeks as they had been suspended, but it was still nice not to have to deal with people mentioning them.

Darren Prescott had decided to throw a good old fashioned Texas barbeque for his daughter, her boyfriend, and their friends. It was a end of school celebration. He told Massey she could invite any and all of her friends and Massey had leapt up to start inviting people. Of course Lucas would be coming, so would Farkle, and a few friends from school.

Farkle had gotten the text invite and was a little nervous, he'd never had barbeque before, what if he didn't like it? Wasn't that, like, a Texas no-no? He was trying to figure out a way to ask Massey at Topanga's with Riley and Maya.

"Farkle, who are you texting?" Riley asked.

"Um, no one." Farkle quickly tried to pocket his phone but Maya grabbed it.

"Massey Prescott?" She asked "Why would you be texting her?"

"You're texting Massey?" Riley made her lower lip quiver "After what she did to us?"

"You brought your suspension on yourselves." Farkle frowned "Massey invited me to a end of school barbeque and I'm going. She doesn't deserve everything you've tried to do to her. Trying to break up her and Lucas, getting her in trouble. This little grudge you have with her isn't cute, Riley, it's mean and I'm not okay with it. Give me back my phone."

He tried to grab his phone back, not noticing that Maya had copied Massey's number and sent it to Riley and herself before deleting the text. Farkle stomped out of the bakery sending off a text to Massey that he would love to come to the barbeque.

"Maya, what are we going to do?" Riley complained "Farkle's being corrupted by Massey. We have to stop it."

"We will." Maya smiled evilly "Check your phone."

Riley saw the contact that Maya had used Farkle's phone to send her and her eyes widened as a plan started to form on her mind. Quickly she started to text Massey.

'Hi, Massey. I heard you're holding a bbq. Can I come?'

Riley watched the three small dots appear as Massey started to text back.

'Who is this? How did you get my number?'

Riley paused before she sent another text.

'I'm one of Farkle's friends. He mentioned the bbq and I was just wondering if I could come?'

On the other end, Massey quickly texted Farkle.

'Hey, I'm getting messages from a random number that says they're a friend of yours asking about the bbq? Did you mention it to anyone?'

'Massey, block that number right now! It's Riley and Maya! They stole my phone a little bit ago and must have saved your number before I got it back!'

'Got it, thanks, Farkle!'

Massey glared at her phone and sent Riley and Maya a message.

'Is this Riley?'

'No, this is Blinky.'

'I know it's you, Riley. And no you can't come to the bbq. It's for my friends and family only. Don't message me again.'

Massey blocked her.

Riley looked up from the phone scowling "She blocked me!"

"She can't do that!" Maya scowled.

"Well, apparently she just did."

Maya growled "Fine, we'll figure out where this little bbq is happening some other way then. I have a plan."

"Ooh! I love your plans!" Riley squealed.

"Come on, kids!" Darren Prescott shouted up the stairs "We need to get going if we want the get to the barbeque before your friends."

"Coming, Dad!" Massey pulled Lucas from her room where they had been lounging around, messaging their friends who were coming to the bbq.

They all piled into Darren's car and drove out of town, heading for a private lake nearby, where the barbeque would be held and swimming was available. Massey and Lucas were laughing in the backseat, singing along to the songs on the radio.

They made it to the lake in less than two hours and started preparing for the get-together. Darren would be overseeing the actual barbequing while the kids set up the tables and chairs. People started arriving, Sarah, Darby, and Yogi from school were all there as well as a few kids from the families Darren had met on his base. Farkle arrived and offered them a container of barbeque sauce as a thank-you for the invitation.

By the end of the day, the kids were still laughing at the massive plate of ribs that Farkle had practically inhaled and the adults were chuckling themselves at the sight of the boy who ate his weight and more in barbeque.

"So, Farkle, what did you think?" Lucas asked, barely containing his laughter.

"What do I think?" Farkle cried "I think I've been missing out!"

"That's right you have!" Massey doubled over laughing.

People slowly started to leave as the sun dipped lower in the sky and Massey, Lucas, Darren, and Farkle all started to clean up.

"You don't have to help us, Farkle." Darren had tried to say.

But Farkle had shook his head with a grin "It's my pleasure, really, sir."

Massey had been loading a few folding chairs in the back of the car when her phone buzzed. Thinking it was a friend who had forgotten something and was asking if they found it, she opened the message.

"You don't deserve him."

The smile slid off Massey's face and her eyebrows furrowed.

What will happen next? Who is texting Massey? Until next time!
