Movie Sounds Good
The next day Haley couldn't wait to head to work. She was awake already when her alarm signaled her it was time to get up. Rubbing her eyes, she got up and opened the curtains to let the morning sun in.
„Good morning New York" she said excitedly.
Nobody was there to hear her though, maybe some birds that were singing their usual morning chanson. Haley felt amazing, she was excited to work today, she always was to be honest, but today there was something more, something that tickled under her skin, something that made her all jittery like a little child.
Maybe it had to do with Caroline. Deep down Haley knew it had to do with Caroline, they finally talked yesterday. It wasn't a serious conversation, like sitting down and talking for hours. It was just two girls, who finally stepped on a path that led them in the same direction. That was what Haley was hoping for and yesterday was a good start.
Haley felt like she knew everything about Caroline already, but she also felt like she knew nothing. She was quite good at reading people, that was what she thought and she supposed that Caroline was a person who had a whole lot of things hidden under the surface. Like an iceberg in the ocean, you could only see the very top of it, but you never know how deep it was reaching. That wouldn't stop Haley from trying to get to know her though.
She grabbed her phone to call Layla. It rang a few times, but nobody answered. Layla was probably still sleeping and running late like most of the times. Haley shook her head and giggled, then she stepped outside into the fresh morning air and made her way to work.
Layla was about two hours late today and she had a loud argument with Kate, because she was trying to teach her about responsibility and all that things that Layla was not in the mood to listen to, simply because it was Kate and she couldn't take her serious no matter how hard she tried.
„One day I will strangle her with her apron, I swear" she said angrily, turning towards Haley to help her wash some glasses.
„I know, just always nod and let her rant" Haley smiled.
„She's not even the boss here, someone needs to put her in her place." Layla slammed the glass on the counter. It didn't break.
„Hey! Be careful with the glasses and mugs!" Kate shouted.
She came rushing towards the girls out of nowhere.
„Just leave, don't you have something else to do, Miss I'm-the-boss?" Layla asked sarcastically.
Kate threw her a death glare, then looked at Haley, who just winked and continued washing the glasses. She left then, cursing quietly.
„I hate her" Layla said after a while.
„Let's not talk about her, Lay okay, she's not worth it." Haley smiled widely.
„Oh, I see someone is in a good mood, if I only knew why?" she smirked and bit her lip.
„Shut up, oh my god." They giggled and continued working.
The day went by pretty fast, it was a few hours past lunch break and Haley was waiting for Caroline in vain. She wouldn't be coming over today and Haley felt like she was falling apart. Yesterday didn't seem like Caroline was uninterested and Haley couldn't understand what was happening. She tried to keep it inside, wear a pokerface, keep her cool. It was hard.
That same moment Caroline was rushing into Lily's office in the ‚Fancy' tower. Today was being a hell lot of chaos. Mrs. McKay came back from Europe and she wanted to have all the articles ready, all the photos printed and edited on her table. Everyone knew she would make everyone redo it all over again, because doing a nightshift before the magazine would be printed for release was everyone's favorite thing to do.
„Lily, Lily, Lily! I missed lunch, what do I do?" she said out of breath, leaning against the door.
„Uhm, we all missed lunch today Caroline..." Lily looked up quickly and then focused on her photos in front of her again.
„No, I meant I wanted to see Haley." Caroline smiled when she said her name.
Now Lily looked up and eyed Caroline for a moment.
„Oh, can't you go see her tomorrow?" she asked.
„Well yes, but what if it's too late?" Caroline dropped her head.
„Don't worry, Carr, it won't be too late, I promise" Lily smiled warmly.
Caroline just nodded and smiled then, too.
„So you have to change the photos?" Caroline asked after a minute.
„Yeah, she liked the collection I chose, she just wanted to change the constellation, so no big deal, wanna help me?" Lily smiled.
„Yes, sure."
The two girls looked through the photos and changed the constellations a hundred times, before they thought it was perfect.
„We got it?" Lily looked at Caroline, who just nodded.
Shortly after Caroline and Lily finished the photo pages, Mrs. McKay wanted to see Caroline to talk to her about the autumn collection she needed for the huge autumn cover shooting. She wanted Caroline to choose a handful outfits, mostly Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, these extravagant designer dresses, you only wear for shootings or on the runway.
Caroline was surprised that she was trusted enough to pick out a few outfits, because this was usually Mrs. McKay's job, she always did it on her own, she just knew what would be the best and Caroline knew she couldn't disappoint her. She had to create outfits that would fit perfectly for the shooting and that satisfied Mrs. McKay's representations, which was basically impossible.
„I want mostly shades of beige, maybe a little white and a hint of red here and there. The outfits have to speak for autumn, but also fashion and inspiration, they have to fill your heart with autumn feelings" was what Mrs. McKay had said to Caroline.
„Is there anything else?" she had eyed Caroline up and down, when she saw she wasn't moving, but then she had looked back through the magazine she would be releasing tomorrow morning.
„No, thank you Mrs. McKay" Caroline had said and rushed out, her heart was beating like crazy.
She had quite some time to decide which outfits she wanted to put together, the shooting was only in a month, but it was almost impossible to find outfits that inspire you or give you autumn feelings. Caroline was stressed out already, she panicked a little. She was hoping that Lily had collected some inspiration for the actual shooting, because Caroline would have something for orientation then.
It was early in the afternoon and Caroline decided to call it a day and head home. She didn't have to spend a nightshift for her article, it was finished and apparently it was good enough for Mrs. McKay. She liked the headline. Lily was staying longer though, she wanted to catch up with André, he was the head photographer and responsible for the huge shootings. They were planning the autumn cover shooting together and they had to seriously start planning things and get it rolling. The final ‚okay' belonged to Mrs. McKay anyways and she wanted to be kept up to date, because this was a cover shooting and this autumn issue was the most important.
After Caroline said goodbye to Lily and André, she grabbed her belongings and stepped out of the building onto the streets. She took in a deep breath and tried to push all the thoughts about the outfits to the back of her mind, she had enough time to make it perfect and right now she needed something to clam her down.
She took out her phone and saw it was only 4:23 in the afternoon, perfect time for a coffee. Caroline prayed that Haley was still working and not mad at her, well they didn't have a date or anything, so Caroline made her way to the Starbucks café. She was getting nervous with every meter, she wiped her palms at her jeans and when she saw the green Starbucks sign above the café she couldn't help her lips forming into a smile.
Haley and Layla were just about to head home, they stepped out of the café. Layla stopped and shoved Haley gently.
„Look, that's Caroline" she whispered and Haley's head shot up.
It was Caroline, standing right in front of them, her hands in her parker, her hair blowing in the wind. She looked absolutely stunning to Haley and her heart was going crazy. Haley smiled, she thought she wouldn't see Caroline today and it made her sad, more than she would admit.
„Hey" Caroline said weakly and smiled a half smile.
„Hi" Haley breathed back and shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other.
„We were just heading home though" Layla said and looked between Haley and Caroline, then smiled.
„I uhm, it was very busy at work today, we all missed lunch, so I was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie with me, I have a huge DVD collection." Caroline scratched her neck and waited for Haley to say something.
Haley looked at Layla and then at Caroline, blushing the darkest shade of red there was.
„Layla can come, too..." Caroline said.
„No, no thank you, really, I have things to do" Layla smirked and pushed Haley gently.
Haley looked at Layla once more and then she smiled at Caroline.
„That sounds amazing, I'd love that" she smiled.
„Okay" Caroline said quietly, she was so nervous she could barely stand on her feet.
Haley hugged Layla goodbye and she walked off into a different direction.
The two girls made their way to Caroline's apartment. They were both so nervous, it seemed like they forgot how to make smalltalk, so they walked in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence that you share with someone you have nothing to say to, but it wasn't a comfortable silence either.
Both their minds were going crazy, they were thinking the same questions. Was it the right decision? What should I say to her? If they only knew that they were on the same page.
„So, how was work?" Haley asked after a while.
Caroline turned to look at her with a smile. She noticed that Haley wore her hair down, it was light-brown and it was softly blowing in the wind. Haley's eyes were brownish but also green and they looked so beautiful. Her lips were tugged up in a smile, Caroline was lost.
Haley giggled, when Caroline wasn't answering, it sounded like a melody in Caroline's ears. She noticed that she had been staring for too long, her cheeks started burning.
„It was busy, my boss came back today and it's just pure chaos" she rolled her eyes.
„You are working for a fashion magazine, right?" Haley asked.
„Yes, how do you know that?" Caroline thought for a second, then nodded.
„I remember" she laughed shyly.
Haley laughed as well, she was happy they were talking, they broke the ice and Haley was excited for what the evening could bring.
They reached Caroline's apartment and Haley recognized the beige door immediately. She was glad, it wouldn't shut right in front of her and she was glad she could actually step inside this time.
„Welcome to my home" Caroline said and opened the door for Haley to walk in first.
Haley nodded and stepped in, walking past Caroline. She was blown away by her apartment, it was huge and it looked like an apartment out of a magazine.
„Wow, your home looks great" Haley said, while inspecting the big living room.
„You like it?" Caroline asked. She kicked off her shoes and walked into the kitchen.
„Yes, I love it."
Haley wasn't sure if she was allowed to sit down, it was ridiculous, but this couch was so white, she struggled to think clearly.
„Do you wanna have something to drink?" Caroline shouted from the kitchen, she turned to look at Haley, who was just standing there, amazed and not sure what do to.
„You can sit down if you want" Caroline giggled.
„Thanks."
Haley sat down on the couch and looked around the room. She noticed a lot of frames on the wall, mostly it seemed like Caroline and her mother, because this woman looked just like her, beautiful. She also spotted the wall tattoo, that was just above the flat screen. Caroline was a fashionista through and through.
Caroline came walking back with two glasses of orange juice in her hand, she sat down next to Haley, not too close though.
„I hope you like orange juice" she said and placed the glasses in front of them on the glass table.
„Yes, thank you, Caroline."
After she took a sip, Caroline leaned back against the couch and watched Haley still taking in the room. She smiled at her, she loved how cute Haley was being, she was nervous and excited. Caroline could see Haley's red cheeks, she wondered if Haley could see her own cheeks being red as well.
Haley however wondered how Caroline could afford all of this; a nice apartment in New York wasn't exactly cheap and Caroline's apartment was more than just nice and her furniture looked very expensive. Her own apartment wasn't the cheapest one, but her parents were quite wealthy so it wasn't much of a problem. Maybe Caroline had wealthy parents as well, but she didn't look like she was just a daughter, she looked like she was working very hard and had earned all that on her own.
„So, do you wanna watch a movie, or do you just wanna stare at my stuff?" Caroline asked teasingly and smirked at Haley.
„I uhm, sure movie sounds good" Haley blushed and tried to not get too hot, due to Caroline being flirty.
„Okay, what do you wanna watch? Are you more of an Action type, or romantic love stories, or thriller, or horror, how about the good old disney movies?" Caroline got up and walked towards her cupboard that was filled with hundreds of DVDs. She turned around and looked at Haley, waiting for her to reply.
„Surprise me" she said trying to flirt back.
