"so how is it ??" my sister janiah asked from the other side of the phone.

"okay i guess" i mumbled.

"lyss please at least try to enjoy it. ik that you're traumatized and you're healing but he can't hurt you" she said.

"yeah ik" i said.

"but is there any girls on the team that you think is cute ?" she asked.

"idk i didn't really pay attention" i said lowly.

"okay well imma let you go cus ik you have practice." she said.

"okay" i said dryly.

"hey sis.. you're gonna be okay. yk we gotchu and so does your new team. you were meant to be here that's why God kept you! good luck at your first practice. you got this! i love you" her soft voice spoke.

"thank you.. i love you too" i said.

we said our goodbyes and hung up. i grabbed my gym bag and headed out. jackie offered to pick me up until i get a car and i do not trust uber drivers unless its a women.

"hey girl you ready ?" she asked and i nodded.

"thanks for picking me up" i said lowly.

"ofc. we're teammates now. you're so strong and ik that i don't understand your pain but i do want you to know that im here for you if you ever need anything" she said which shocked me.

from what ik jack barely talks. but i think it's sweet she's going out of her comfort zone just to be here for me.

"thank you jackie" i said and she nodded.

we got to practice and i nervously walked into the locker room because ik everyone was gonna be looking at me.

"hey lyss" syd said.

"hey guys" i mumbled.

"are you nervous ??" a'ja asked.

"kind of. you guys are the best team and idk if i'll be able to keep up" i admitted.

"girl you will be fine!! it just takes time and we gone be here for you" kp said.

"thanks guys" i said and they nodded. i finished getting dressed and walked onto the court.

everyone else was just talking since we did have 10 minutes left i decided to get some shots up to clear my head.

"hey you okay ?" i heard making me shake my head and look at her.

"yeah just getting some shots up" i said.

"have you always been this shy ?" jackie asked.

"no i was very outgoing until - and then i stopped shaking my head.

"it's okay im sorry i asked" jack replied.

"it's fine, not your fault" i said shooting free throws.

"yk i couldn't wait to make fun of your knees cus it makes me laugh everytime you shoot free throws but i'll save the joke for later" she said.

"yeah they make me laugh too" i said looking at them.

we heard the team come out and we got on the baseline and waited for becky. a few seconds later she walked out with a clip board and a whistle.

"okay so this is nalyssa's first practice so we're gonna show her the drills and then help her learn the plays got it ?" becky said and everyone nodded.

we started off with defensive drills. and they were hardcore now i see why they were back2back champs.

i had to guard megan. a'ja passed her the ball & i jumped up and stole it passing it to jackie who went down court and passed it to kiah who laid it up.

"good d smith" becky yelled.

"good sh**" jackie said as we high fived each other.

"dang meg she stole yo cookie" chelsea said making the team laugh.

"ntm on my girl" syd said.

"good job" meg said high fiving me.

"thank you and you too" i said.

"let's move on to the plays" becky said.

"lord this is what might kill me" i mumbled.

"stop you will be fine.. dont stress it boo" jack said and i nodded.

"you did amazing girl. first day and you playing like that ?? another ring coming" kp said.

"H*LL YEAHH" a'ja yelled.

"thanks guys" nalyssa said and they nodded.

"good job boo. im proud of you and i told you, you were gonna do amazing" i said smiling at her.

"thank you jack" she said and i nodded.

"im gonna go to the bathroom" she said and we nodded.

"guys we gotta get her tf out of that shy cell. can't have another jackie" syd said making me mug her.

"it's not that easy guys. she's not talking because she's traumatized so we can't push it" i said.

"right we just gotta be patient with her" kate said.

"ouu we should take her to our favv team restaurant" tip suggested.

"ouu that's a good idea. hopefully she agrees" ac said.

not long after she came back in and changed her clothes and shoes.

"so we are going to our favorite team restaurant tonight wanna come ?" i asked her.

"i don't have a ride" she said.

"i'll pick you up" i said.

"okay" she said and i smiled and clapped excitedly.

"you're gonna love it, the food is so good" i said as we walked to my car.

i dropped her off and went home and showered and got dressed. i put on deodorant & perfume and fixed my hair.

my phone vibrated making me pick it up & i saw that my sister texted me.

little sis❤️: hey can you send me $100 ?? ion get paid until next week.

big sister🦋: dang no hey sis how you doing ?? i'll send it tomorrow im going out with the team tonight and im about to be late.

little sis❤️: lol yk i love you! okay and be safe.

big sister🦋: i love you more & i will.

i grabbed my phone and keys and headed to nalyssa's apartment. she walked out and i headed to the restaurant.

"you look nice" she said lowly making me smile.

"thank you boo. you look nice too outfit fye" i said and she thanked me.

once we pulled up we got out and walked in where the team was seated in the back. we walked to the back and sat down in the 2 open seats.

"girl i thought we was gone have to drag you out that apartment" a'ja said making her shake her head.

"im not that boring" she said.

"you're not boring.. just healing" i said looking at her and she nodded.

we talked about the season and mostly tried to get lyss to laugh but she would not do it no matter what we said or did. it's just gone take some time and we understand that she's been through such a traumatic experience.
