Chapter 2|| "Cookies?"
Cussing involved. Sorry, Jen's personality won't be complete without it. If you get offended, then don't read. I don't wanna deal with hate. Thank you and enjoy~
Chapter 2
Jennifer~
One of the worst ways to be woken up is by a heavy metal object being tossed right on your tummy. I learnt this new piece of information that morning. Unfortunately.
"Those are the keys to every cupboard and drawer of Mom's shop," I heard Jer instruct from somewhere to my right.
"Argh," I groaned as I picked up the huge ring which had atleast twenty keys if not more.
"Its the twenty-first century! Why are we still dealing with keys?"
"We are also dealing with alarms you see and yours has gone off twice already," Jer stated.
"What?" I jerked awake and frantically searched for my phone.
11:20. Shit.
"Remind me again when Mom told you to be at the store?" he mocked me.
I threw a pillow at him. She said sharp at 10. Not a minute late.
Well what about a little more than an hour, mother? Will you pardon me then?
"Why didn't you wake me up, you buffoon?"
"Oh I didn't know I was appointed for that," he replied, rolling his eyes.
"And what am I smelling?" I sniffed the air. "Cookies?"
My eyes narrowed at Jer's baking apron as he shrugged.
"The coconut ones are fine but the chocochip ones could do with more sugar," said a new voice.
Did I say new? I meant old, old as fucking dinosaurs.
"He is your taste-tester, now?" I seethed as I watched Soham chewing a cookie and walking towards my bed with a smirk plastered on his face.
"Well, you were absent for years and I needed someone to taste—"
Soham sat down on my bed with a heavy sigh before coughing out, "Suspended."
"Yes, Soham everyone remembers it here. Thank you very much," I said, sarcasm dripping from my tone.
"You're welcome, m' lady."
He grinned at me. I hate his grin.
I jabbed at his ass with my toes. "Get. Up. From. My. Bed." I gritted out with every poke.
He looked unstirred as he purposefully spilled crumbs on my bed.
I sat up on my bed and threw a pillow at him while getting up. He dodged it easily, his laugh echoing around my room.

"This one needs sugar."
"Oh please, its already sweet enough," I reprimanded Soham.
I glared at Jer as he completely ignored me to stir more sugar into his batter.
"Why are you even making so many cookies early in the morning?" I asked pointing to the table covered in trays of cookies.
"You don't know?" Soham turned to me while Jer casted his head down churning his batter with added concentration.
"What?" I looked between the two of them.
"Well you're not the only one who got a summer job," Jer replied in a tiny voice.
"Mom—"
"No, not Mom. I mean technically yes it was hers. You remember the store that grandpa owned near the city junction?"
"The one he always rented at a low price even though that place was huge af?"
"Yeah that's the one. Well when they shifted to Pune, he wrote it to mom's name and now she's passed it down to me—"
"Passed it down? What do you mean by passed it down?"
"It means that the store is now in Jeremy's name," Soham interjected.
My chair screeched against the kitchen floor as I got up.
"You get your own store while I have to work under Mom?"
"Why does that matter? Its like an internship for you while you're getting trained by one of the best fashion designers in the city with all the top brands—"
"It matters because its not fair!"
I glared at him while he sighed in defeat.
"Jennifer—"
I whipped my phone out and dialled my mom's number, my narrowed eyes not moving from Jeremy's apologetic face.
"Mom—"
"Jennifer D'Souza, what time did you say that you will come here—"
"Mom—"
"I don't see you anywhere. Its almost noon now—"
"Jeremy gets a store of his own to bake and sell while I work under you? Aren't we both from the same womb—"
"I told you to be here at ten a.m. sharp. Do I see you here? No."
I closed my eyes as I tried controlling my temper.
"You're making this into a bigger issue that what it is," Jer whispered to me.
I threw his own fucking cookie at him. It hit him on the face and it helped me calm down a bit. He gave me a blank look in return.
Ofcourse, it takes a lot to anger Jeremy the Almighty but unfortunately whatever genes he got wasn't passed down to me. So you see this partiality started from when we were goddamit embryos. Not right now nor yesterday.
I got all these personality issues while he is the bloody perfect golden boy. And let me tell you, it takes me very little to blow right off. And my very own mother was testing it.
"This is why I don't give you your own store. You're not half as responsible as Jer is."
"Fine," I said as I ended the call and rushed to my room without looking at either of them.

A knock came on my door about an hour later.
"Fuck you, Jeremy. Go away."
"Its not Jer, its me."
"Fuck you, too then," I mumbled. My eyes wandered to him as he casually strolled in and sat next to me on the floor.
I tried my best to ignore him but I couldn't anymore when he unwrapped my other joystick and plugged it in.
"What are you doing?" I asked, staring at my screen as I shot down zombies.
"Its known as multiplayer," he replied. He quickly removed The Walking Dead game and inserted Need for Speed.
"You have an outdated version of NFS," he commented.
"No one asked you to join," I replied bitterly.
He ignored me as he started the game.
I won. Thrice in a row and all he did was laugh as I celebrated.
When I won the fourth game, I threw down my joystick and narrowed my eyes at him.
"You're losing purposely, aren't you?"
He smirked, "Maybe I am or maybe you're too good." He drawled out the word 'good'.
"You asshole, I hate you," I whined.
He kept his joystick down and turned to me.
"Your mom isn't being partial and you know that," he said quietly.
"One gets a store and the other gets nothing. How's that not partial?"
"And after your mom decides to retire, who gets the store and all the fame which comes with it?"
"Some stranger, most probably. Not her own daughter though. Never," I muttered.
"Stop kidding with yourself, Jen. If anyone is getting favoured, its you—"
"How the—"
"Will you listen?"
I sighed.
He continued, "You're getting a ready made store which is already famous and you're getting supervised by your mother. Jer has to build up his own store from scratch. Make his own name. So who has to do more work?"
His eyes searched my face as I stared at my television screen.
"You know I'm right," he smirked.
"Get out."
"Really? That's how you treat me after I made you feel better about your shitty life?" he asked feigning disbelief at me before getting up from beside me.
I hated to admit that I missed his warmth.
"My life isn't shitty and no one asked you to be here," I countered.
"You should have thrown me out when I first came in, then."
He shut the door before I could say anything else.
That asshat.

Soham had left by the time I cleared my head and came out of my room. Jeremy was baking cakes now.
He looked at me when I moved a stool and sat down.
"Mom told you to be there by four atleast."
"I will tell her I'll be on time," I replied calmly.
Maybe he expected me to throw another tantrum because he looked at me weirdly before continuing with his icing.
"Yeah sure."
"When are you opening your shop?" I asked.
"Tomorrow morning at ten," he replied. "I'd love it if you'd be there," he added quickly.
I smiled at him. "Sure."
He grinned in return and said, "There's also this offer tomorrow. So if you buy a slice of cake you get another one free."
"Well that won't apply to me, then," I smirked.
"You don't want free cake?" he asked in surprise as he paused his work.
"Bruh, I'm getting everything for free."
"Not happening."
"So happening," I said laughing, as I snatched his bowl of icing and dunked a spoon in.
"Argh, why God, why?" he groaned as he tried getting it back.
"You love me," I said as I licked the spoon clean.
"Nice belief," he sneered.
Of course, I'm getting cake for free, tomorrow. Brothers who bake are the best after all.
