chapter 12

I ate, and I ate until I couldn't move, and suddenly Timothy turned up looking like boiled shite.

"Did you not think I would survive?" I asked but made sure to smile at him to hopefully show that I messing around with him.

"It. It. It was a troll? And you somehow survived" I gestured for him to take a seat across the table and then I proceeded to tell him all about what happened. It was fun watching his face change every other moment from shock to fear and finally, relief when I finished.

"And then I woke up in my bed" I took a bite of a bacon-looking thing that tasted like turkey, and my eyes flicked to the door of the guild that swung open, and in walked my brother, Archie, well Edmund and his unit of a bodyguard. He spotted me and made a beeline for him, ignoring the shocked looks of my guild mates and even some of them bowing to him. He came to the edge of my table dressed like a prince from the 1800s, a posh suit thing with frilly bits coming out of it.

"Ronald" he declared loudly, and then slightly bowed his head.

"Ronnie" I corrected him. I caught the dirty look with the incredible side-eye he gave me mid-bow.

"I am happy to see that you are alive, and this is?" Archie/Edmund turned to Tim and true to form. Timothy went red and then pale, and at that moment, I think I can see his whole mouth drying up.

"This is my friend, Timothy; he was a big help in the dungeon" Tim's head turned around to me so fast I heard it crank and at least 3 more necks crank from separate tables.

"Hello Timothy, thank you for helping my dear..." My brother stopped and looked at me and realised he couldn't say brother. "My dear friend" he reached his hand out for a handshake.

"It's my dear pleasure," Timothy said; why the fuck did he sound like he was in pain? He then clapped both of his sweaty hands over Archie/Edmunds's hand. Letting go of it quickly. My brother took a seat next to me.

"Dear pleasure?" I whispered sarcastically, Too, Tim, but my brother overheard me.

"Shut up" whispered my brother. He stood up properly. "Care for a walk? He has plenty to discuss"

"Yeah, of course," I said, standing up, "I'll be back soon, Tim; we can go tackle the dungeon together again" I smiled and patted his shoulder and followed my brother and his walking wardrobe out of the guild.

"Why do people stare so much?" I asked Archie/Edmund when we got out of the guild.

"I'm a noble they don't normally see my sort in guilds unless they aren't the heir to their family's fortune. And well, you are dressed like a servant of a poor home right now, so you and I together look weird, and that means we have our first point of order, which is to get you new clothes".

He is right about my clothes but I don't know if I could dress like him. But he is right. We must look odd. I am getting some funny looks from the locals. We walked through the streets and cobbled pavements all the way. If you weren't paying attention or used to walking around, you would fall over. Market stalls lined the streets, and I only knew what the weapons were; well, some of them I knew were swords and shields, but these jewels, some held magic in.

After 10 minutes of walking and feeling like the ugly one in the group. The cobbled stones smoothed out, and the market stall disappeared and expertly painted shops, not a patch missing, even the railings didn't look like they had a single bit of rust on them. The women are walking around in bright dresses, fanning themselves with a fan followed by maids and most of the men are dressed like my brother.

"Here we are," Archie/Edmund said. We stopped in front of a shop called Clover. Big and dark blue, with mannequins dressed in fancy men's clothes. "This is gonna be the first stop, Ronnie; get ready. This is going to be a super busy day!" Archie made eye contact with me and smiled, and for that moment, I saw my brother, not who he is now but who he was in his old life.

The first stop was fancy clothes; my brother was adamant that I needed them and I had a brief disagreement with the young man who worked in Clover; he didn't want to serve a commoner like me. We got my clothes and left.

Second was armour this was a lot more fun, and the worker in that shop was more than happy to serve me. I tried on full armour like an old-school knight, but that didn't work I could barely move. I left with a more light-fitted get-up. Blue, like a certain football team I like, it covers my chest, shoulders, legs and arms; I informed him I only needed one gauntlet since I was given a different one in the dungeon.

The third stop was the bank. It turns out my brother's family owns it, of course, they fucking do. Anyway, I got an account there which already had gold in Marty and Viv came through for me, I can't thank them enough.

And finally, the fourth stop was a posh house with its front garden penned in between and large railings behind the house was a row of barns that must have been for the horses of the owners of the house. The front of the house was large, with steps leading up to wooden doors, white-painted walls trees and branches growing the house. I counted 8 windows on each side of the house.

"I spoke to Marty and Vivienne," Archie/Edmund said.

"What? How do you know them?"

"How they didn't tell you?" My brother laughed, "They are both nobles. I have known both of them since I was born, apparently, but they aren't the heirs to their family, so they became guild members and adventures; they aren't from the family, of course; Marty is a cartwell, and Vivienne is a Westwood. Both are very well-known families, but long story short, both they and their families and I believe you deserve a reward for what you did since you saved them too. They found out you were staying in a barn. Their wives lost their minds and demanded they find you a home deserving of a noble saviour, so here it is this is your new home, and you don't have any staff. No offence but they refused to work for a commoner but this is yours, do with it what you want"

He grabbed my hand and dropped Keys into it.
