The Last Laugh
Dash (Lane)
"Hold up," I said, just as two men stepped in front of Sal.
"What is this?" He asked as Simon came walking up.
"You may have immunity for the arms deals, but not for sex trafficking and drugs," I said as I put him in handcuffs.
"I made all this happen for you. I gave you your ticket to freedom." He said.
"Come on now Sal, you didn't think I knew your plan? There's one thing missing from your file on me." I said as my men patted him down and pulled a gun from under his jacket.
"What's that?"
I leaned in and whispered. "The four horsemen aren't a legend," I said, and his face turned white.
Droves of SUVs pulled in as men tried to run, but we got them all. Sal didn't get his dramatic ending. I watched as Sylvia, Lark, and their henchmen were walked out in handcuffs. I turned to the man behind me and shook his hand.
"Thanks for the help, Manducci," I said, and he gave me a nod.
"You promised me immunity." He said with his mouth in a straight line.
"Your new identity is ready, but don't think we won't be watching." I gave him a warning. He gave me one last nod before walking away with another one of my men.
It may take months to comb through this compound and collect all the evidence we need. I had enough evidence when my handler was contacted by Manducci. His men weren't working under his orders, they were working under Sylvia's. The sick bitch wanted her own daughter dead.
I have sighed in relief now for days. My plan came together at the very last minute when Sal thought I was down at headquarters. Simon approached me with his new orders and everything came together last minute. That's why I wasn't in a hurry to leave my wife that morning. I needed to give Sal the space he needed to put his own plan into action.
I meant everything I said to Danica. I gave her my name just in case we got separated so she could find me, not just because I wanted to hear my name said by her. I gave in to her because our chances of escaping increased, and I knew I needed her in my life.
After a week, I reported to Washington D.C. where my presence was requested by the man himself. General Butler, someone who has made promises, and I had no idea if he would follow through.
I saw something one day that started me down this horrible road. I saw three men under him order a hit on him. I knew my duty, even though they were my superiors. I was in Afganistan and waiting for orders when it happened. I almost got killed in the process, but his life was saved.
I was a part of Navy SEAL team 6, but the General was part of the Army. It was still my duty to protect him, but at the same time, I learned things no man should know. I saved the man that ordered me into this elite team. He is also the man that saved my life. He set everything up. He said it was easy and Sal was putty in his hands.
It ended up, the easiest case of my career, led me to take a wife. The CIA hacked into the states computer system and changed my name on our marriage certificate. I hope she still wants me, because I'm going to make her dreams come true.
General Butler said he needed a reason to keep me alive. Taking down three crime families would be perfect. Although they already had what they needed, they put my name on it to free me. I guess they also got off on watching the families fear 'The Punisher', so it was a game to the higher ups. He worked with the director of the CIA, and yesterday he awarded me with a metal of honor and my freedom that can't come soon enough.
Chief Petty Officer Lane D. Morgan has risen from the dead, and a letter of apology was sent to my father and Megan. They said I was MIA, but mistaken for another man that died, except my casket is empty. There was no other man.
They did all of this because they needed me to find out where the orders came from, to put a hit on the General. I worked that case for three years, then the General put into motion this whole mafia farce to help me earn my freedom. It wasn't him that made me a Horseman, so he needed a plan to save my life in return.
Out of all the men in the world to send after my girl, it was Hawk. Benjamin Adler to be exact, but we called him Hawk because he is the best damn sharpshooter I've ever known.
I hope to tie everything up in Chicago so she can come back to me. I need to ask her an important question; will she stay my wife or want her freedom?
