The Funeral

The Funeral

Chapter 59

Louis' POV

Niall's funeral is about to start soon. I didn't get any sleep last night because I was dreading that I have  to say my final goodbye to Niall today before they lower him into the ground forever. Brushing my tears aside, I hurry to put on my black suit and run out the door behind Zayn and Harry. Everyone is gathered in the hallway wearing nothing but black. The men have on black suits like me and the women have on black dresses.

We make our way to the limo once again and an eerie silence fills the air. This silence being even worse than the one yesterday. I refuse to make eye contact with anyone because I know that if I do, I'll start to cry and I don't know if I'd be able to stop.

The limo finally stops several minutes later in front of a gorgeous looking church. The colors of the church are green and white. It's shaped like a castle. All I can think is "Niall deserves to have his funeral in a church like this.

Everyone makes their way to the sanctuary and sits down. I sit in between Zayn and Harry. Maura and her husband sit behind me. The rest of Niall's friends and family scatter about. Then, the minister comes out and begins speaking.

"Niall James Horan was an exceptional young man. He did well in school, was very talented, kind, compassionate, and so much more. But, most importantly, he was treasured and loved by all of you. He's looking down each and everyone of you, proud that you have come here today in his honor. Let us remember that although he may be gone, he will never be forgotten. Now a few of Niall's loved ones would like to say a few words about Niall. First up is his best friend Louis Tomlinson."

I stand up and I can feel everyone's eyes on me. I keep my head down until I get to the podium. The minister nods at me and I nod back. I hold on to the podium for support and begin speaking.

"I only knew Niall for a few months, but him and I became best friends quick. He was my first real friend at Penn State. Niall made me feel so welcome that I knew then and there that we would form an unbreakable bound. Niall later became friends with my boyfriend Harry and my good friend Zayn. The do I  of us used to have the greatest times together. A month ago ,one night back in dorms, the four of us had a Nerf gun fight. Niall won within five minutes." A few people laugh and so do I. "Niall was only eighteen years old when he passed a week ago. He was too young to die. At my age, you're not suppose  to lose your friend, but now I have and it hurts like hell. Having to go to English Literature and not seeing him sit in his usual seat is going to be unbearable. Niall was such a beautiful person and I'm going to spend the rest of my life missing him. If you're here in some spiritual form Niall, just know that I love you and I will never forget the handprint you made in my heart."

I make my way back down to my sit. I look at Harry and Zayn who are both crying. Not being able to hold it in any longer, I throw myself into their arms and cry myself.

Maura says a few words about Niall along with his dad, his brother Greg, a couple friends from primary school, and his grandparents. Everyone sings a couple of Irish hymns and the funeral ends. We all go outside and watch Niall's casket be placed into the ground, right under the tombstone with his name in it. His parents cover the casket with dirt until it is no longer visible. That was the last time any of us ever saw Niall.
