7 : Parallel Mirror

Star one, Spinex, started to fade on the horizon of the planet. Xix walked along the platform as she entered the humongous hatch. Taking her three-fingered hand off the console, she looked at the vial of PHZ-3, illegal and rare in Clyne; hazardous and radioactive, incompatible with any entity; an element which phases within dimensions, able to blend time continuum.

Xix came to the center of a highly technologically advanced room. The vial slipped from her hands, it rather seemed that she spilled it consciously, it cracked- painting the floor with its contents.

The lab exploded in an array of light as a blue streak found its way to the components. But Xix, stood amidst this chaos, unfaltering to the core. As if she'd seen this beforehand. Star two, Xilum, started to rise over the horizon.

The light faded into darkness as Xix's eyes made out a face among the split PHZ-3. A silent smile escaped her lips as the word, "Hello, " left her mouth.

The other person had a visible sign if confusion on his face. Probably because he was from another planet; from a parallel dimension unknown to them.

"It's been long, Xix, " he said, in a tongue she didn't understand. But Xix stood up from her knees and walked around the laboratory and started to fiddle with the vials and the volatile liquids in the racks.

As if she'd forgotten about the crack she made through reality.

The days went on, the stars span around Xix, yet she didn't stop; she continued to indulge in her work. Her bluish green skin seemed to have developed black spots as a sign of tiredness. Insomnia and all was with her; yet she didn't stop.

On the other side of the split of reality, Yaehnen continued to look at Xix, having a hard time to take his eyes of her mesmerizing figure.

On a rosy day, Xix threw up her arms in the air as she picked up a conical flask of silica in the palm of her hand. She stode towards the dried up residue of the PHZ-3. She confronted the face she saw in the crack that was made in the known reality. She showed a smile and so did Yaehnen.

"I'm gonna do it once again... " Xix said with a sad smile. Yaehnen had a look of fear as even though he didn't understand her language; her expression said everything.

"You're doing it again, aren't you?" the silence that followed said it all.

Xix was gonna do something again...

She took the silica flask and tipped it over. Little by little, the drops fell down as time seemed to slow down for them. The PHZ-3 started to tear into a fist of light as the third star, Glidex sparkled up. A blue of light zapped through as the entire planet of Clyne looked up in awe. It was mirrored on Yaehnen's planet as well.

Xix pressed her hand against the floor. Her palms hissed as it started to wither and singe as she flinched. PHZ-3 is corrosive against most known substances, highly reactive to organic tissues; yet she smiled, as warm as the tears glistening from her eyes. Yaehnen understood the pain she felt as he, too, did the same to share the least bit of emotions with her.

Their hands felt like it met for a mere moment. The blue light rampaged through both worlds but they stood their ground. They were lost in each other's eyes... imagining their future... with each other... possible only if the gamble succeeded.

It was the only way at hand.

A volatile mixture Scrizits(S-Cry-Zits) and Scunkek (S-ken-keck) when reacting to PHZ-3, brings worlds together and bends reality.

But they didn't care about bringing worlds together. They just wanted to come closer, as close as their hearts were.

The blue flash struck Yaehnen as his body burst into a mirage of lights. The light dimmed as he fell on the floor. The connection between the world's broke as Xix clasped her mouth. The PHZ-3 had vanished, and so had Yaehnen's reflection; but Xix's eyes widened as she saw Yaehnen - in front of her; in her world.

"Xix..." he mumbled, "We did it! I can see you! You can see me! We can see other! Now we ca-"

He put his hand to his stomach as he started to cough vigorously. A teal coloured liquid was caught in his palms. He looked at her with a look of shock but it faded to a gentle smile.

"Seems like w-we f-failed again, hu-h?" he said with a pale look on his face.

More coughing followed.

"T-times gonna b-be up."

"But I'm happy..... I could f-finally see you! But this time, *cough* I'm going to leave... f-forever."

"C-can you p-promise me, *cough* you won't ever l-love someone else than m-me?" He took Xix's face in his hand.

He pressed his lips on hers. A feeling of electricity surged through them. A moment of silence before he started to cough as his life force fell out again. Yaehnen grasped the hand of Xix, which was singed and crumbling from touching the mixture.

He took a good moment to look into the eyes, after parting the hair from her face.

"Smil-e f-for me?"

"Thank y-you..." He fell on her as he went to sleep in her arms.

Forever this time....

In the insidious solace of silence, she cried and moaned hysterically, holding the body of her dead lover in her arms. She screamed into his chest, a voice muffled.

"I-I promise!"
