Chapter 9 : The Party

Hey there everyone! I don't usually write at the beginning of a chapter, but I'd like to do it this time.

I am dedicating this chapter to my best friend The Universal Idiot. Yeah, that's what I call her. I wanted to mention her account but she wants to stay anonymous.

If it wasn't for her, I would have never published this story ever. So even though not many people read my stories, I still am glad that I published this and thanks to my biestie for that :) I love you lots, dude!

Ryan's POV

I got that weird feeling again. It has been happening from quite some time now. My heart beats faster every time she smiles. Every touch sends electricity down my spine, even if it's just an arm on the shoulder. And the worst part is... she's my best friend. Yes, I have a crush on Autumn. And I can't tell anyone because all her friends are my friends as well. So yeah, I'm pathetic!

"Hey!!" Autumn waved her hand in front of me. "Are you even listening to what I'm saying?"

"No." I said breaking out of my trance.

"Wow! And you're not even pretending to listen!" She said. "Are you even interested in my life at all?"

"Oh come on, Autumn! You're a big girl now, deal with your own problems."

"But besties should look out for each other."

"Oh stop calling me you bestie. I hate that word. It's so cringy." I said.

"BFFs then?"

"How about no?"

"Ugh! Help me out!"

"You help me out first." I said. "There's a girl I really like Autumn, what should I do?"

"Wow! Who is it? Who is it?" She jumped like an excited kid. Ugh! What's her obsession with setting me up?

"I'm not taking names."

"Why not?" She whined. "Wait, is it my sister? It better not be my sister!"

My eyes widened at that. Why would she even think that? "You should pray that it better not be you!" I joked.

"Well, why not? Am I not a girlfriend material?" She questioned me with her hands on her waist. My eyebrows shot up at that.

"You most definitely are." I breathed. "But we're best friends, Autumn."

"So what?" She sat down beside me. "I would date you." My stupid heart needs to stop doing these. And the butterflies in my stomach better tone it down too. There's just so much a guy can take! And Autumn here certainly isn't helping.

"Are you declaring you love for me, bestie?" I teased.

"Shut up!" She smacked my head with her pillow.

"So you would date me if I asked you out?" I asked gulping down a lump in my throat.

"Actually on second thoughts, no!" My heart sank. "You're my best friend, Ryan. And we all know high school relationships don't last. I wouldn't wanna destroy what we have." She smiled at me.

"Right." I forced a smile.

~End Of Flashbacks~

Kylan's POV

He rushed to me from behind and closed my eyes with his hands. "Guess who?" He asked.

"Jason." I said.

"That's right!" He cheered and came in front of me with that shit-eating grin on his face. "How did you know?" God! He's like a kid.

"I just did." I smiled. "Oh by the way, I'm having a party today at my place. You wanna come?"

"Will Autumn be there?" He asked.

"Why, you wouldn't come if she's not there?" I asked. He shook his head. "Wow, I'm offended!"

"No, it's just that... I don't really fit into the party-going crowd." He said his smile still there, but the once excited smile turned into a sad one.

"Hey, who told you that?"

"Someone did." He said his smile fading away totally for a moment, before returning again. "Oh, speaking of parties, do you need any help setting it up or cleaning afterwards?"

Nobody ever offered me help before. "I might need a hand. Why? Would you come help me?"

"Only if you want to." I smiled at that.

Right now we were at our living room, laughing our asses off to Jason's childhood stories. "But unfortunately Mom didn't buy it." He said.

"Well, no shit!" I snorted.

"Oh My God, was that a snort?" And Jason started laughing all over again.

"What?" I joined into his fits of laughter. And we kept laughing for the rest of the time we decorated my place. I have to admit, I didn't have so much fun in forever.

"Okay, I think it's done." He said looking around.

"I guess."

"Then, I guess I'll get going."

"What if Autumn shows up? She usually does go to parties, you know." I said.

"Well, I'll talk to her some other time if I get the chance to." He said packing up his things.

He almost walked out of the door when I called out to him. "Hey, Jason." I didn't know why, but I wanted him to stay. Maybe because he helped me out so much, or maybe because I was enjoying his company way too much to let him go just yet. "Stay."

Jason's POV

The lights went out, and the disco lights set up by us came to life. Drinks were poured, music was loud, and people started coming in. I finally gave in and decided to stay. This wasn't my first time in a high school party though. But I was still nervous.

"Hey," Someone called from behind. "I didn't think I'd see you here."

"Oh hi!" That someone was Autumn. And... there was that awkward silence. I gave her a smile. She smiled back.

"No conversation starters for parties?" She joked.

I laughed lightly. "I'm not really a party person."

"I could tell." She said the smile not leaving her face. "Come on, let's go get a drink."

I followed her as she poured herself a drink.

"Ah- not for me!" I suddenly said when she went on to pour me one too.

"Why not?"

"I just prefer not to drink..."

"But it's a party Jason."

"I know... but like-"

"Okay. No problem. Well, since you're gonna be sober, make sure I don't end up doing stupid shit while drunk, okay?" I smiled at that.

~ A few hours later ~

Kylan's POV

I was just swaying my hips to the music along with some girl I just met, when I heard some voices coming from behind.

"Come on, bro. Just a sip won't hurt." It was Jamie's voice. It seemed he was forcing someone to drink. Jamie is the definition of trouble. I'd rather not get involved.

But the voice next that spoke next, "Dude, I said I'm fine!" was a voice I well-recognized.

"I'm sorry, I gotta go take care of something." I told that girl before leaving to go where from the voices were coming. As I reached, I saw Jamie and Jason arguing with a filled, red cup.

"Hey, James." I called out dragging both of their attention to me. "Let it go, man. He doesn't want it."

"Hey there, Kylan, my bro!" He shouted as he walked towards me and took my hands into his. "Before, you'd come rescue that Elijah boy, now him. You sure change boyfriends fast." He spoke in low voice.

"James, let go." I said trying to pull my hands out of his grasp.

"Why? Is your boyfriend watching? Will he get upset?" He said holding my hands with a stronger grip looking at me with an unreadable expression.

"James, enough!" Jason came up. "He's not my boyfriend and you know it. Stop it already." James threw both me and Jason a knowing smirk before walking away. "Thanks for that." Jason thanked me.

I dragged a hand down my face in frustration. "Ugh! My whole mood is ruined." I said and then looked at Jason, "You wanna get out of here and get some fresh air? I know a place."

"Yes please."

~

I took Jason to my go-to place where I often go for clearing my head, or for some much needed peace. Sometimes I just come here with Cole and Elijah to enjoy some chilled beer. It's the top of a low hill, with trees around.

"Wow, this place is chilly." Jason said wrapping his arms around himself and shivering slightly. I opened my jacket at that and offered it to him. He looked at me surprised for a moment, before taking it. "Well, that's quite a romantic gesture, you know." He smiled and I mirrored his expression. "James might actually think we're dating."

And there fell a comfortable silence between us.

I broke the silence after a while to say, "So, how do you know James?"

"It's nothing important." He dismissed with a smile.

"Oh come on! It didn't seem nothing important. Only people important to Jamie Henderson call him James."

"Um... I can tell you..."

"But?"

"But promise you won't judge me."

"Oh come on! You think I would judge you?" I asked.

"Yes?" He half-answered, half-questioned.

I laughed. "I won't. Promise."

"Well, we used to be friends." He started. "Like not close friends though. Just friends. And... he wanted to experiment... you know with boys. So... we might have slept together a few times."

"You're bisexual?" I asked. He looked at me surprised. Shit! I shouldn't have asked that. "I mean-"

"I don't know what I am. It's just... it depends on the person if I like them or not, if feel attracted or not, not on their gender."

"Fair enough." I said. "So like- you liked James?"

"I did." He looked at me with a sad smile. "Not anymore."
