Chapter 7 : Do You Have An Extra Pen?
~~♡~~
Jason's POV
"And then he fell down face first." Cole laughed as I completed my story, as Kylan stared at us shocked.
"Since when are you both best friends?" Asked Kylan, his mouth agape. It was lunch break and we were currently sitting together in the canteen. Amazing, isn't it?
"Since yesterday, but I am seeing this just today." Answered Elijah.
"God, Kylan. You never told me about Jason before. This guy's got some humor, dude." Cole said.
"Cole, did you apologize?" Kylan asked.
"I did. And thereafter we became friends." He confirmed, munching on his burger.
"Wow. Anyways, what's up?" Kylan looked at me.
"Nm." I shrugged. "Oh, on an important note, I have classes with Autumn today. So..."
"Oh, right!" Kylan exclaimed. "First things first, be subtle and don't be clingy. Second, be subtle but be nice too. Girls like boys who treat them nicely. Third, do not rush things. You might've waited for her for a long time, but she doesn't really know you, remember. So patience is the key. Got it?"
I shook my head. "You're being so vague and theoretical. Say what I'm supposed to talk to her about."
"Oh God, this guy..." Kylan sighed in frustration.
"So it's about a girl, I assume?" Cole asked, and I nodded. "Then ask me, bro. Kylan doesn't know shit."
"Okay, tell me."
"One, don't be nervous around her, be confident. Girls like guys with self-confidence." Cole began.
"But girls might also find the nervousness cute." Kylan cut in.
"Yeah. It depends on the girl. But I'm saying in general girls like-" Cole argued back.
"But what if Autumn isn't one of your 'general' girls?" Kylan injected.
"Well then-"
"Just be yourself, Jason." Elijah cut off their bickering. "You have a great personality, so she would take a liking to you for who you are."
That was the most sensible advice I've got so far.
The bell suddenly goes off. "That's okay, but first impressions are important." Cole said.
"Okay, guys I gotta run." I said picking up my bag. "Thanks Elijah, Kylan and Mr. Cool. See you guys later."
As I moved towards my classes I heard Kylan asking Cole, "Mr. Cool? What's that?"
"Don't ask me, bro." Cole replied and I chuckled.
~
I got into class first and sat on a random seat. I didn't know where Autumn would sit so...
Said girl enters the class immersed in her phone. She sits down on a random seat. I get up and move towards her seat plopping myself down beside her. Upon noticing she pulls out her earphones and stares at me confused. I just smiled and shrugged.
"Hi." I said.
"Hey..."
"What's up?"
"Apparently..." She looked up and then back at me, "the ceiling."
I smiled at that. "Nice one."
"So? Why're you sitting here? The whole class is practically empty." She asked.
"Actually..." I scratched my neck looking for answers. "Well, this is my favourite seat."
"But it was vacant before. Why didn't you sit here then?"
"Umm... because this is my favourite seat only when you sit with me." I tried my luck.
To that she chuckled. "Someone knows how to flirt." She said.
"I just try sometimes." I said feeling smug.
"I wasn't talking about you though." That left me speechless.
"Oooh."
She laughed at that. "You're cute. What's your name?"
"Jason."
"Hi Jason, I'm-"
"Autumn." I cut her off. "I know." She raised her eyebrows. Shit! This is what Kylan advised me against! I'm such a screw up.
"Okay... so you know me it seems?" I just nodded my head.
After that the conversation met the dead end. She said nothing more, neither did I. I did try though. I racked my brain to search topics to talk about but couldn't really start a conversation. I even thought about discussing about waffles.
Slowly the classroom started filling up. Ryan didn't show up though. In case you missed it, Ryan is Autumn's best friend. Autumn stayed engrossed in her phone until the teacher came in.
The teacher came in and started the lesson. I took my books out. Got it! I gotta ask for a pen. That's how we start a conversation!
I turned towards Autumn. "Do you have an extra pen I can use?" I said the same time as she said, "Can I have a pen?"
"Oh! Okay, never mind." She said turning to ask someone else when I suddenly pulled out a pen handing it to her.
"Here you go."
"But... weren't you asking for a pen too? I thought you didn't have one."
"Um... I just asked for a pen because..." I couldn't come up with an excuse. "Well, it's a good conversation started."
She smiled. "You're a funny guy."
"Here you go." I said handing her the pen. She muttered a quick 'thanks' grabbing it.
The class went by without any further small talk. She didn't bring up any topic, neither did I. And at the end of the class she engaged in a conversation with her friends so I didn't get to say goodbye. However she gave me a quick smile while I was exiting through the door which I returned. I can't wait to go and discuss this with Kylan and the group.
Elijah's POV
I was really surprised to see Cole and Jason sitting and chatting away like good old friends. Looks like my silent treatment worked. If Cole absolutely despises something in this world, it is my silent treatment. And I can be pretty persistent.
My phone went off and I picked up without checking the caller ID as usual. "Hello?" I said.
"Hey, it's Jasmine."
"Jasmine... who?"
"You forgot already? I'm hurt." She gasped dramatically. Maybe she's one of those girls who has a weird obsession with me and somehow got my number. I was about to hang up when she said, "It's Jason's sister, to be precise. How are you doing?"
"Oh hi!" Realization dawned upon me as I remembered giving her my digits. "I'm doing good. What's up?"
"Actually I called for a particular reason. So I'm gonna go straight to the point. Do you think someone's bullying my brother in school?" She asked.
~
It was lunch break and we were sitting at our table as Kylan discussed how Jason approached him. Cole was laughing his ass off to his story; but then again, that guy found humour in almost everything. I was however a little distracted. I was actually looking for someone in the crowd; Jason, to be specific. He said he would sit with us at lunch, and he should be here by now.
I saw as he entered the canteen conversing with a girl. "Who's that?" I asked pointing towards them. "The girl?"
"Oh! That's Autumn." Kylan answered. "Wait... did he finally succeed in talking to her?"
"Awesome!" Cole muttered. I saw as they laughed at something Jason said before parting ways. As he spot us in the crowd he waved his hands in our direction and walked towards us with a goofy grin.
