Chapter 4 : Jason's New Friend

~~♡~~

Kylan's POV

I sat there and watched as Cole bullied Jason. I wanted to say something, defend Jason, but all I could do was sit and watch. I don't know why I didn't say anything. Probably because I just met this boy and didn't care enough. Or maybe because I cared way too much about my reputation. Will it look bad if I defended Jason? To some, no; but to my friends, yes. I don't know why they find it fun to tease people.

Okay, I'm being a hypocrite here. If it was someone else, I wouldn't bat an eyelash or worse I'd be the one to bully them; but here the case was different. I knew him and the fact that he was so excited that he made a friend made me feel more guilty. I felt as if I wasn't worth his friendship.

As I was about to tell them to stop, I saw tears slipping through Jason's eyes. "Are you crying?" I asked in disbelief. My friends started to comment on that and Jason's body started shaking and more tears spilled from his eyes, and he ran out of the canteen. My heart clenched at the sight as my friends started laughing.

"You guys went overboard." I was going to say exactly that when Elijah said it. Elijah is another of my group of friends. He's uptight, but reserved. We quickly became friends as we met, but with time our friendship turned into more of an acquaintance. Elijah got up and left the canteen.

"Guys, you didn't have to be so mean." I said. "I had invited him to sit with us."

"What?" Cole exclaimed. "He was your friend?" There was no judgment in his words but I still felt judged.

"Why bro, you got a problem with that?" I snapped.

"No. But it's just- you could've told me. I wouldn't have done that then. I thought he was one of those wannabes who thought they're cool enough to be friends with us." Cole explained.

"You owe him an apology." I stated dryly.

"But-" He tried to protest but I cut him off.

"Yes you do."

"Fine." He raised up his hands in surrender.

We had classes together after that, but I didn't see him at class. I was a bit worried but I also didn't know what to say once I meet him.

~

Classes were almost over, and I didn't see him all day. Where the hell did he go? As I advanced towards the washroom I saw him coming out. He was clean and changed his shirt. He was no longer sad or upset, rather he was laughing with... Elijah? Since when were these two friends?

"Hey, Jason. You okay?" I asked not knowing what else to do.

"I'm fine." He smiled at me. Wow! How is he still smiling at me? If I were him, I would've strangled myself to the ground by now.

"Why are you here?" Elijah asked.

"What do you mean? I-"

"Inviting him to sit with us and then bullying him like that, is that what you call friendship?" Elijah yelled at me. "From being bullied now you've become the bully. You've changed so much Kylan." I still remember how once Elijah saved me from the bullies and thereafter we became friends. With that they turned around to leave.

Before leaving, Jason looked at me and said, "You could've told me I'm bothering you, I would've stopped. Anyways, I'm sorry for being so stupid and sorry for disturbing you."

Fuck that hurt! I wanted to say that he's not bothering me and that I consider him my friend too. But it seemed he no longer considered me his friend. So I just turned around and left.

I was thinking about what happened today as I drove back home. I mean, it was my fault that he had to suffer so much, and the least that I owe him is an apology.

I reached home and took a shower. But my head was constantly around what had happened. I know I need to apologize, but I don't know how. Is texting good?

Jason's POV

As we walked past Kylan, I asked the guy, "You know him?"

"Yes." He replied.

"I see." I pondered. "Oh! We never exchanged our names. I'm Jason." I said extending my hand towards him. He just smiled at that.

"I know, you mentioned your name earlier at the canteen." He said taking my hand. "I am Elijah."

"Oh nice. What does it mean?" I asked.

"What, Elijah?" I nodded. "I don't know. What does Jason mean?"

"Even I don't know." I shrugged and he chuckled.

"You're cute."

"And you said that twice already. Give it a rest, I'm not a baby." I whined and he chuckled.

"I'm not complaining, but you're quite the whiny kid, you know!" He said.

"I knoooww!" I dragged the word. "Everyone says that. My parents say their day doesn't start without me whining." Elijah laughed at that.

"So, where do we go?" He asked as we reached his car.

"I don't know, where do you wanna go?" I asked him, but before he could answer I screamed, "I know where to go!" Then I lowered my voice and said, "Sorry, I got excited. So there's this place where I went with my family not a week ago. It opened recently and is yet to be discovered by many, but the place serves awesome food. Wanna go?" He nodded.

As he was driving, he asked "How do you come to school? I mean if you don't drive."

"I walk. It's not that far. I'll show you my home and you should come meet my parents too. They'll be happy to meet you." I chirped happily. "You know I was so excited to find Kylan as my friend, but even though he doesn't wanna be my friend, I'm glad I found you." I gave him a cheeky grin and he chuckled.

"You're too cute, Jason."

"There you go again." I said. "You know, our family, we go out somewhere every Sunday unless someone has something really important to do. And last Sunday we went to this diner. It's really good." He just smiled at that his eyes not leaving the road.

"Anyways, about Kylan, I don't think he has a problem with being your friend. Why don't you go talk to him?" He asked

"I don't know." I said quietly.
