Chapter 21 : Announcing The Big News

Kylan's POV

"So, Jason has some news he would like to share with you all." I announced as we all sat down at our designated table at the canteen during lunch-break.

Last night was surprisingly fun. Apart from the few times I found Jason absolutely irresistable. Which was most of the time. But I am a man of much self-control. So despite all that, we managed to play several rounds of his favourite video game. Safe to say, it's my favourite now too. Then he introduced me to this show called Modern Family and we watched a few episodes of that. That is Jason's favourite TV show; so needless to say, it's my favourite now too.

Oh! Don't judge me! Yes, my personality revolves around Jason now, and no, I'm not too proud of it.

"So... I cannot believe I'm actually saying this, but... I'm dating Autumn." Jason revealed squealing with excitement. I tried to look happy for him and gave him a pat on the back. Elijah and Cole however looked... surprised. And not in a good way. Now that wasn't the reaction we were expecting!

"Guys?" I asked trying to fill in the awkward silence.

"I am sooo happy for you." Cole said and gave Jason a side-hug. That's the fakest I've ever seen him be. But Jason didn't pick up on it.

"You know what, you should treat us to some good food to celebrate it." Elijah said after he gained back his composure. "And tell us all about it. We wanna know the story."

"I'm gonna go get our food." I said and motioned for Cole to follow me. I had a hunch about what the hell was up with that reaction. I just needed him to confirm it.

I nudged Cole and he followed along with me. "What?" He asked annoyed, once we were at a safe distance. "I wanted to hear the story of how it all went down."

"Hey, what was up with that reaction?" I asked him.

"What rection?" He shrugged.

"Oh please." I smacked his arm. "Drop the act. You're too easy to read."

"I don't know what you're talking about bro." He replied trying to sound nonchalant.

"Let me guess. Elijah has a crush on Jason, and you know about that, so this news came as a shocker. And hence the reaction." I said with my with my arms crossed to give off a detective vibe.

"How did you know that?" Cole asked looking like he's seen ghost. So Jasmine was right afterall. Looks like the J-sisters aren't as crazy as I thought. They might actually be able to help me out. Interesting...

"Well, it's obvious." I replied.

"Eli would be heartbroken, you know." He said looking worried. This one is always worried about Elijah. He's way too protective of him too.

"Don't be dramatic. He'll be fine. It's just a silly crush." I said.

"You know how he gets too attached." He whined.

Elija's POV

"So what now?" Cole asked as we walked out of the cafeteria towards our next class.

"About what?" I questioned confused.

"About the Jason situation, what else?" He explained.

"What about it?" I pretended to not understand. And kept walking.

"Wait, hold up." He said as he stood in front of me to stop me. "You just found out that your crush is already dating someone, and you don't have anything to say about that?"

"What would I say?" I asked.

"I don't know..." He trailed off seemingly unsure himself. "Tell me how you feel. I can lend you an ear, or both my ears." He said pulling both his ears to show me. I slightly smiled at that. Cole has a way of making me feel better; always. "Or I can lend you a shoulder to cry on, if that's what you need."

"Thanks, but shoulder to cry on? Now that's bit much." I shrugged as we continued walking. "I mean it was just a silly crush after all. And it wasn't even that long, so don't worry about it." I said as we entered into the classroom, only to find out our history teacher was already in.

I checked my watch but it wasn't time yet. "Shit! We're late." Cole said showing me his phone screen. Is my watch late? Ugh! I hate getting into classes late. The interruption, the attention, it's too much.

"Elijah, come in." Mr. Allan said said as he noticed me.

"Sorry we're late." I muttered with an apologetic look.

"That's alright, you're not too late. Haven't started yet." He smiled at me. I smiled back.

"That's guy's quite chatty with you. What's up?" Cole asked as we took our seats.

"He's our teacher. What do you mean, 'that guy'?" I said to Cole. "Plus we've been talking a bit recently."

"Why would you talk to a teacher?" Cole asked, his face scrunched up. I gave him a questioning look when our teacher started speaking.

"Okay, so looks like all who wanted to be here, are here already. Let's start." He spoke. "First of all, I'd like to assign you all a project. This will consist of twenty percent of your total annual credit and your exams don't start until the end of next month, so you'll have plenty of time to work on it, do a good job. Also, I will not assign you partners and force you to work with someone you don't want to. So divide yourselves into groups of two and choose a topic, and let me know about it by the end of this period."

There was a sudden uproar of voices as students began discussing. "Quietly!" Mr. Allan said and things quieted down a bit.

"We're working together, right?" Cole asked as I looked through my book to find a topic.

"Of course." I said. Why does he need to ask that? We've always done all projects together; or at least when we had a choice.

~

The topic we chose was Mughal Rule in India. I wanted Colonial Rule in India, but too many people were already working on it so we had to choose something else. We had to choose something to do with Indian history so the topics were limited anyways.

I was currently in the school library looking for books related to the project. I spotted a book high up on the shelf and tried reaching it. Why do people keep books that high? How do they even put it up there? I looked around and there was no one. So I started jumping up trying to grab the book.

"Easy there." Spoke a heavy accent.

"Hi, Mr. Allan." I said, feeling embarassed about how he saw me jumping about like that. He walked towards me as he grabbed the book for me with ease. I'm so envious of tall people! "How tall are you?" I asked without realising.

He looked suprised at that question, but smiled regardless. "I'm 6'4." He replied.

"Sorry, that was so out of the blue." I apologised.

"Oh no need to apologise. I've had quite a few admirers of my height." He joked.

"Well, your height is quite admirable." I only half-joked; because it is.

"But I certainly hope that isn't the only admirable quality in me." He said handing me the book.

"Thank you." I said quietly in almost a whisper. He grabbed a book himself and was walking away when I spoke again. "Would you mind if I asked you a few questions regarding our project?"

"Not at all." He replied.

"If you have any plans, we can talk some other time." I said in the fear of sounding inconsiderate.

"The only plans I had was to borrow this book and head out to my favourite cafe and read it alongside a cup of coffee." He said, but I was still unsure whether it was a good time or he wanted me to come back later. "You are more than welcome to tag along." He said sensing my uncertainty.

I smiled at that. "Thank you." He nodded as to say 'no trouble'. We borrowed the books and he drove us to the cafe. It was a very cool place with a library and bean bags for you to read while drinking coffee. There were tables too of course. Mr. Allan chose a table, thankfully, because I don't know why, but I can never comfortably sit on bean bags.

Once were settled down and had given our orders, I took out my notepad and pen to write down any important pointers that he might give. "Oh you don't have to look so formal. This is just a casual conversation, so you can relax." He gave out a slight chuckle.

"Okay, Sir." I said putting my pen down and closing the notebook, but not putting them away just in case I do need to note down some stuff.

"Oh don't go calling me Sir like that. Feels so formal. Just call me Roy." He said as our coffee arrived.

"But that's what I should call a teacher." I replied. "Ideally."

"Well, I encourage my students to be more friendly. I prefer they call me Roy, instead of Mr. Allan, or sir, that's even worse. Feels so impersonal, you know; like we don't even know each other." He said while sipping on his coffee. "Call me Roy, I insist. At least outside of school premises."

"Okay... Roy." I muttered quietly, the name rolling off my tongue in an unfamiliar, yet satisfying manner.

"It's quite an odd name, innit?" He said and I smiled unsure if what to reply to that. "It is. Doesn't even have a proper ring to it. I don't even know why my mother named me that." And he continued talking about himself. "I'm Scottish actually, in case you were wondering." I wasn't. "But I was born and brought up in London, so I have sort of a mixed accent, you see."

How long is this man gonna talk about himself? Was this a bad idea?

Weirdly enough, every time I read Roy's lines, I read them with an accent, lol. Even though I'm the one writing it. Do you do it too?

Alsoooo, what do we think about the history teacher? Lemme know your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for reading. You know the drill, please vote and comment. And I will see you in the next one. Until then, I love you and byeeee!

~ Mille.
