Chapter 18 : The Date Recap
Kylan's POV
He blurted out, "I think, I'm dating Autumn."
"WHAT?" I practically screamed as my car came to a halt. Then I slowly, pulled to the sidewalk before pulling the brakes and properly staring at him. "When did this happen?" I asked confused. "Also, what do you mean you think you guys are dating?"
"Well..." He trailed off looking scared at my sudden outburst making me feel guilty. Ugh! I'm such a jerk!
"Jay." I spoke in a softer tone. "I am really happy for you." I really am; but I also feel kind of sad and there's this sinking feeling at the pit of my stomach. "I'm just excited to know the story." Trust me, not at all excited!
"Well, it was all so sudden I'm still not sure what it's supposed to mean for us." He said as he dived into explaning what had happened.
~Flashback~
Jason's POV
It was around sixth period and I've had mostly all my classes with Kylan today. As I entered the classroom I found Autumn sitting there.
"Is this seat taken?" I smiled at her. She removed her bag putting it down on the floor beside her chair. I plopped down on the seat beside her. "So how's it going?"
"So far it's great. How's your day been?" She asked.
"It's mostly good. Except I just have this terrible hangover." I replied.
"Well... I have the best cure for a hangover. There is this Asian cafe that serves the best hangover soup ever. You've got to try it out!" She said while working out a few sums.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
"Oh, nothing. Just the assignment we need to hand in today which I still haven't completed. Ugh! Our teacher is gonna give me this huge ass lecture if I don't complete it. I just hope I don't get detention." She kept stress-blabbing. It's a thing she does. She keeps talking without realising how much she's talking when she's stressed. "I don't even know how this slipped my mind. Oh! I'm so screwed."
"I'd love to go to that Asian place with you today, but I've promised Kylan I'll help him pick out his car from where we left it last night. Then we're probably having a sleepover. I mean, I haven't asked him, but he'll say yes, right?" I asked Autumn, feeling nervous about asking Kylan for that sleepover. I mean, we've grown into really good friends so soon. I hope he feels that too, and I'm not the only one. This stress-talking of Autumn is stressing me out too.
"Hey, you know what, let's bunk this class!" Autumn suddenly said looking up from her assignment.
"What?" I asked surprised.
"Yes. Let's do it, pleeeeaase Jason?" She pleaded. "Look, there's no way I can complete this before the end of this class if I wanna do it right. Let's just skip this class. What do you say?"
"I.... don't know." I trailed off.
"Oh come on! Look, let's skip this class and go to that Asian cafe. That way I won't have to face our trig teacher and I'll get plenty time to complete it properly and hand it over to him tomorrow. And in the meantime, you can tell me all about your crazy story of Kylan's stolen car and-" She rambled on already packing up her things.
"Not stolen... yet. Or never I hope." I said getting nervous thinking about what would happen if his car gets stolen.
"Yeah whatever. You can tell me all about the wild night you guys had yesterday, while I get you over this hangover and get you all ready and set for another wild night with Kylan. What do you say?" She said looking hopefully at me, done with packing all her things and ready to leave.
"Um..." I wasn't sure.
"Oh please be quick, Sir will be here any minute." She urged.
"Um... okay, okay... I guess." I replied. She grabbed my hand the moment the words left my mouth and pulled me along and I barely had time to grab my bag but I somehow managed. We rushed out of that class as fast as we could manage and we were running. I had no idea why we were runnning, but we just were.
We somehow managed to sneak out without catching anyone's eye. More like people didn't care enough to notice, and then we were on our way. By the time we reached, we were out of breath and laughing for no reason.
We were standing in front of the cafe called 'Kimchi and Comfort' while catching our breath. "Why did we run all the way here?" I asked.
"No idea." She said smiling at me. Gosh! Her smile is seriously so beautiful! She started laughing again and I joined in too. We laughed like two crazy kids as we enterted the restaurant. We took a seat by the glass wall.
It was a nice little cafe with a cute vibe. There were different board games and books that you could rent. Some people sat there alone reading books or magazines, some group of friends sat together while they played Jenga, Monopoly, etc. It was a whole vibe.
A waiter walks towards us and Autumn ordered for both of us. "Oh, I won't need a menu. We'll have half a serving of your Tteokbokki, a hangover soup, and some Kimchi on the side." She said as the waiter took it down. "Jason, do you want some Korean fried chicken. They make them so good here."
"I think I'll try it." I said.
"Then one of that. Oh! And get us 2 cans of beer." She said with a smile. "That'll be all, thanks."
"So... I've never snuck out of school, have you?" I asked Autumn. Now that the waiter was gone we were sitting in complete silence, so I decided to stir up a conversation.
"Neither have I." She replied. "But I've always wanted to try it out at least once in my lifetime. Plus, today seemed like a good opportunity for that."
"I was soooo nervous." I told her. "I've never felt such a rush. It felt good to break some rules."
"Haha. You're such a goody-two-shoes. If you're this happy with just this, I can already tell we're gonna have huge fun hanging out together." She smiled at me with excitement and a twinkle in her eyes. I smiled back at her. "So tell me about the adventures of last night... which may or may not involve a stolen car."
The colour drained from my face at the thought of that. "Oh please don't say that. If the car gets stolen, Kylan would kill me." I said as I started narrating to her the story of last night.
~
Two beers, one hangover soup, and a whole lot of Korean food later, here we were sitting at the cafe. I was done narrating the story of last night and of this morning, meeting his parents. I told her about how I met Kylan and then his friends and about my budding friendship with Kylan.
"Wow! That's quite some story." She said. "I almost never wanna leave and hear the more of your stories, but I gotta go back to school and meet my friends there. We're going for the movies later today. I'd ask you to join, but you already have plans."
So we paid the bill and we were on our way back to school when Autumn suddenly went "So who is this girl you wanna impress so bad? The one Kylan's helping you with." I might've mentioned something about it when I told her about how I met Kylan. Shit!
"Um... well." I stuttered not knowing what to say.
"Oh come on! You can tell me. I am a really good cupid, you know." Autumn said.
"It's um... it's you." THERE! I SAID IT! "But like in my defence, you're like really smart, and pretty, and so nice. And I'm totally okay with being just friends. I totally wouldn't mind that. In fact-"
"So you finally said it." She said cutting off my rant. She gave me a knowing smile.
"You knew?" I asked feeling stupid.
"Well, I've had my hunch since like the day we started talking. You're not excatly subtle. Then the way you described the 'girl you like' in your story was such a dead giveaway!" She replied all with this big grin on her face which was the only thing stopping me from losing it. Smiling is a positive sign, right? "Plus, I don't think we were ever like friends-friends to begin with. You've always had a crush on me, and from that moment we sat together, I've thought you're cute. I don't think friendship was ever an intention for either of us."
"Wow, okay." I replied. "So... should we just ditch this friendship thing and just date?" I asked and she raised her eyebrows, all the while, the smile never leaving her face. "Oooor maybe not. I mean..."
"Let's date." She said suddenly.
"Oh my God! Is that- are you- what is-" I stuttered.
"Oh don't start panicing again. You've done that way too many times today." She said shutting me up.
I took some time to calm myself down and looked back at her. "So... we're dating then?" I asked.
"Yes. We're dating." She replied. "But you gotta take me out on a proper date though."
~End of Flashback~
"And I've been in a daze eversince, just looking for the right time to tell you." I told Kylan who was patiently listening to my story and all the unnecessary details that came with it. I apprecited him never interrupting me even once during the whole story-telling; not even when the possibility of his car being stolen came up.
"So... what do you think?" I asked him.
