Chapter 16 : Breakfast With The Folks
Kylan's POV
I woke up to the smell of something sweet, like vanilla. Is Mom making breakfast? But we always have cereals for breakfast on weekdays.
I got up and walked out of my bed hating the way my whole body feels. "Ughh! I hate life!" I murmured as I walked down the stairs. When will today end? The day hasn't started yet and I'm waiting for it to end already. As I walk down I see a very handsome looking Jason (he's always handsome though), wearing an apron and cooking in my kitchen.
It looked like one of those scenes from soft p*rn where the scene starts with the hot guy cooking... and the rest just follows. Goddamnit! What's wrong with my mind!
"Hey, what are you doing?" I asked him.
"Oh, good morning, Kyle. I'm making breakfast." He replied. How is he so cheerful, so early in the morning? Especially after last night? Unbelievable!
"What in the world is going on in my kitchen?" Mom screamed as she emerged from her room as well.
"Jason is apparently cooking us breakfast." I replied.
"Oh my God! I did not give you kids the permission to burn down my beautiful kitchen. I am-" Mom did not get to finish as Jason brought in the pancakes.
"We're having pancakes?" I asked.
"Yeah, and I also made grilled cheese, bacon, egg salad, and cute little muffins." He smiled. Wow! If he wasn't seriously into Autumn, and it wasn't highly inappropriate, I'd ask him to marry me right now. "Oh, you can also have cereal if you want, since that's your usual weekday breakfast."
"Okay... wait how do you know my usual breakfast?" I asked skeptically.
"You posted it on your story, idiot." He said it like it was obvious. "And captioned something about how boring it is."
"When was that? I don't remember it." This guy will either work for the FBI or get arrested for stalking.
"A year back, I think." He replied after pondering while bringing in the other items.
"Such a creep, bro." I said sitting down and trying out a few items.
"More like I notice things." He said sitting down beside me after taking off his apron.
"So like- where did you get that apron anyway?" Mom asked.
"Top shelf on the extreme left." He replied slowly serving us the food.
"I didn't even realise we had an apron. Anyways, let's eat. I hope it's edible." Mom said giving Jason a look and he just smiled back.
While all of that was going on, Dad enterted... with no shirt on. Now my Dad is your typical half-balding, fat Indian uncle type, who cracks the wrong jokes and the wrong time. Okay... a little background check on me... my Dad is Indian, who fell in love and married my Mom and was so crazy for her that changed his surname to hers, hence Bergmann is my surname as well. Genetically, I look nothing like my father, but when it comes to personality, despite my better judgement, I'm afraid I am just like him.
"Oh hey. Now who do we have here?" Dad spoke. He wakes up later than all of us, but somehow he's the only morning person among the three of us.
"Dad, please put on a shirt." I said.
"Oh hi." Jason's eyes lit up. I swear, he's like a cute puppy. "Is that Dad? I mean, your Dad, Kylan."
"Yes..." I replied as Dad came back to sit with us; this time, with a shirt on.
"So who might you be?" Dad questioned.
And before me or Jason could get a word in, Mom replied with "Kylan's new boyfriend."
"Oh how nice!" Dad cheered. "How many months along are you?" He asked.
"Dad! It's not pregnancy, what's up with the along?" I screamed. My family is so embarrasing! This is why I don't bring people over.
"Oh, sorry hun. I was just asking how long you've been together." Dad said sounding hurt.
"We're just friends, Dad." I said feeling frustrated.
"Well, that's what I told my family about this one before we got married." Dad joked pointing at Mom. Jason chuckled at that, as Mom cleared her throat. Mom doesn't like my Dad's family, and rightfully so.
"I am Jason Zeigler, Sir. Nice to meet you." Jason smiled as he extended his arm for a handshake which my father took mirroring his expression.
"Sir? Why sir? I'm not your teacher. Haha." Dad laughed at his own joke as usual. "You can just call me uncle."
"Uncle?" Jason asked confused.
"Just call him Marty." I said.
"Yeah that works too. Call me whatever." Dad said with a big smile.
"Okay, Mr. Whatever." Jason shrugged with a mischievious smile.
"Oh my God!" Dad laughed. "He jokes exactly like me! We match each other's vibe so well! Let's be best friends."
"Yes, absolutely!" Jason cheered.
"There's two of them." Mom spoke looking at them. "Do you see it?"
"Yeah I see it Mom." I replied.
As we tried the food we understood how good it actually is. It not only looked and smelled good, it also tasted like it was made by one of those Michelin chefs.
"How do you know to cook so well?" Mom asked.
"Oh there was this guy who used to cook for us, I pestered him to teach me. I annoyed him until he gave in and taught me." Jason smiled.
"Wait... you mean you have a private chef?" Mom asked.
"He's rich, Mom." I replied in a monotone. I know how much Mom hates rich people, especially because Dad's family was rich and they don't treat us well.
"Mhm. This food is really good." Dad spoke. "Jason is such a husband material. You have great choice." Dad patted my back.
"Dad, we're not-" I started, but Jason interrupted me before I could finish.
"Thanks, Marty! That's so sweet of you." Is he not hearing it? My family is just... oh what the hell! They're insane, Jason seems too gullible to understand, so why do I even care. Let's just enjoy the food.
After breakfast was over, Mom and I were in the kitchen cleaning up as she came across a few new ingredients. "Did Jason buy them? We didn't have these at home." She questioned.
"When did he have time to go shop?" I wondered.
"Wow, that's expensive." She said as she flipped the boxes and read the prices. Dad and Jason were at the table cleaning up and laughing about something.
I moved closer to Mom to speak so that Jason doesn't hear us. "He may have overstepped, but he doesn't mean any harm, Mom. He's just... what do I say, a little too naive. I'll let him know that he cannot-"
"You don't have to. He seems like a good kid." Mom said.
"But you don't like rich people." I said.
She sighed. "That's not true. I don't like certain rich people, but Jason isn't one of them. He's nice. Just tell him he need not buy stuff for our kitchen, but if he ever wants to cook, he is most welcome." She smiled. It's rare for Mom to light-heartedly joke around. She's more of a sarcasm person. "I could use some private chef food too, you know. Why should the rich have all the fun?"
Jason walked in with Dad behind him, both of them carrying the dishes. "You both." Mom gestured at them. "Stop goofing around and help me with the dishes." With that we all started cleaning up, while Dad, as usual created a chaos, which Jason found fun, and Mom seemed not to mind too much; which is so unlike her. Everyone, including myself seemed to enjoy Jason's company. I smiled as I looked at him goofing around with my Dad as we all headed out to leave for school and work (except Dad, he's unemployed).
Jason somehow fit our family dynamic so well. He's like this missing piece of puzzle we needed to complete us. He filled that fourth seat on our family dinning table. He made me happy, and by the looks of it, he made my family happy too. I could really get used to waking up to this, I swear.
And that's when it hit me, that maybe, maybe... I like this guy? You know... romantically.
"Okay, Kylan... where's your car?" Mom asked breaking my heart-eyed trance as we all stood there in our garage. Everyone was looking at me and the look on Jason's face told me we're in trouble. Well... Shit!

Hey guys! I'm baaaaack!
So basically, I really enjoy writing the chapters, but I just discovered I don't like the proofreading process so much. But nonetheless, it's a part of my job so I gotta do it. I just really need to stop procrastinating so much before posting.
Anyways, that's enough ranting! Do lemme know what you think of the chapter, if the funny bits are funny at all. Lol.
Aaaaaand I'll see you in the next one!
