Chapter One: New School

TWILIGHT'S POV

I awoke with a start at the sound of my alarm clock blaring next to my ear. I covered myself with my blankets letting it ring. Truth be told, I didn’t want to go to school. Especially not after all the bullying that had occured back at Crystal Prep.

I couldn’t believe that Cadance had thought it’d be a good idea transferring schools. She showed me the drastic comparisons of CHS and my old school, the rate of socialization had boomed upwards starting two years ago. According to her, it was more than destined to happen, since I didn’t have to  move or anything. I lived on the border of both of the competitive schools.

I groaned, pulling my blankets off, turning over to the alarm and turning it off. I rubbed my eyes and put on my glasses, looking at the time.

05:43.

I had thought the previous nights that I should wake up earlier than I usually do, even though it didn’t take me long to get ready. I sat up and stretched, an uneasy feeling hit my stomach. First days always gave me anxiety.

I stumbled off my bed, grabbing my clothes I had left on one of the chairs and continued over to the bathroom. There I washed my face, slid on a pair of black leggings and grabbed a long sleeve purple plaid sweater from my drawer.

Once I was dressed I walked out of the bathroom and sat on my bed, putting my hair up in its usual bun. What if this school is just the same as Crystal Prep? I know I should make friends, but what if they are fake? I don't want history to repeat itself..

I was brought back to reality when I heard a voice call my name, "Twilight, sweetie! I made you some pancakes!" I sighed and walked down the hallway toward the stairs. Once I reached the bottom, I saw my dad, Night Light, in the kitchen with an 'kiss the chef' apron on.

I giggled and sat down at the table. "Thanks, Dad. Although… Last time you made pancakes-" I started to say, but he pushed his finger to my lips, cutting me off.

"Shhh, Honey, we don't talk about that." After he removed his finger, we both burst out laughing. He placed a plate where I was sitting then flopped some golden pancakes onto the plate. "Syrup?" He was already holding the bottle as if expecting me to say yes.

I took the bottle from him and squeezed the contents onto my pancakes until I was satisfied. "Always, I love syrup." He chuckled and left me to eat my pancakes.

Who would've thought that me, a Junior, would already be done with all the SAT's and tests… I guess I'm only taking electives this year… I started thinking about all of the possible electives I could be taking, I already knew I was going to be doing PE/Gym and choir, but what about the others…

TIME SKIP: AT SCHOOL

I reached the tall building towering over me, as I started walking inside, I noticed a girl sitting in the front lawn of the school. She had straight light pink hair and wore an awful lot of green. I saw that she was petting a small, white bunny, must be a pet. I thought.

When I reached the entrance, someone pushed past me and opened the door before I could get to it. All I could see before he whisked past was his dark blue hair and angered expression. I wonder what's up with him… I timidly dragged myself over to the principal's office, which, to my luck, was very close to the entrance.

Opening the door, I trudged into the office to see a tall woman with multi-colored hair. Next to her sat another woman, slightly shorter with hair that looked like the night sky. I cleared my throat, interrupting their conversation. "Hello, um… I'm Twilight Sparkle and just transferred here, could I get my schedule…?"

The taller one replied first. "Why of course!" She walked over to a printer, "Welcome to our lovely school, Twilight, I'm Principal Celestia, and this is my little sister, Vice Principal Luna! I do hope you enjoy it here," said Celestia with much enthusiasm.

After she was done printing, she handed the newly printed schedule to me, "Thank you so much!" I said as I exited the office. I looked at my schedule only to find that my first class was theater. How lucky, my acting is the opposite of my grades… horrible.

I slowly found myself roaming the halls looking for the gym. Once there, I noticed that same girl that was on the lawn. But this time, she was sitting criss-cross on the edge of the stage with her hands fiddling in her lap.

There were three other people in the room besides me and her. One of the people was a female who had blue hair on one side and pink on the other, the ends of her hair looked bouncy, too. The other was a boy, he had green hair and wore a beanie on his head. He's kind of cute… The last of the three was another girl, she had a beautiful royal purple hair color, her hair curled at the ends in a fashionable manner, and her sense in fashion was absolutely amazing!

Who I'm assuming to be the teacher, then entered the room, about eleven other students followed. The teacher walked onto the stage and pet the pink haired girl's head, "Hello, students! For those of you who don't know me, I am Professor Discord, Discord is fine. I am your theater teacher for the year,"

He smiled a devilish grin, he had short black hair and wore a grey-brown shirt with a half purple half blue vest over it, and pants that were half brown and half green. What a strange teacher… this is going to be an interesting year… I thought, skeptically.

As soon as everyone sat down in a chair, he began explaining the basics of theater acting, I already knew I was going to be horrible at this class but I didn't let that get me down.

The girl next to me tapped my shoulder, "Hello, darling, I was wondering where you got your hair done?" It was the purple-haired girl, she seemed friendly.

I smiled. "Oh, this is my natural hair color, the streaks and all," I replied, a small smile visible on my face.

She replied with a frown, "Hm, yes, well, we are going to have to fix that, no?" I looked at her, confused. "My name is Rarity, by the way, I am the queen of all things fashion!" She seemed very enthusiastic. I smiled and turned back to face the teacher.

I saw that the pink-haired girl was still sitting on the edge of the stage, I turned back to Rarity. "Who's she?" I asked in a hushed tone.

Rarity looked back over to me, "Oh dear, that is Fluttershy, darling. Discord is her step-father." I was surprised at the news. Oh, that's why they seem close… I looked back at Discord, and paid attention for the rest of the class.

My next class was Gym, I was not excited. As I entered the classroom, I saw a tall woman with spiky orange hair, she was talking to a younger student with rainbow hair. I walked over to the bleachers and waited for other students to come in. The next person to enter the room was the same blue-haired boy that I saw this morning.

Once the bell rang there were a lot more students in this class than theatre, the orange haired woman started talking. "Alright students, we are starting with roll call, I am Coach Spitfire, but Coach is also okay. Ok, let's begin. Flash Sentry?" The blue haired kid raised his hand. Flash, huh?

She kept listing names, I was patiently waiting for my name to be called. "Lyra Heartstrings?" A minty haired girl raised her hand.

"Applejack?" The girl, who I can only assume is Applejack, raised her hand.

"Twilight Sparkle?" My hand went up subconsciously, she checked off something on her clipboard and started mumbling.

"Rainbow Dash, I already know you're here…" I waited for class to begin.

After she finished with the roll call, she split the gym in half and put boys on one side, girls on the other. She split us into six groups of four on each side. I ended up with Lyra, Applejack, and the rainbow haired one. We were sitting in a square shape on the gym floor, "Alright, these are your groups for the rest of the year, get used to it!" Shouted Spitfire.

I sighed and prepared for the activity we would be doing, Spitfire told us to get acquainted with our group, so Applejack began. "Howdy, ahm Applejack, you can call me AJ. Ah have an older brother, a younger sister and a dog. Who's next?"

The rainbow haired one smiled, "Heya, I'm Rainbow Dash, you can call me RD, Rainbow or Dash, I don't really care. I have a little sister and a cute little tortoise," Rainbow signaled to Lyra, indicating that she was next.

She snapped out of her thoughts. "Oh! Sorry, I'm Lyra Heartstrings, Lyra is fine, and I don't really have siblings, but I do have a girlfriend, Bonbon, and that's about it…" She smiled sheepishly and I took that as my turn to go.

"Um, hi, I'm Twilight Sparkle, please call me Twilight, I have an older brother and a dog." I adjusted my glasses waiting for Spitfire to tell us what we were doing for the day.

Spitfire heard silence and took that as a cue to go on with the day's activity. "Okay! Today we're doing…" she paused for dramatic effect, "Boys against girls dodgeball!!!"

Dammit, I thought when she lined up the rubber balls in the center of the gym.

The class seemed to pass with ease, considering that I was sitting in a hoola-hoop that served as the 'jail' the entire time. After class ended I found myself heading towards the Home Ec classroom, which was across the school from where gym class was.

I reached the classroom, out of breath and stumbled inside. A plump older lady stood in the front of the classroom next to a whiteboard. My eyes traced over the organized classroom, everyone had already settled down and was watching the teacher speak.

I was late. There goes my clean record of not being late to a single class for three years. I adjusted my glasses opening my mouth to speak, but before I could, the lady gave me a welcoming smile.

Everyone’s attention turned over to me, I felt my cheeks turn red from embarrassment. “I-I’m sorry I’m late- my class-” I stammered.

She lifted her hand up, stopping me mid sentence and laughed. “It’s okay deary. I’m about to take attendance. There’s an empty seat next to the pink haired one.”

“Hi I’m Pinkie Pie!” she shouted, her voice echoing throughout the whole classroom. “You must be Twilight, Principal Celestia was talking about the new students. I was supposed to do a tour for you, but then I got caught up with some problem in the cafeteria.”

She giggled, I could barely make out what she was saying. “Apparently someone accidently entered the wrong time to microwave- though who makes popcorn on the first day of school? And who accidently enters twenty minutes instead of two? Anyways, my bestie and cousin, Applejack and I-”

“Pinkamena, that’s enough,” the teacher said with a stern voice. Pinkie pouted, crossing her arms, and sunk into her seat.

“Tell me if that one is too much for you, I can always move you somewhere else,” the teacher whispered to me.

I nodded, hesitantly making my way across the classroom. I sat down, hanging my backpack on the seat. I looked over to Pinkie, who was watching me with a big smile plastered on her face.

I had never seen anyone so excited.

“Alright. For those of you who don’t know, I’m Ms. Smith. I will be your Home Ec teacher here in Canterlot for the rest of the year, so you best be getting used to it. I see some familiar faces from my previous Home Ec classes. Anyways, right, attendance.”

Ms. Smith reached over to her desk, unplugging her laptop. “Dammit, I can’t see anything,” she muttered. A few snickers were heard as she looked for her glasses.

The pink haired girl next to me suddenly stood up waving her hand up in the air. “Ooh, ooh, Granny Smith, can I take the attendance. I practically know everyone here!”

Ms. Smith perked her head up. “Absolutely not. Pinkie, if you interrupt me one more time, I’m sending you to the office.”

    “But Granny...” she whined.

“Enough.” A relieved expression formed on her face as soon as she found her glasses. “Ah, there they are.”

The rest of the class was uneventful, not much happened. When the class was finished, I looked at my schedule seeing that the next class I had was lunch. The “class” that I dreaded most.

As Pinkie walked by, I tapped her on the shoulder. She winced turning around. I bit my lip trying to think of what to say. “You said you knew Applejack earlier?”

She giggled. “I know Applejack? Oh Twily, you’re funny.” She linked her arm with mine, I jumped in surprise. “AJ and I are the best of friends, not to mention that we’re cousins. Since you’re new, would you like to sit with us? It’d be totally fun!!”

    “Of course, yeah.”

She unlinked my arm, then grabbed my hand. “You’re going to love it here!” she told me, then she forced me down the hallway. Pinkie was super fast, I dared not to tell her that my lunch was still in the classroom.

I hope this goes as well as she's expecting it to...
