Chapter Four: Awkward Silence

Sunset's POV

I sat down at the lunch table, Rainbow in front of me. I skipped half of the first period with Starlight, and my eyes still burned from all the crying. I felt numb. And I was dreading lunch the most, at least I’d get to see Twilight.

I was still sad she didn’t remember me, but I realized that I could do something that would jot her memory. Don’t lose faith Sunset.

I sighed, looking at Rainbow who was seated in front of me. She raised the corners of her mouth, as if in attempt to smile.

I rolled my eyes looking away from her. “Where do you think she is?” I asked.

    “Who?”

“Pinkie?” It sounded like I was choking on the air. Did she not hear about what happened this morning?

“Oh. Yeah. I wouldn’t know, it ain’t like I had a class with her before.”

I looked around my group. “Does anyone have any classes with her before this?”

They all shook their heads. I groaned, burying my face in my bacon hair. (A/N: Istg, Sunrise, whyyyy) Shit, it’s already the second day of school and everything is going wrong. Is Twilight even here?

There was a little chatter amongst my friends until something - rather someone - showed up. “Sunset, I’m so sorry,” she told me.

My first response was Twilight?! but then I realized the voice was too high pitched for that to be her. I looked up to see the frizzy pink haired girl in front of me.

“And I know, I know,” she started to say, “There’s nothing I can do to make it right again. And you have every single right to be mad at me and please tell me if there’s anything I could do to make it right…”

I didn’t respond for a few seconds. “Sorry, now that I say it out loud it doesn’t sound as good-”

I sighed. “Don’t worry about it.” The group around me stayed silent, unconvinced I really meant it. “I forgive you, really. I probably would have done the same thing if I was in your place.”

A grin broke out on Pinkie’s face as she leaned forward to pull me into a hug. One thing everyone loved about Pinkie was that she always gives good hugs.

Applejack muttered something to Rainbow, which I heard clearly. “This group forgives way too much.”

Pinkie let go of the hug and skipped over to sit next to Shy. Fluttershy was sitting next to Dash, Dash next to Applejack. And Rarity was next to me, and lucky us, we had a lot more room.

Already, with Pinkie joining us, our little group was booming with more energy. Pinkie seemed to brighten any mood, sometimes people found that annoying - but with the shit that goes on in our group, sometimes that’s exactly what we need.

    Twilight still wasn’t here.

Why am I so dependent on her? She’s only known me for a single day. I wasn’t even sure if I was this way with Pinkie.

Twilight had a richer feeling compared to Pinkie.

Twilight was different.

A good kind of different. The good different where when she walked into a room, everyone looked in her direction. The good different where you wanted to be with her every second of the day.

“Sunset?” I heard Rarity’s voice, bringing me back to reality.

“W-what?” I stammered, everyone was looking at me. My face turned red and I giggled nervously. This must have looked bad after I just forgave Pinkie.

Rainbow looked at me, "You were spacing off, we asked if you were available this afternoon." She tilted her head to the side.

"I uh, yeah, I am… Why?" I asked questioningly when I heard footsteps approaching our table, I turned around to see two heads of a familiar purple hair. Twilight was walking with Starlight over to our table, she smiled and waved.

I smiled back, Starlight sat down next to Rarity and, to my surprise, Twilight sat down right next to me. I heard Pinkie start up a conversation with Flutters and Dash. On the other side of the table, Starlight was telling a story to Rarity and AJ.

I wanted to talk to Twilight, but when I looked back at her, she was just staring at me, when she noticed this, her face became as red as a cherry. My face reciprocated what hers showed, say something you moron! Said a small voice in my mind.

I sighed and decided it was better late than never. I cleared my throat, "S-so, how's your mom doing?" I asked nonchalantly. Shit! You can't say that! She doesn't remember you!

Twilight looked back at me with a shocked look on her face, "... You… You've never… met my mom…?" She stared at me, expecting an explanation.

My eyes darting back and forth, my brain scrambling to come up with something believable. "I uhm… Met her… at the grocery store… yeah! She uh.. said that she was your mom so uhhh, yep." She eyed me suspiciously.

She finally gave up, "Okay, well, she's doing fine, I guess. Thanks for asking… How are you?" I felt my face heat up as she smiled at me.

I fiddled with my finger as I answered her question,"I guess I'm doing alright… With all that had happened with Pinkie recently, I wasn't doing great... " She frowned.

"Oh yeah, what was that? I tried asking Starlight… But she said it wasn't her place to tell…" She glanced down at her hands, which were in her lap, lost in thought.

I subconsciously took her hands in mine, she looked up at me and blushed. "Well you see, me and Pinkie… well, we were dating… A few days ago we had a sleepover at her house and that's when she told me that it wasn't me it was her. And so now I'm single" I said the last sentence with a flat tone.

    Twilight just stared.

Twilight's POV

Sunset finished telling me her story, I felt bad for asking, considering what I saw this morning. She was still holding my hands, I tightened my grip, and gave her a sincere smile, "Well, I wouldn't do that…" I said in a whisper, her cyan eyes looked into mine.

I was left in a daze. We snapped out of it when we realized that the rest of the table went silent, Applejack cleared her throat awkwardly. We quickly moved our hands away and turned back towards the rest of the group, our faces flushed.

Rarity was the first to speak, "Well if that interesting scene is over," if my face got any more red, I would turn into a tomato. "We have a quick question, would any of you like to come over to my house this afternoon? We are going to have chocolate cupcakes!" Rarity exclaimed.

Pinkie was the first to agree, considering, well, cupcakes. All of us decided to go except Starlight, she said she was going to be the assistant for Trixie's magic show this afternoon. Yeah… "assistant" I saw the look on her face.
