Night

Mountain Glenn

There was a faint light coming from one of the dilapidated buildings of Mountain Glenn. Inside, a small camp was set up and the members of the expedition from Beacon were getting ready to sleep. Mats were spread around a small campfire that provided light for the occupants.

Yang: I can't believe we didn't find anything...

Blake: We've always been fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I guess we can't always have luck on our side.

Yang and Blake sat down on mats

Weiss: ...it's not what I meant.

Blake: Huh?

Weiss was just staring at the fire.

Weiss: Earlier, about... upholding the legacy. There's more to it than that.

Weiss looked remorsefully at her teammates.

Yang: Yeah... No, me too. I mean... I don't know.

Blake: I don't know, either... I know what I want to do, but I figured I'd always take things one step at a time.

Yang: Well, it doesn't matter. We know why we're here. Right?

(Y/N): I know why I'm here...

Y/N put down his bag and began to pull out the samples from the day's collection.

(Y/N): I got shot with six darts of tranquilizer.

Small smiles formed on the girl's faces until Oobleck returned.

Oobleck: Ah, wonderful! A textbook campfire! And Y/N, great work today.

Ruby: Fire!

Following close behind Oobleck, Ruby came running in and warmed herself next to the fire.

Ruby: So... warm...

Oobleck: Very good! Eat your dinners and hurry to bed. We have a lot of ground to cover tomorrow and we'll need you to take turns keeping watch over our temporary shelter. Any volunteers for first watch?

Ruby raised her hand.

Ruby: Yo.

Oobleck rushes off, and Ruby gets up to go over to her lookout point. As she passes her sister, Yang asked her a question.

Yang: Hey, did Oobleck ask you why you wanted to be a Huntress? I mean... what did you tell him?

Ruby: Hmm... No, he didn't. Weird. Oh, well. Good night, guys!

Without a second thought, she continues on her way.

If Yang had been expecting an answer, that wasn't it. Weiss and Blake seemed to feel the same way. The night went silently as the members around the campfire fell onto their mats.

Y/N, surprisingly, dozed off first, after checking the samples.

Blake: Hey, Y/N.

Y/N was roused from his sleep when Blake called out to him. Y/N removed Zwei, who was sleeping on his head, and placed him on the ground next to him.

(Y/N): *yawn* Yeah?

Blake: Did Oobleck ask you anything? You know, about what you do?

Y/N shifted on his mat and turned to face Weiss, Blake, and Yang, sitting up on their mats.

(Y/N): Yeah, he did. About, motivation... or something...

Blake: What did he tell you?

Y/N shifted on his mat and tried to go back to sleep.

(Y/N): *yawn* Something about; my actions contradicting what I say... or something. I'm tired I'm going back to sleep.

Blake: Alright...

Weiss rolled her eyes.

Weiss: Wasn't that insightful.

Y/N began to lightly snore, signaling him having fallen asleep.

Yang: Well, he is a non-combat student. I wouldn't expect him to have the same reasons as us. I mean... technically, he's here against his will.

Despite what Weiss and Yang were saying, Blake couldn't help but think about what Y/N had answered.

Blake: What do you think he meant by; "his actions contradicting what he says"?

Yang: I don't know, but if Oobleck told him that, it must mean something

Blake: I guess... do you guys ever wonder where Y/N came from?

Weiss: He's from that town... what was it called?

Yang: Trist.

Weiss: Yeah, he's just some farm hand that saw a crime and is under the protection of Professor Ozpin.

Blake glanced at Y/N once more, listening carefully for his breathing, to make sure he was actually asleep.

Blake: Do you guys... you know... ever wonder who Y/N is?

Yang: He knows how to bake!

Weiss looked at Blake, confused.

Weiss: What's with the sudden interest?

Blake: It's...

Blake hesitated and then sighed.

Blake: You don't find it the least bit strange that a non-combat student and a witness to a crime, no less, was sent on a mission like this?

Weiss: That's... a good point.

Yang: Huh, never thought of it that way. Then again, Ozpin did make an exception for us to go on this mission.

Blake: I guess...

Blake looked down, thinking about everything that involved Y/N.

Weiss: Blake, what's wrong? We're teammates, you can tell us.

Blake: I...

Blake looked at Y/N once more.

Blake: Do you guys remember when Ruby went to Y/N's room, and we all huddled together to try and listen?

Weiss: I think so...

Yang: Yeah?

Blake wiggled her ears beneath her bow.

Weiss: Wait... you could hear them?

Blake: Yeah, I could...

Weiss: What did they-

Yang: What did they talk about!?

Yang jumped in, interrupting Weiss.

Yang: Was it a confession!?

Blake: No! It wasn't anything like that!

Blake glanced back at Y/N before shushing Yang.

Blake: And be quiet! This is important.

Yang settled down and listened closely.

Blake took a deep breath and then exhaled.

Blake: Ruby and Y/N were talking about... scars on his body...

Weiss: Scars on his body?

Yang: Is that all? I mean, I have a couple-

Blake: Ruby sounded worried, Yang.

Blake looked Yang directly in the eyes, sending a serious message to her.

Yang: She did?

Weiss: Have you seen them?

Blake: No, but the way Ruby was acting, it sounded very serious.

Yang: Why don't we just ask him about it?

Blake: I did, so did Ruby. He didn't want to talk about it.

Weiss: I can understand that, some people don't like talking about such things.

Blake still looked concerned.

Yang: What's wrong, Blake?

Blake: I just feel like he's not telling us something. Ruby felt the same way.

Weiss: If he doesn't want to talk about old wounds then you shouldn't push him to.

Blake: I...

Blake wanted to say something but stopped herself.

Blake: You're right... I shouldn't push him.

Weiss: Good. He'll tell us when he wants to, not the other way around.

Blake: Yeah...

Yang: Let's get some shut eye.

The three girls fell back on their mats started drifting to sleep. Except for Blake, who was thinking about what she knew about Y/N. Trist, the scars, the White Fang, Blake felt like there was something else going on, and she was concerned about it.

Blake glanced once more at Y/N before shifting onto her back and falling asleep.

Eventually, the three girls fell asleep and the only sound that could be heard was the crackling of the fire.

A Little While Later

Yang had long since switched out with her sister on guard duty, she stared out of a ruined window, surveying the area, while Ruby was fast asleep on her own mat.

Y/N was sound asleep on his mat until Zwei wiggled off of him and out of the room.

(Y/N): *yawn* Huh? Small dog, where are you going?

Y/N sleepily rubbed his eyes and waited for Zwei to respond. When he didn't, Y/N got to his feet and went out looking for him.

(Y/N): Urrrrghh... You better not be leading me to someone trapped in a well...

Y/N yawned and walked onto the open street.

(Y/N): Where did you go?...

Y/N caught a glimpse of Zwei rounding a corner.

(Y/N): Hey!

Y/N searched around for any Grimm as he ran after Zwei. Eventually, Y/N caught up with Zwei, who was peeing behind a pillar.

(Y/N): Really!? You could have done that literally anywhere!

Zwei tilted his head and stared at Y/N.

(Y/N): ...okay I appreciate you leaving my head before going...

Zwei: *bark*!!

(Y/N): .... I'm talking to a dog, great....

Y/N gestured for Zwei to come over and started heading back for the camp site. That is, until Y/N heard a noise.

(Y/N): Oop! Time to hide!

Y/N and Zwei ran behind a destroyed wall as the noise grew louder. The sound drew closer and closer until it was loud enough to distinguish what it was.

White Fang Member #1: What was that?

White Fang Member #2: What was what?

Seemingly from out of nowhere, two White Fang members--armed--walked out onto the street. Peeking around the corner, Y/N could see the two sentries.

(Y/N): It's-

Y/N glared at the two guards.

Ruby: The White Fang...

(Y/N): Skeletons- Aahh! Ruby!

White Fang Member #1: That!! You hear that!?

White Fang Member #2: Nope. I still don't hear a damn thing...

Behind the ruined wall, Y/N was startled by Ruby.

Ruby: (whisper) Could you freak out a little quieter?

(Y/N): (whisper) Could you not scare me!?

Ruby: (whisper) Hehe... Sorry.

Ruby looked over the wall.

Ruby: (whisper) Let's follow them.

(Y/N): (whisper) Shouldn't we go back and get the others?

The White Fang members began to walk away.

Ruby: (whisper) We can't lose them, come on!

Ruby silently dashed off after the patrol. Y/N sighed.

(Y/N): You agree this is a bad idea, right Zwei?

Y/N looked to his left to find Zwei missing.

(Y/N): Zwei?

Zwei was following closely behind Ruby as she ran after the patrol.

(Y/N): (whisper) Oh, come on.

Cursing himself, Y/N ran after the pair.

(Y/N): This is such a bad idea...

Ruby smirked.

Ruby: Come on! It'll be fun!

(Y/N): This is not what I would call "fun"...

Ruby, Y/N, and Zwei followed the patrol to a dead end.

Ruby: Did they go in yet? One bark means yes.

Ruby held Zwei up around the corner.

Zwei: *bark*!

Ruby turned back around.

Ruby: Oh! This is it! This is it!

(Y/N): Please don't tell me you want to go in there.

Ruby: This is why we're here! We have to get back!

(Y/N): I really don't like we're this is go- ah!

Ruby and Y/N froze in place when the very ground beneath them began to sag.

Ruby: Uh oh...

Seconds later the street under the feet collapsed, revealing a huge hole.

(Y/N): Aaaahh!!!

Ruby: Aaaahhh!!!

Ruby, Y/N, and Zwei began to fall through the newly formed hole in the ground. The sudden drop caught all three off guard, Ruby ended up dropping her Crescent Rose to the side. Thinking fast, Y/N grabbed Zwei, mid-fall.

(Y/N): I'm gonna need you to be like Lassie, Zwei!

Zwei: *bark* !!!

Y/N tossed Zwei up and out of the hole as they fell. Fortunately, Zwei safely landed on the street. The small dog looked over the hole that Ruby and Y/N fell through before running back to camp.

Mountain Glenn Underground

Ruby: Aaaahhh!!!

(Y/N): Whyyyyyy!?!?!?!

The the hole Ruby and Y/N fell into led to a massive underground city, much like the one above. The two eventually came to a stop onto a skyscraper.

Ruby and (Y/N): Ow!!!

Ruby and Y/N stumbled to their feet.

Ruby: Ow... you okay?

Y/N rubbed his head.

(Y/N): Why does stuff like this happen to us?

Ruby: I know what you mean. Now, where-

Before the two of them could get their bearings, the door leading to the roof burst open, revealing two White Fang members.

White Fang Member #1: Freeze!

White Fang Member #2: Where did they come from?

Ruby tried to reach for her scythe, only to find out that it was gone.

Ruby: Oh no...

White Fang Member #2: You're two are a long way from home.

(Y/N): You have no idea...

White Fang Member #2: Shut up!

The two guards trained their weapons on the two students.

White Fang Member #1: Grab em'

One of the guards approached Y/N, who raised his hands.

(Y/N): I surren-

The guard punched Y/N in the face, sending him falling to the ground.

(Y/N): -der...

Ruby: Hey, leave him alon-!

Ruby tried jumping in but was halted in her tracks when the other guard knocked her out with his gun.

The guards grabbed the two unconscious students.

White Fang Member #1: Let's take these guys to the boss.

Mountain Glenn Surface

Yang: Hey Weiss, it's your...

Yang returned to the campsite from her post outside, only to find two members of the group missing.

Yang: Where's Ruby and Y/N?

Oobleck: What?

Oobleck, who was resting on a protruding beam on the ceiling, looked down to count the students below.

Zwei: *bark* !!

The noise woke Weiss and Blake from their slumber.

Blake: What's going on?

Oobleck jumped down and fixed his glasses.

Oobleck: Grab your weapons! Two members of this expedition could be in danger. Zwei, lead the way.

Zwei: *bark* !!

The group quickly packed up the campsite and followed Zwei out onto the street and toward the newly opened hole.

Yang: Ruby's scythe!

Yang ran and picked up Ruby's scythe.

Blake: Oh no.

The group carefully approached the collapsed street.

Weiss: Do you think she fell?

Oobleck: Fell?

Oobleck looked overhead.

Weiss: Down there.

Oobleck: Oh my... Of course! Of course, of course!

Blake: What is it?

Oobleck: How could I be so stupid?!

Oobleck began pacing back and forth.

Yang: Dr. Oobleck, what's wrong?

Oobleck: Mountain Glenn! Yes, an expansion of Vale that was inevitably destroyed by creatures of Grimm! Previously home to thousands of people! Developed a subway system to the inner city! Grimm attacks increased! Population in danger, now desperately searching for shelter! City evacuates into the metro tunnels and what do they find? The southeast quadrant of Vale is known for wild forests and deep caves!

Oobleck began to connect the pieces that were right in front of him

Yang: Doc, what are you saying?

Oobleck: My dear, we're not just looking for an underground crime network!

Oobleck grabbed Yang by the shoulders.

Oobleck: We're looking for an underground crime network!

Blake: They've been working in caves?

Oobleck: No, no, Mountain Glenn was Vale's first serious attempt at expansion. It worked for a short period of time, thanks to an aggressive perimeter defense. The city developed an elaborate subway system to carry citizens safely from the new territory into the main Kingdom! Sadly, without the many natural barriers Vale had to protect its borders, Mountain Glenn was doomed from the start! As the end drew near, the citizens of the territory made one last attempt at survival: They took up shelter beneath the city! In massive caves that they had cleared out for the subway. And they had cut themselves off from the surface!

Yang: An underground city?

Oobleck: In a manner of speaking, yes. A safe haven. Until... an explosion opened the mouth of another cavern, filled with subterranean Grimm. After that, the Kingdom officially sealed off the tunnels, creating the world's largest tomb.

The girls looked down the darkened hole with trepidation.

Oobleck: If Ruby and Y/N are down there...

Oobleck pulled out his thermos and extended to a type of club.

Oobleck: we must find them...

Mountain Glenn Underground

White Fang Member #1: The boss wants to see what we brought him.

White Fang Member #2: Is he still by the loading area?

White Fang Member #1: Yep. Let's go.

The White Fang members that caught Ruby and Y/N dragged the two students through their operation beneath Mountain Glenn.

Ruby: Ugh...

Ruby brought herself back to consciousness in time to see both herself and Y/N being dragged through the criminals' camp.

Ruby looked around, trying to figure out where they were and how they could escape.

Ruby: (whisper) Y/N! Y/N!

Ruby started whispering to her fellow prisoner.

(Y/N): (whisper) Ruby, why is it that whenever I'm with you guys I end up at gunpoint by a bunch of psychos?

Ruby dryly chuckled.

Ruby: (whisper) Sorry... do you see a way out of-

The White Fang guard that was carrying Ruby violently shook her.

White Fang Member #2: Shut it human!

The captured students were taken passed a train, currently being packed with different cases and weapons by the large mech that Ruby had fought before.

(Y/N): Are those giant robots!?

Ruby: Oh no... they have more paladins...

White Fang Member #2: I said shut it!

Eventually, Ruby and Y/N were brought to a familiar figure.

???: Hurry it up people! We don't have all day!

Ruby: That's... not good.

(Y/N): Oh god, it's the crazy guy who brings a rocket launcher to rob a store...

After rounding a large container, Ruby and Y/N were brought face to face--once again--with Roman Torchwick.

White Fang Member #1: Hey boss! Found something you might want to see!

Roman: Is it good or bad? Because let me tell ya, I have had a day.

White Fang Member #1: Uh, it's a little girl and boy?

Roman turned to face the two White Fang Members.

Roman: Well, well, well. What a surprise! Not a good one, but a surprise none the-

Roman noticed that along with Ruby was Y/N.

Roman: You!

(Y/N): Me?

Roman: Put 'em down.

The two criminals threw their captives onto the ground and trained their weapons on them.

(Y/N): Ow.

Ruby: Ah! Hey!

Roman: You!

Roman pointed to a group of White Fang that were nearby.

Roman: Come over here!

The group of seven White Fang Members surrounded the students and aimed their guns at them.

Ruby: You won-

Roman: Ah ah ah!

Roman interrupted Ruby by pointing his cane at her face.

Roman: Train your weapons...

Ruby glared at Roman, ready for anything.

Roman: at him.

Except for that.

Roman shifted his aim from Ruby to Y/N, surprising both of them. The other White Fang members followed their leader and shifted their aim at Y/N, who had his hands behind his head.

(Y/N): Isn't this a bit excessive!?

Roman grinned at Y/N's question.

Roman: You'd like people to think that, wouldn't you?

Ruby: Leave him out of this! This has nothing to do with him!

Roman chuckled.

Roman: Oh Red, this has everything to do with him.

(Y/N): What did I ever do to you!?

Roman: That's a stupid question, you've done a lot to me. In fact, you're more of a problem than Red here.

(Y/N): Oh come on, I've met you like... once! I'm nobody!

Roman: And yet somehow, you're one of the most sought after person in the kingdom.

Ruby: What are you talking about?

Roman: What? You don't know?

Roman glanced between the two of them.

Roman: Oh! That's right, you think he's just some weak kid that was wrapped up in something way over his head. Don't you?

Ruby just glared at Roman.

Roman: Well let me tell you...

Roman brought himself eye level to the Huntress-in-training.

Roman: ...he's anything but weak.

Ruby glanced at Y/N who also had a confused look on his face.

Roman got back up and addressed his subordinates.

Roman: Take the boy to the landing pad, we'll transfer him to our benefactors as recompense for the dock fiasco.

White Fang Member #1: On it boss!

Roman: As for you, Red...

BOOM

Roman was interrupted when he heard a faint explosion nearby.

Roman rolled his eyes.

Roman: Of for the love of... you boys go find out what that was, I'm kinda in the middle of som-

BOOM

Another explosion rocked the area, this time accompanied by gunfire.

Roman turned to look at where the sounds were coming from.

Roman: What is going on here!?

Looking down the camp, Roman noticed a group of White Fang battling an unknown enemy. That is until another explosion sent those White Fang flying and coming around the corner was the rest of Ruby and Y/N's group.

Roman What the!?

(Y/N): Time to go!

While the White Fang members were distracted, Y/N shot up and grabbed one of the Faunas criminals and quickly swung him around, batting down the other six.

White Fang Member #3: Augh!

White Fang Member #4: Gah!!

By the time Roman had noticed what was going on, Ruby got to her feet and kicked him, causing Roman to stumble backward.

Roman: Oh you little-

Before Roman could retaliate, Y/N threw the member he grabbed, sending both Roman and his henchman to the ground.

Ruby: Wow Y/N! That was pretty-

(Y/N): We're leaving!

Y/N wasted no time in grabbing Ruby and running toward the rest of their group.

Weiss: There they are!

The group noticed their missing party members running toward them and started to run to meet them.

Roman: Get off me!

Roman threw the Faunas that was on top of him off and got back to his feet.

Roman: Grr! Somebody kill them!

Roman and the group of White Fang that Y/N and Ruby left behind got up and began to fire at the fleeing students.

Ruby: Watch out!

(Y/N): Woah shit!

Thinking fast, Y/N got between them and Ruby and brought his arm up, unfolding the shield that was embedded in his arm guard. The bullets harmlessly ricocheted off the shield.

Ruby: Good thinking Y/N!

(Y/N): Wow! This shield is so useful. Why have I never thought about getting a shield before!?

Ruby: You're welcome! Let's go!

While Y/N held his shield up, him and Ruby made their way back to their group under a hail of gunfire.

Roman, infuriated that he failed yet again, turned to one of the White Fang.

Roman: Attach this cart and spread the word: We're starting the train.

White Fang Member #7: But we're not finished!

Roman hit the Faunas in the stomach with his cane.

Roman: Do it or you're finished!

Ruby and Y/N kept running until they came face to face with another group of White Fang.

Ruby: *gasp*

(Y/N): Oh crap!

Before the group of criminals could open fire, an explosion knocked all of them away.

Yang: Ruby! Y/N!

Weiss: Are you guys okay?

Ruby: We're fine, we're fine!

(Y/N): Speak for yourself!

Ruby: Listen! Torchwick's got all kinds of weapons and robots down there.

Blake tossed Ruby her scythe.

Blake: What?!

Ruby: Androids, mechs, they're all loaded up on the train cars!

Oobleck: Ahhhh, that's ridiculous. These tunnels are sealed, the tracks lead to a dead-end.

Right as Oobleck stated this, Roman began to speak over some loud speakers.

Roman: Get to your places, we are leaving now!

Moments later, the idle train began to move on the tracks and down the tunnel.

Yang: Well, it sounds like they're going somewhere.

Ruby: We need backup. Let me call Jaune.

When Ruby tried to call for help she was stopped when her Scroll stated: Low Signal.

Ruby: I can't get through!

Weiss: So, what do we do?

Oobleck: I believe we only have one option...

Ruby turned around and readied her weapon.

Ruby: We're stopping that train!

White Fang Train

On the train one of the White Fang looked back to see if the group of intruders were following. As they did so, they heard a noise.

White Fang Member #6: I think they're on the-

Before they could finish, Oobleck knocked them off the train.

Now on the roof of the locomotive, the party prepared to assault the rest of the train.

(Y/N): Y'know, when I woke up the other day I was thinking: "Wow! I'm going to have a great assignment! One without somebody trying to kill me"! Instead I'm on a train filled with fanatic terrorists armed to the teeth, on a runaway train headed to a dead end, beneath a city filled with Grimm!

Yang: Yeah, it's been a pretty wild day huh?

(Y/N): That does not make me feel better!

Weiss: Err... this probably won't make you feel any better.

Weiss opened the hatch into the train car they were standing on.

Weiss: What's that?

Oobleck looked down the hatch at what Weiss was looking at.

Oobleck: That my dear... appears to be a bomb.

(Y/N): A what!?!?!

Y/N ran to the hatch and looked down to see the bomb.

(Y/N): Why!?

Ruby: We've got baddies!

Ruby pointed toward the head of the train to see dozens of White Fang climbing on top and start making their way toward them.

Oobleck: Well, I didn't expect them to go-

The bomb underneath them lights up and starts beeping.

Oobleck: -easy on us.

(Y/N): Why is the bomb beeping now!?

Oobleck: Time to go! Blake! Detach the caboose! It will kill us all!

Blake: On it.

As the group begins to run to the next car, Blake jumped down to the connectors and prepares to cut it. Only to mid swing when the car detaches itself.

Blake: Huh?

Blake jumped back onto the roof and looked at Oobleck

Blake: It decoupled itself!

Oobleck: What?!

Yang: I guess he really doesn't want us on this train.

As Oobleck looks back to see the detached cart fall behind and then explode in the tunnel.

Oobleck: That's not good...

Ruby: Err, neither is this!

Ruby opened the hatch to the next car, to reveal another bomb inside.

Blake: Another bomb?!

(Y/N): Who needs that many bombs!?

Oobleck: No. No. No.

Oobleck hurriedly runs to the next can and opens the hatch.

Oobleck: They all have bombs!

Right as the discovery is made, the bomb under the students lights up and starts beeping and the cart they're on detaches itself, forcing them to run to the next cart.

Yang: This doesn't make sense!

(Y/N): More crazies incoming!

Ruby: Y/N use that shield to give us cover!

(Y/N): Everytime with you guys...

Y/N jumped ahead and brought up his shield, blocking the incoming fire from the White Fang.

As the group of students began to engage the White Fang, Oobleck turned around and watched as the detached train car exploded. Only this time, the hole it created began allowed a huge swarm of Grimm to fall in and start following the tracks.

Oobleck: He's leading Grimm to the city!

Weiss: What?

Oobleck: It's the cars! They detach and explode, creating openings for the Grimm!

Blake: That's insane!

(Y/N): This whole scenario is insane!

Once again, a train car detached itself and began to fall behind.

Oobleck: We have to hurry!

Oobleck pointed to Weiss, Blake, and Yang.

Oobleck: You three, go below and try to stop those bombs!

Ruby: What about us?

Oobleck: We're going to stop this train.

(Y/N): Yeah, Ruby... already said that.

Oobleck: Right.

After Weiss, Blake, and Yang made their way into the train cars, Oobleck, Ruby, Y/N, and Zwei were preparing to move forward when the stolen Paladins from Atlas jumped on top of the train and began to rush them.

(Y/N): Giant robots now!?

Oobleck: Allow me.

Oobleck took a sip from his thermos before transforming it into its weapon mode, a small flame burning at from it's tip.

Zwei: *bark* !!

Oobleck smirks as Zwei jumps in the air and he bats him like a baseball turning the small dog into a deadly fireball.

The fireball that is Zwei slams right into the charging Paladin causing an explosion forcing the Paladin off the train and to the ground below. Zwei harmlessly lands on the train unscathed.

Ruby and Y/N look at Oobleck with a mixture of surprise and awe.

Ruby: That was so cool! You turned Zwei into a fireball!

(Y/N): You drink from that!?

Oobleck smirked.

Oobleck: Yes, well-

Oobleck didn't have time to gloat as another Paladin began to rush them.

Oobleck: There will be time for answers later, for now attack!

Below in the train cars, Weiss, Blake, and Yang, entered the first car.

Yang: I guess this is what we trained for.

Weiss reached into her pouch and gave Blake a magazine filled with Dust vials.

Weiss: Here, this should help you.

Blake: Thanks.

As the three girls move through the car, a fourth girl falls from the ceiling, blocking their path. The familiar white, pink, and brown, girl silently smiled at the students in front of her.

Yang: You two go on ahead. This one's mine.

Yang cracked her knuckles and approached Neo.

Neo merely grins more and allows Weiss and Blake past her, leaving just her and Yang.

Yang steps forward until the two are face to face. Despite Yang being significantly taller than her opponent, Neo didn't show even the faintest hint of doubt on her smiling face.

Yang grimaced and threw her fist at Neo, only for her to parry it and kick her on the side of the head.

Yang: Agh! Why you little- Gah!

Still dazed, Neo used her umbrella to hit Yang in the stomach and kick her back toward the back of the car.

Yang: Grr! You're going to regret that!

Yang eyes turned red as she began to launch projectiles at Neo, who deftly dodged them.

Yang: Hold still!

Yang charged at Neo and began to throw a flurry of punches at the her assailant.

From the outside, it was abundantly clear who the better fighter was.

Neo continued to grin at Yang who's strikes and kicks were constantly blocked or parried.

Yang: Raah!! Stop mov- Augh!!

Neo was clearly enjoying toying with Yang. Neo took full advantage of Yang's rookie fighting style and easily outmatched her.

After a devastating series of counter attacks from Neo, Yang fell back and clutched her side, panting.

Neo sat comfortably on a crate in the car, like this was a walk in the park for her, which frustrated Yang more.

Seconds later, the car violently shook and a loud sound of metal crashing was heard overhead. The two fighters looked up and saw that the roof of the car was slightly inverted.

(Y/N): Aaaaaahhhhh!!!!

The two looked out the side window to see Y/N hanging outside the train on one of the arms of a Paladin.

(Y/N): When I say left, I meant my left!

Ruby: Sorry!

BOOM

Another explosion shook the car causing Y/N to start being shaken and eventually slam into the train car's window, cracking it.

(Y/N): Ow!! Hey, watch it up there!

Oobleck: My apologies!

Zwei: *bark*!

(Y/N): Oh, for the love of....

Y/N adjusted his gaze to the inside of the car to see Yang at the back and Neo right next to where he was hanging.

(Y/N): ._.

Neo had a look of surprise on her face, which slowly shifted to a devious smile.

(Y/N): No....

Neo slowly nodded.

(Y/N): No! No! No! No! No!

Neo nodded faster.

(Y/N): Pull me up! Pull me up!

Y/N struggled right as Neo began to strike him with her umbrella.

(Y/N): Ow! Hey! Is this about the docks? I'm sorry!

Neo smirked and hit Y/N again.

(Y/N): Ow! I am not a pinata!

Before Neo could strike again, Yang renewed her attack on Neo.

Yang: Oh no you don't!

Yang pulled Neo's attention away from hitting Y/N.

(Y/N): Thanks Yang!

Yang: Save it and get out of there!

(Y/N): I know!

Y/N began to pull himself up only for the arm to hit one of the supports of the tunnel, causing the arm to shake violently again and move the disabled mech further off the edge.

(Y/N): Woah!!

Y/N ended up swing into another window of the car.

(Y/N): Can't I catch a break!?

Yang: Augh!

Y/N managed to hear Yang fall to the ground through the window. Shifting his weight to turn around, Y/N managed to see Yang out cold on the floor with Neo standing over her.

Neo looked Y/N dead in the eyes and smiled.

Y/N's eyes darted between Yang and Neo.

(Y/N): Don't even think about it you mute maniac!

Neo's smirk grew wider as she pulled the handle out of her umbrella, revealing a sharpened spike.

Y/N put his feet on the glass of window and prepared to jump in. However, something on the other end of the car caught his eye.

(Y/N): Who is that?

Right as Neo was about to kill Yang when her blade was stopped by another. Jumping back Neo discovered that someone else had joined their fight.

The woman wore a dark-red and black dress with armored attachments. She had long black hair with red-highlights. The most outstanding thing about the mysterious woman was her full-mask that looked like one of the Grimm.

The woman stood between Yang and Neo, she slammed her hilt into the large sheath on her hip and after a faint whirring sound emerged with a long, sharpened, red blade.

Neo was clearly afraid of this woman and after weighing her options, retreated, disappearing into dust.

(Y/N): Well... that's new.

The woman instantly turned her head toward Y/N.

(Y/N): Uh...

The woman aimed her blade at Y/N, uncaring for the situation he was in.

(Y/N): Seriously!? You're here to kill me too!?

Before the woman could do anything Yang began to stir. The woman glanced at Yang then proceeded to sheath her weapon.

(Y/N): H-hey! Who are you?

The woman didn't respond and merely kept walking to the other end of the car. Suddenly, a red portal appeared in front of her.

(Y/N): W-wait! Could you at least help me in!?

The woman ignored Y/N's cries and disappeared through the portal.

Y/N sighed.

Yang: Augh... what happened?

Yang stumbled to her feet, still sore from her fight.

Yang: Huh? Where did that girl go?

Yang searched around for Neo, who had disappeared. After realizing she was gone, Yang clenched her fist in frustration.

Yang: That little-!

Yang was brought out of her thought when she heard knocking on the glass behind her. Turning around, Yang was face to face with Y/N, who was still hanging on outside.

Yang: Wah! Y/N!

The mech slid further off the train.

(Y/N): Q_Q Let me in!!!!

The mech began to finally slide off the train making Yang rush to open the window and get Y/N inside.

Yang: Get in here!

(Y/N): Thank you!

Y/N just managed to swing in as the Paladin fell off the train and crash into the tunnel wall.

(Y/N): *pant* *pant* Thank you! I was out there for... like.... forever!!!! *pant*

Yang: No problem. Let's get out of here.

(Y/N): Finally, something we agree on.

As the two of them began to leave Yang looked back, having a brief feeling of familiarity for some reason.

The members of team RWBY regrouped on top of the engine of the train.

Blake: Is everyone alright?

Weiss: I've been better.

Ruby: Where's Yang and Y/N?

Yang: Over here!

Yang climbed on to the engine and rejoined her teammates.

Ruby: Glad to see you're okay.

Ruby was relieved to see her sister was alright.

Yang: No problem.

Yang smiled and gave her sister a thumbs up.

Blake: Where's Y/N?

(Y/N): Still alive!

The four members of RWBY looked behind them to see Y/N sticking his head up over the train car.

Weiss: What are you doing over there?

Yang: Yeah! Get up here!

(Y/N): Hell no! I'm not going onto the roof of a runaway train that's careening toward a dead end!

The four Huntresses-in-training looked at each other and then back toward the front of the train as Y/N reminded them of what was happening.

Yang: Wall!!!!!

Yang pointed toward the incoming dead end that the train was fast approaching.

Blake: What now?

Ruby looked at Weiss and nodded to her.

Weiss summoned a glyph and encased the group in a shield of ice right as the train collided with the wall.

Early Morning

The City of Vale

Ruby slowly regained consciousness and rubbed her head.

Ruby: Ow... not one of my better plans.

Ruby looked around and saw that her fellow teammates were waking up as well. As her senses returned, Ruby began to hear a loud blaring alarm that filled the city, which caused her to cover her ears momentarily.

Yang: Everyone okay?

Weiss: Yeah.

Blake: We should really stop crashing into things.

Yang: Nah.

Ruby: Wait, where's Y/N?

Ruby quickly looked around for their missing classmate.

Weiss: Wasn't he with you?

Weiss looked at Yang.

Yang: He was! He was right behind me!

Blake: Was he still on the train!?

Weiss: We need to get back down-

Vale Citizen: Aaaaaahhh!!!

The four girls' attention was brought back to the street when they saw civilians running from an Ursa that had come through the hole.

Weiss: What do we do?

As the question was asked another Grimm slithered through the breach that was made by the train. The enormous snake-like Grimm emerged from the tunnels and hissed at the four members of RWBY. Flanking the King Taijitu, were various other Grimm; Ursa, Beowolves, and more.

The girls readied their weapons as they found themself completely surrounded by the Grimm that came from the tunnel. Ruby looked around and then glanced back at the hole that they came through.

Ruby: We have to clear out the Grimm that came through. After the area is clear we can head back down to the tunnel and get Y/N out.

Weiss: What about the rest of the Grimm down there?

Blake: I doubt Y/N is still conscious, so the Grimm will probably ignore him and head straight for the city.

Yang: I don't like that plan, but it's the best we're gonna get, isn't it?

Ruby slammed a magazine into her Crescent Rose

Ruby: Let's finish this fast then.

Underground Tunnel

Grimm trampled over the the ruined train cars as they marched into the city above.

In one of the cars that was one its side, the hatch on the top of the car opened up, revealing a muscular man with a White Fang mask on. He crawled out of the car and fell onto the ground.

White Fang Lieutenant: Gah! Son of a...

The man used the train car as a balance to help himself stand up. The man stumbled to the wall and grabbed his head to try and gather his bearings. Before he could do anything the man hid as he watched one of the Paladins they had stole fly out of the breach, piloted by what sounded like a dog.

White Fang Lieutenant: Ugh... that Schnee witch!

The man had been soundly beaten by Weiss and Blake and clearly resented them for it.

White Fang Lieutenant: When I get out of-

(Y/N): (muffled) Hello!? Anyone out there?

White Fang Lieutenant: What the?

The man turned to one of the cars that was derailed in the tunnel. The man walked toward the car and opened the hatch. Looking inside, the man saw a one of the intruders that attacked their train.

(Y/N): Oh! Hello! Can you get me out of here?

Y/N was pinned underneath the train car that had fallen on its side. Y/N was trapped by one of the windows into the car and the cement ground.

(Y/N): I could use some assistance.

The man smirked under his mask.

White Fang Lieutenant: Oh, I'll help you alright...

The man pulled a piece of broken metal off of the car.

(Y/N): Seriously!? Have you seen what's going on!?

White Fang Lieutenant: All of this, is because of you and your irritating friends!

(Y/N): How did you think a train running into a dead end would end!?

White Fang Lieutenant: Shut up! I may not be able to kill a Schnee...

The man aimed the sharpened piece of broken metal at Y/N.

(Y/N): ._. Uhhh.... Buddy?

White Fang Lieutenant: ...but I can kill you!

(Y/N): Wait! There's a-!

ROAR

Before the man could spear Y/N through the chest he was ambushed by an Ursa that came from deeper in the tunnel.

White Fang Lieutenant: Aaaaahhhh!!!!

The Ursa swiped the man away before pouncing onto its now prone prey.

White Fang Lieutenant: Gaaaaahhhh!!!

(Y/N): ._.

Y/N laid quietly as the Ursa began to tear into the man that was going to kill him.

(Y/N): *sigh* Today is the worse day...

The screaming continued for a few seconds more before all that could be heard was a loud gurgling sound and then silence.

(Y/N): Great... how can this day get any worse?

Answering that question, the Ursa that killed the White Fang member turned and looked into the train car.

(Y/N): Uh...

The Ursa roared right in Y/N's face.

(Y/N): Ahhh!!! That's so loud!!

The roar brought a group of Beowolves over that began to jump and claw at the train car. The Grimm began to tear into the train car in an attempt to get to the helpless prey that they saw.

(Y/N): Alright, no more of this.

Y/N moved his legs so that his feet were flat on the car and then pushed. Hard.

The 300,000 lb. train car suddenly and without warning, was hurled into the air, slamming into the ceiling and then crashing onto the ground, crushing the Grimm that were on it.

Y/N got to his feet and dusted himself off.

(Y/N): Ugh... driving a train right into a dead end... Why do I always end up with the crazy ones?

Y/N looked toward the hole in the tunnel. Listening carefully, Y/N could here the sounds of gunfire and explosions in the city above.

(Y/N): Welp, better get up-

ROAR

Before Y/N could begin climbing up, a loud roar pulled his attention down the tunnel.

(Y/N): Oh what the...

A literal swarm of Grimm were charging down the tunnel toward the hole that led to the city. Countless Grimm of different shapes and sizes stampeded down the tunnel, shaking the ground as they approached.

Y/N looked back up toward the city, and then back toward the Grimm.

(Y/N): Hmmmm....

Y/N took a quick look around.

(Y/N): Nobody is here. Perfect!

Y/N cracked his knuckles and started to walk toward the incoming swarm of Grimm.

(Y/N): Just like old times...

Y/N grinned and flexed his had, forming his shield on his left arm.

The approaching Grimm saw Y/N, alone on the tracks and roared as they sped up to attack the lone prey that stood in their way.

(Y/N): Eh. I can enjoy myself a little here.

The first (unfortunate) Grimm that came charged at Y/N was a large Beowolf that howled as it leaped at its target. The last thing the creature saw was a smirk and a fist flying at its face.

Back at the battle above, the fight expanded as droves of students and Huntsmen from Beacon joined RWBY in containing the Grimm assault. Even the Atlesian military joined the fray as drop-ships and the large flying battleships began to deploy robotic soldiers to help clear the streets.

Ruby finished off a Boarbatusk with a swift slash to its underbelly. Looking around, Ruby smiled as the droves of Grimm that had made it into the city were being cut down by its defenders.

Ruby: Guys! I'm gonna go get Y/N!

Yang: All right!

Weiss: Don't take too long! We need to shut that opening before more Grimm come through!

Ruby: I'll be quick!

Ruby dashed into the breach and down into ruined tunnel below.

Ruby carefully made her way through the wreckage of the tunnel and train.

Ruby: Y/N!

Ruby tried to call out to Y/N to see if he could hear her.

Ruby: I guess he's further in...

Ruby kept moving down the tunnel and eventually she thought she could hear something.

Ruby: Y/N?

The sounds became louder and clearer the further down she went. As Ruby walked around a derailed train car she was suddenly caught off guard when a King Taijitu suddenly slammed into the wall of the tunnel.

Ruby: Aaah!!

Ruby jumped back and aimed her weapon at what appeared to be an attacking Grimm. However, when the dust settled it turned out that the large snake Grimm was missing its lower jaw.

Ruby: What happened to-

(Y/N): Wham!!!

Ruby turned her attention away from the mangled Grimm to down the tunnel.

Ruby: Y/N!

Ruby ran around the train car.

Ruby: Y/N are you all... right...?

Ruby slowed to a stop as she saw something she couldn't believe. A sea of Grimm corpses. Ruby looked in awe as she walked by the corpses of countless Grimm. Some corpses were embedded into the walls and ceiling, others had their heads crushed, and a few were downright missing half of their bodies.

Ruby: Woah... what happened here?

BOOM

The tunnel shook as what seemed like another explosion occurred in the underground passageway.

(Y/N): Oh no you don't!

Ruby heard Y/N shout and when her head turned in the direction it came from, she watched as a Grimm flew into the ceiling and hung from the ceiling like a freaky ornament.

Ruby: What was that!?

Ruby rushed to where the noise was coming from and--once again--stopped herself when she saw what was happening.

(Y/N): Bye!

Y/N pulled his shield back to him and spun quickly around, using the edge of the shield to decapitate a Beowolf that was behind him.

(Y/N): So far so good.

Y/N stopped his spin and uppercut an Ursa hard enough to completely eviscerate its head.

Ruby: Woah...

Ruby watched as Y/N tore away at waves of Grimm like they were made of paper.

(Y/N): Okay...

Y/N brought his arm up and pulled his shield back to him, which was holding a Grimm's corpse to the wall.

(Y/N): Alright, time to seal this tunnel.

Y/N stretched his arms and legs.

(Y/N): Let's see...

Looking down the tunnel another wave of Grimm were rushing down, completely unaware that the previous wave never made it into the city.

(Y/N): ...and the tunnel...

Y/N looked around him, checking to see the integrity of the supports and walls.

(Y/N): ...yeah, should be good.

Y/N dug his foot into the ground and cocked his fist back.

Ruby's eyes darted between the Grimm and Y/N, who looked like he was ready to throw a punch.

(Y/N): See ya!

The Grimm roared right as Y/N's fist went forward.

BOOM

The very air in the tunnel seemed to flow back toward Mountain Glenn as Y/N fist flew forward. With the sound of a sonic boom, the waves of Grimm were suddenly thrown back by the sheer force of air that came from Y/N's fist.

Ruby: Wooooaaaaahhhh!!!!

Ruby held on tightly to the ground as Y/N's attack sent an enormous amount of force down the tunnel.

The Grimm, no matter the size, were sent flying, some were torn to pieces by the powerful wall of air that was sent down the tunnel. At the same time, the tunnel itself began to collapse and close off passageway completely.

(Y/N): Hehe... easy peasy...

Y/N dusted off his hands.

(Y/N): Welp! Time to head hom- Eep!

Right as Y/N turned around, he was face to face with Ruby, who had enormous stars in her eyes.

Ruby: Wow!

(Y/N): Ruby! 0_o

Ruby: That was so cool!

(Y/N): Oh my god!

Ruby: You totally demolished them!

(Y/N): No!

Ruby began imitating Y/N's attacks.

Ruby: You were all like: Boom! And... and! Pow!... And then there was that big boom at the end, which was all like: Ka-boom!!!

(Y/N): Stop!

Ruby: How did you do that!?

(Y/N): Wait!

Ruby: Is that your Semblance!?

(Y/N): *panicked gurgling*

Ruby: That was amazing! How long could you do stuff like that!?

(Y/N): Let me-!

Ruby: So cool!

Ursa: *roar*!!!

Appearing directly behind Ruby, a large Ursa roared and attempted to attack the unaware students.

Ruby: *gasp*

The Ursa didn't give Ruby enough time to react before its claws were already mid swing, making her to close her eyes in panic.

BOOM

Ruby heard a loud boom and at first thought it was the Ursa claw hitting her. When she felt nothing, she slowly opened her eyes to see that the top half of the Ursa was completely gone. All that was left were the legs and lower torso, sticking out of the torso was the Ursa's spine... or what was left of it.

Ruby: W-woah...

Ruby slowly turned around to see Y/N with his fist out right next to her head.

(Y/N): o_0

Ruby: That...

(Y/N): Please...

Ruby: ..was...

(Y/N): ...don't...

Ruby: AMAZING!!!!

(Y/N): Q_Q

Ruby began jumping up and down.

Ruby: That was insane! You defeated a whole swarm of Grimm completely by yourself!

Y/N slowly put down his hand.

(Y/N): Q_Q

Ruby: Have you done this before? Wait, of course you have! Who trained you!? Where did you find them!? How long have you been doing this!? Can you teach me to do that stuff!?

Y/N didn't react to Ruby's barrage of questions.

(Y/N): Q_Q

Ruby: I can't believe you could so easily do all that! Those moves were so cool! I've never seen or even heard of someone that could pull of stuff like that!!! Are you already a Huntsman!?

Y/N started to sweat slightly.

Ruby: Psh! Of course you are with those kind of moves! Though I've never heard of a Huntsman so young... then again, who am I to doubt age? Just look at me!

Y/N lifted his left hand.

Ruby: How did you get so strong!? Do you think if we went out into the wilds you could do all that again!? Oh! You have to show the others! It'll be so ama-

Mid question, Y/N quickly moved his hand to lightly chop Ruby on the shoulder, causing her to stop talking... and then fall unconscious into his hands.

Y/N looked at the unconscious form of Ruby.

A faint breeze moved through the tunnel that carried a tumbleweed, that bounced by the two lone students.

(Y/N): ......This is so much worse!! Why did I do that!?

Y/N had just knocked out a girl that was younger than him and now held her unconscious form in his arms, which did not look very good for him.

(Y/N): Why!??!?!

Y/N panicked a little before he could faintly hear people coming from the tunnel back toward the entrance.

Y/N quickly picked up Ruby and began to head back toward the breach.

The City of Vale

Glynda: Are you sure they are down there?

Blake: Yes!

Yang: Ruby should be back in no time.

With the last of the Grimm dispatched, the Huntsmen gathered around the breach as the teachers waited for their missing students.

Oobleck: We'll send a search party.

Weiss: Ruby will be back, we promise!

Glynda looked angry at her students

Glynda: It was very irresponsible of you to send your leader alo-

(Y/N): Hello!!!

Y/N shouted out of the tunnel.

Blake: Y/N!

Weiss: Y/N!!!

Yang: Y/N you're okay!

Oobleck: Where is Ms. Rose?

(Y/N): I got her!

Y/N began to step out of the tunnel carrying Ruby in his arms.

Yang: What happened!?

(Y/N): *sweats* Uh... she... collapsed tunnel! To... buy us more time to escape! And she was hit in the head by some debris!

Weiss: Will she be okay?

Oobleck examined Ruby carefully.

Oobleck: Yes, she's simply out cold.

After Y/N came through, Glynda quickly sealed up the breach.

Ruby's teammates breathed a sigh of relief.

Blake: That's good.

Weiss: I'll say.

Yang: Are you alright Y/N?

(Y/N): Yeah... I'm- Woah!

Before Y/N could answer, he suddenly rose to his feet and put his hands up.

Weiss: What are you-?

The three girls turned around only to be surprised by the sight of all of Altas' soldiers aiming their weapons directly at them.

Blake: W-what's going on!?

The group of students and two teachers were taken aback when they saw they were completely surrounded by Atlas soldiers with their weapons ready.

Glynda: What is the meaning of this!?

Winter: Professor Goodwitch...

Winter stepped out from the crowd of Atlesian soldiers.

Winter: ...please take your colleague, and students and step away from the boy.

Blake: What!?

Weiss stepped forward.

Weiss: Winter, what's going on?

Winter: Weiss...

Winter glared at Y/N, her weapon drawn.

Winter: ...move away from him.

Weiss didn't know what to say.

Weiss: Winter?...

Glynda moved to the front and stared down the Atlesian Specialist.

Glynda: These are students of Beacon Academy! Under whose authority do you-

Ironwood: Under my authority.

A stern voice echoed from behind the firing line of Atlesian soldiers. A section of the soldiers surrounding the teachers and students, stepped to the side to allow their superior officer through.

Ironwood approached the group with a very serious look in his eyes.

Ironwood: Now, step away from Y/N. Now...

Ironwood glared at Y/N.
