"Tag, You're It!" -- 20 Things About Myself

Oh, welp. I’ve been tagged four times for this but alas I can only dedicate once! Despite the tagged dedication, this is for all FOUR of you lovely ladies: therideoflife, jespah, rosaimee, and AJSculder.

So here it is: 20 things about me! Some of which you might regret knowing…

1) I’m a very shy person in real life. Meeting new people and speaking in front of more than two people are terrifying notions. I’m so shy that I come across as cold or indifferent to new people when, in reality, all I want is to bury myself in the ground.

2) I’m a worst-case-scenario pessimist. Any event that has been planned, I can imagine ten things that can go wrong and this is (meant to be) a source of comfort as now I’m mentally prepared, should it all go to hell.

3) I have flat feet (pes planus) and bunions (hallux valgus) so I walk like a duck and can’t wear heels. Sad times.

4) I love art. I love almost all types of art except for modern art and abstract art. I can stare at the brushstrokes of a good painting all day.

5) I own a menagerie of pets – although I don’t think this is actually news. I own 4 leopard geckos, 3 frogs, 5 snakes, 5 tortoises, 3 turtles, and 1 Tegu. In the past, I also had another tortoise, 1 turtle, and 3 frogs.

6) I bite my nails. It’s a horrible habit I still have from childhood and I’ve never been rid of it – I think my longest record is 5 months. When I get stressed or bored, they’re the first things that go.

7) My favourite colour is purple. I have a purple stethoscope with my name lasered on it.

8) I’m a thrill-seeker in that my bucket list includes sky-diving, bungee-jumping, and deep sea diving. I love rollercoasters!

9) I get insomnia from time to time, worse with stress and then worsened with stress as I get anxious over it. Cycle continues until one day I conk out from exhaustion.

10) When I embarrass myself, I mull over it for weeks. I still mull over childhood embarrassments.

11) My university fees have put me in debt for the past four years. The joys of that combined with being unemployed never fails to bring a smile to my face.

12) In my class of 30 pupils back in secondary school (11-16 years old), I didn’t have anyone I’d call beyond a ‘friendly acquaintance’. It wasn’t that the class was clique-y (well, not VERY), it was more like I just didn’t fit in. I felt too old, too serious. To this day, I wonder if it was my own problem.

13) I love sushi. So much. I would eat that godly goodness for the rest of my life.

14) Same for bubble tea.

15) I travelled a lot as a kid. My kiddie passport used to have loads of stamps – you know, back when they used to stamp passports at immigration and before the EU existed. Contrast that with my adult self: unwilling to even leave the house for groceries.

16) I cannot tolerate spicy food. I was 14 when I could finally stand eating soft mints. At 22, I can survive a korma. Just.

17) I don’t exercise. I have zero exercise tolerance – you should see me chase a bus.

18) I have lots of llama stuffed toys (strictly speaking, they’re alpaca. But llama sounds cuter.)

19) I also have a lot of Rilakkuma merchandise. They are just so cute. I love cute things. I think they detract from my professional adultness but – they’re cute!

20) I admit, even at 22 I don’t know what I want to do with my life. Sure, I’m enrolled at uni, will probably get a job in the field in the end, but if you put my mind now into my 18-year-old body, I don’t think I’d be any wiser, still, about my future career. I’m just more pessimistic.

Well, it’s been enjoyably awkward talking about myself. So let’s spread that awkwardness elsewhere! I hereby nominate the following ladies to participate in this spill-your-guts activity!
