The Best Adoptive Daughter Ever

The day was almost drawing to a close. I was quietly sitting down on the edge of my bed, reading a book that Frodo had given me, which I had almost finished.

Just as I was about to flip to the last page, there was a knock on my bedroom door. Frodo was standing there with his hands tucked in his trouser pockets.

"I see you're reading the book that I gave you." He said in a good-natured voice. "Are you enjoying it?"

"It's a great book, Frodo. Thanks for asking." I answered.

"Do you mind if.....if I speak with you for a quick second?"

"About what? Did I do something wrong?" I stuttered.

"No, of course not, m'dear. I just wanted to ask you something."

Frodo approached me and sat down beside me on my comfy mattress. I set the book down in my lap.

"How are you feeling today, Brianna?"

"I'm alright. Why? Is something wrong, Frodo? You look upset about something."

Frodo shrugged his shoulders and didn't answer back.

I moved closer to him and placed my hand on his shoulder gingerly. "Frodo? What's wrong?" I asked.

"It's nothing. Nothing. You don't have to worry about me." Said Frodo.

"You look...sad."

"I'm not sad."

"You don't have to be sad, Frodo."

"I'm alright, dear."

"Frodo?"

Frodo took a deep breath. He was trying to hold something back but I didn't know what it was.

Why wouldn't he tell me? Was it because he was too embarrassed to tell me? Was it because he didn't want me to see him cry? I tried to ask him what was wrong but all he would do was mumble. Frodo didn't look alright. I knew that something was wrong.

"Frodo?" I asked him, softly.

"Remember what you said about how we should always be honest with each other?"

"Hmm."

"Why won't you tell me what's wrong? Please, Frodo. Please, tell me. You can trust me."

Frodo let out another loud sigh. "I know. You're right. I should be honest with you. It's just that....that...."

"Just what, Frodo?"

Tears began to flow down Frodo's angelic face. His eyes were pools of blue.

"I'm just....so....proud of you." He said in an emotional voice. "I love...y-y-you so much. I love you m-m-more than anything."

I reached towards Frodo and gave him a warm and comforting hug. I was overwrought with emotion.

I bawled my eyes out into his waistcoat and nestled my head underneath his chin.
"Oh, Frodo. I love you, too." I snivelled.

"I know....I know." He patted me on the back and kissed me on the forehead.

"Don't let go, Frodo. Don't let go."

"I will always...." He pointed his finger towards my heart. "be right here."
