Black Swan

I am everything you wanted me to be
Yet I am not enough
I am everything you created
The perfect doll, the perfect daughter
Yet I am not her

A perfect swan with wings so pure
With feathers so bright
She outshines us all
I'm merely the star lined constellation
When she is the iridescent moon

Feathers of grey turned raven black
Feathers that were once pure like hers
I play the role you've cast for me
My true self left behind

It is you who pushed me
into the dark lake
I drown and I drown
and I gasp for breath
But with my own wings I fly out
I survive

Yet you say I'm not perfect
I'm not nearly enough
I'm still not her
So I paint my feathers white
Pure as snow
Pure as her

Now I gaze into my reflection
An epitome of perfection
With skin of ivory and eyes of glass
Purer than the lake you pushed me into
Purer than the moon you adored
Purer than the whitest of swans

You stand there daunted and afraid
I am everything you turned me into
The perfect daughter, the perfect weapon
I raise my hands or shards of ice rather
You cower in fear as I strike

I swim in the crimson lake of your demise
Forever your perfect creation
Forever the
Black Swan

A poem from the black swan's point of view, inspired by The Swan Lake. I've been working on this one a while after taking a very long break from writing.
