2. Hell of a Ride
Tyler was even more hurt when Josh ignored him at school the next day, considering the situation that happened last night. Tyler couldn't tell if Josh was mad at him or not.
"What's wrong, Tyler? You seem upset today," Melanie pointed out as she slid into the desk next to him.
"Tired," Tyler responded, which wasn't a lie. He didn't sleep good last night.
"You sure that's it? You seem sad."
Tyler sighed, wishing he could tell her what was wrong. But Josh trusted him. He couldn't go against his word.
"Yeah, I really like this guy but he doesn't like me in the same way."
"Who?" Melanie urged, leaning over her lap towards Tyler.
"Dun," Tyler mumbled in her ear, making her gasp.
"Tyler! He's straight! And he's such a fuckboy. How could you like him?"
Tyler shrugged. Melanie was right. How could Tyler like him? But he didn't have an explanation, he just did. He saw something in Josh. He wanted to be the one to help Josh come to terms with the fact that he was gay.
"You're in for a hell of a ride, honey," Melanie sighed.
"Tell me about it," Tyler rolled his eyes.
Tyler knew that Josh had a reputation of using girls. He had to, apparently. He'd flirt with them, touch them, kiss them, leave them. Yes, Josh was a fuckboy, but no girl ever admitted to sleeping with him. That's because no girl ever had. Only Tyler did. But he would never confess it.
Tyler got jealous when he watched Josh flirt with other girls, or grab their asses when they walked by. He wished Josh would do it to him, but knew it would never happen.
"Is he even in school today?" Melanie asked.
"Yeah, there's a football game tonight so he better be unless he doesn't plan on playing."
"Are you going?"
"To the game?"
Melanie nodded.
"Why? Are you?"
"If you go, I will."
"Okay, it starts right when practice ends."
Melanie nodded, not questioning why Tyler seemed to always know the football schedule.
"Okay guys, take a seat," the English teacher spoke up, signaling that class was starting.
At lunch, Tyler sat with Melanie and a few other girls from his team. They were really his only friends. Melanie, Jenna, and believe it or not, Josh's sister Ashley. Sometimes he used her as an excuse to go to Josh's house.
"You did so good last night," Jenna complimented as Tyler sat down.
"Thanks, you had some pretty awesome digs yourself."
"Except for that one that hit me in my fucking boobs. You'll never understand how bad that hurts."
The four shared a laugh. Tyler watched his friends eat while he picked at his salad. He didn't have much of an appetite.
"Not hungry?" Melanie asked.
"Not really, you want it?"
"Tyler, you have to eat even if you're upset."
"Why's he upset?" Ashley asked.
Tyler shook his head at Melanie, silently begging her not to tell.
"He failed a world history test," Melanie lied. Tyler tried to hide his smile.
"You're so dramatic!" Ashley teased. "Just eat, it's not a big deal."
Tyler forced himself to shove forkfuls of salad into his mouth. He ate quietly while the rest of the girls talked about shopping, music, drama, and boys. He listened intently, especially when Ashley brought up Josh.
"He's been so distant lately, and I don't know why. He's a boy, so whys he acting like he's on his period? Tyler?"
"I don't know," Tyler shrugged. "Probably just got something on his mind."
As if on cue, Josh walked up behind Ashley, placing a hand on her shoulder. She turned around, worried that he'd heard them talking about him.
"Hey, are you staying after your practice?" He asked, barely able to keep his eyes off Tyler.
"Why?"
"Because I have a game?" Josh asked sarcastically.
"Oh, I guess."
"Okay, mom was asking."
Josh shifted his gaze from Ashley over to Tyler. He gave him a small smile.
"I like your outfit, by the way," Josh complimented.
"Thanks..." Tyler mumbled, blushing profusely. He hadn't expected Josh to even talk to him in front of all the girls.
Josh simply nodded before walking off to sit back with his friends. Tyler glanced down at the outfit he was wearing, a simple black crop top that nearly touched his high-waisted white skirt which had a floral pattern on it.
Melanie wanted to squeal. Instead, she gripped Tyler's wrist under the table and squeezed it. Tyler squeezed her knee in response, barely able to contain his excitement.
"Yeah, you look really cute today," Jenna noted, along with Ashley.
Nobody commented on the fact that Josh Dun had just said something slightly gay. It made Tyler smile. He knew Josh was worrying for nothing, although he would never admit it to his face.
"I'm not ready for practice," Jenna complained, earning collective groans from the rest of them.
"I'm nervous for our game tomorrow," Tyler said.
"I think we all are," Melanie chimed in.
"Hopefully we do good in practice today," Tyler sighed.
After practice, Tyler was more confident now than he was earlier. He, along with his team of course, did exceptionally well all practice. Aside from the joking around and having fun, of course.
Tyler changed with Melanie and Ashley in the girls' locker room. They changed out of their practice clothes and back into the outfits they'd worn to school. Tyler knew he was going to be cold, but thankfully Melanie had an extra hoodie. He gratefully slipped it on over his top.
The three went out and sat on the bleachers, the game being a few minutes in already. Tyler watched excitedly, even though he had no idea how football worked. It seemed so rough and aggravating. Tyler much preferred volleyball. It took a certain grace and strength that football players couldn't appreciate. Most of them always degraded volleyball, saying it shouldn't even be considered a sport.
Tyler snuggled in between his friends, watching Josh nearly the whole game. He didn't know exactly what position he played, but he knew that Josh ran up the field and sometimes got thrown the ball. Usually when that happened, Josh got tackled to the ground, making Tyler wince. He was always worried Josh would get seriously hurt.
Josh had already scored one touchdown before half-time, but the game was coming to an end. The score was 21-24 with their school in the lead. The other team currently had possession, and Tyler knew that if they scored, they won.
He was nervously chewing on his nails as the clock counted down to just under a minute. The other team hiked the ball and Tyler was practically on the edge of his seat. He watched the football fly through the air and land straight in Josh's hands.
Tyler, Ashley, and Melanie all stood up and cheered, hooping and hollering for Josh. He was running down the field, dodging defenders left and right. Eventually, he blew past everybody, earning them another touch down just before the clock ran out.
Tyler threw his arms over his head, screaming along with his friends. He realized how loudly everyone was cheering, wondering why nobody cheered for volleyball like that. The thought made him a little upset.
After the game, he wanted more than anything to run up to Josh and hug him. But instead, he calmly walked with Melanie and Ashley and patiently waited until Josh was done talking to his coach. After that, he finally ran over to the girls and Tyler.
"Good job!" Ashley grinned, high-fiving him.
"That was awesome," Tyler added, smiling up at the yellow-haired boy.
"Thanks, I know," Josh winked, making Tyler's cheeks flush red. He knew Josh was copying the words he'd used yesterday.
The girls blew the not-so-subtle wink off as Josh trying to be funny. They had no idea.
"Well, I have to leave like right now. My moms going to be pissed because I didn't even tell her I was staying for the game. See you tomorrow guys!" Melanie suddenly announced before running off toward the parking lot.
"I don't have a ride home," Tyler said to Ashley. "I was going to ask Mel but.."
"That's okay! Josh will take you home, right Josh?" Ashley asked, looking at her brother.
"Sure," Josh nodded, slinging his bag over his shoulder. "Let's get going."
Tyler walked next to Ashley as Josh led them to his truck. Tyler's mind went to all of the dirty things him and Josh had done in this truck. In the seat Ashley was in, Josh had given Tyler a blowjob. In Josh's seat, he'd received his own. In the backseat where Tyler sat, Josh had fucked him senseless.
Tyler blushed thinking about it. He wished Ashley wasn't with them so him and Josh could be alone. He secretly hoped Josh would drop her off and then take him home, but it didn't happen.
Josh pulled up to Tyler's house. Tyler grabbed his bags and left the car, walking up to his front door. He turned to wave. Ashley waved back while Josh blew a kiss to him behind her. Tyler felt himself smile as he went inside. He closed the door, leaning against it. He was in for a hell of a ride.
