12. Happy and In Love
There was a knock at the door.
"In the shower!" Tyler tried not to slur his words.
"Can I come in?"
Josh.
Tyler swore he never sighed so deeply.
"No."
"Are you actually in the shower?"
"No, leave me alone. I don't want to see you," Tyler mumbled, leaning against the door to hold himself upright.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm fine!" Tyler hissed, fists clenching in rage. "Leave me alone!"
The other side of the door fell silent. Tyler waited a few minutes, assuming Josh had left. He turned the shower off and opened the door. Josh stood on the other side, making Tyler slam the door shut again. Before he could lock it, Josh swung it back open and stood in the way.
"Go away!" Tyler weakly pushed Josh, not being very strong in his drunken state.
"Tyler are you wasted?" Josh asked in disbelief.
"Like you fucking care," he responded sarcastically.
"I do. I know you don't believe me, but I do care. I'm really sorry. I just-"
"Shut up," Tyler muttered. "I'm sick of your stupid excuses. There's no excuse for hurting me. I'm so sick of you. You clearly don't need me, so I guess I don't need you. Bye, Josh. You can leave now."
"I'm not leaving." Josh's arms folded across his chest.
"It's my house, get the hell out!"
"Tyler, I love you." The desperation was evident in Josh's face as he frowned down at the brunette. He truly did love him. He couldn't explain why he'd hurt him so much. Tyler was right, there was no excuse. He wanted to make it up to Tyler.
"No you don't. Stop lying to me. Stop lying to yourself. You love the sex, not me."
"That's not true," Josh sighed. He stepped forward, lacing his finger's with Tyler's who hesitantly let him.
"I'm sorry you don't love me," Tyler whispered, drunk thoughts consuming sober ones.
"I do, Tyler. I really love you. God, you're so stupid. Why do you have to be drunk right now?"
"I miss you, Josh," Tyler frowned, tears prickling his eyes.
"I'm right here, baby," Josh said softly, reaching up to wipe a stray tear off of Tyler's cheek.
"No, I miss how you were last weekend. I want cuddly, lovey Josh back. Not mean, making me cry, making me feel like shit Josh."
"I'm sorry. He's back now, okay?"
"He's not gonna stay," Tyler concluded, head tilting towards to floor.
"Yes he is, I promise. I hate hurting you. I never want to do it again."
Tyler mentally rolled his eyes, remembering how Josh had said that to him before. The very first time he told Tyler he loved him.
"I don't believe you."
"Please, Tyler. I'll really try. I wouldn't be begging to be with you right now if I didn't love you."
"Fine," Tyler muttered, finally giving in.
Josh pulled him in for a comforting hug, one that slowly eased the tension off Tyler's chest. Tyler knew it was stupid for him to believe Josh, but he couldn't help it. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he was in love with him. No matter how much Josh messed up, he always made it up to Tyler. It had to have meant something.
"Josh?"
"Yeah, baby?"
"Will you come out?"
Josh inhaled sharply, not expecting to hear those words.
"Tyler..."
"Please?" Tyler interrupted, milky brown eyes meeting Josh's.
"I'm... I'm scared," Josh admitted, feeling like a wimp.
"I know, but no matter what happens you'll still have me. So it won't be too bad, right?"
"Right..." Josh spoke slowly. "But my parents-"
"Come out to them, too," Tyler interrupted again. "If they kick you out, you can come live with me."
"It's embarrassing..."
"What's embarrassing? Loving me is embarrassing? Because if that's the case then you can leave and not come back."
"No, not loving you. The fact that I have to come out. I can't just kiss you in front of everyone and know everyone will think it's normal. Straight people don't have to come out. Why do I have to?"
"Well, I guess you don't," Tyler thought, brain working slowly. "We can go around acting like a couple, you can introduce me to your parents as your boyfriend, and you don't have to come out and say you're gay."
"Okay," Josh agreed, feeling slightly relaxed at the idea. "How're you feeling?"
"Happy and in love," Tyler giggled, nuzzling his face against Josh's chest.
"So you're feeling better?"
"Mhm, but my head hurts and I feel dizzy."
"Wanna take a nap?"
"With you?" Tyler asked, eyes wide and full of hope.
"Sure," Josh chuckled, watching the younger squeal in excitement.
They climbed into bed together, cuddling under the warm blankets. Josh absentmindedly played with Tyler's hair, while Tyler listened to the rhythmic beat of Josh's heart. The sound lulled him to sleep. Josh followed not too shortly after, knowing the door was wide open but not caring if anybody were to see them.
