1.  The One Where Allison Gets a Roommate

• • •

The Central Perk was a quiet little coffee shop on the corner of the street Allison currently resided in.

She was never quite fond of the place, but she met there often to talk with her friends about work, love, and the fact that they all say there on Wednesday morning when they should be at their jobs.

She met with her closest friends and her irritatingly awkward brother, Stiles. Or, as Allison always said when she was younger, step brother.

Allison's mother had remarried Stiles' father when both her and Stiles were very young.  Making them grow up as if they were related by blood.

Allison's mother always treated Stiles like he was her very own son, but sometimes that very fact became an issue for Allison.

Stiles was what Allison liked to call 'the favorite'.  From medals to awards in everything but sports, Stiles was the child parents dreamt of.  Whereas Allison was always known as the 'little chubby around the edges' kid.  Which was a nickname given to her by the one only, Allison's brother, Stiles Stilinski.

Luckily, Allison grew out of that awkward teen stage that everyone goes through and lost a tremendous amount of weight.

Now she lives in the Big Apple with her brother; Stiles, his old roommate from college; Scott McCall, Scott's new roommate; Isaac Lahey, and one of her closest friends; Kira Yukimura.

Basically life was pretty much looking good for Allison at this point.  She had her life figured out and everything.

But that all changes when her former best friend from high school, Lydia Martin, rushes into Allison's life once again in only a wedding gown.

And the one thing Lydia forgot to bring was a wedding invitation for Allison.

But at least, she has her friends.

• • •

"There's nothing to tell. It's just some guy I work with." Allison exasperated not wanting to talk about the man any longer.

She sat on the small couch with four pairs of eyes staring her down. Waiting to hear her next sentence.

"Come on. You're going out with the guy. There's got to be something wrong with him." Isaac pleaded with Allison hoping he could hear a story a little more interesting than his life at the moment.

Allison ignored the comment before turning her head to Scott to hear his thoughts. "So, does he have a hump and a hairpiece?"

Allison rolled her eyes knowing that Scott comment wouldn't have been much better than Isaac's.

"Wait, does he eat chalk?" Kira looked up at Allison thinking she knew the answer.

Allison looked at Kira before mouthing 'what' knowing that Kira was a little crazy.

"Just 'cause I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl." Kira said before sighing in concern remembering her previous boyfriend issues.

"Okay, everybody relax. This is not even a date. It's two people going out to dinner and not having sex." Allison corrected trying to calm her friends down.

She felt like she was in high school, back when all the kids got siked because a boy asked them go see a movie. Now, Allison only got siked when a new cooking utensil comes in the mail.

"Sounds like a date to me." Scott replied as Allison narrowed her eyes at him.

• • •

"Alright, so I'm back in high school. I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria and I realize I am totally... naked." Scott says recalling the dream he just went through the night before.

Both Allison and Isaac reply with a small laugh and a quick 'I've had that dream' before taking another sip of their coffee.

Kira sits on the floor next to the coffee table playing with paper as Scott and Allison sit on the couch with Isaac on the arm chair to the right.

"Then, I look down and I realize there is a phone...there." Scott says rendering Isaac and Allison speechless and confused.

"Instead of...?"

"That's right." Scott interrupts making Kira look up as if suddenly getting the point.

"Yeah, I've never had that dream." Isaac, Allison, and Kira speak.

"All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring and it turns out it's my mother." Allison looks up with a smile as Kira stifles a laugh before Scott continues.

"Which is very, very weird because she never calls me." Scott shakes his head as Allison laughs.

• • •

"Hi." Stiles fakes a smile before slowly hanging his head towards his feet.

It was rainy and when Stiles ran into the small coffee shop he was soaked and with an umbrella in his hands leading everyone to think he just wanted to make himself look pitiful.

"This guy says 'hello I want to kill myself'." Isaac jokes of Stiles' demeanor making Stiles look even more upset if that was possible.

"Are you okay, sweetie?" Allison turns to her brother placing a hand on his arm.

"I feel like someone reached down my throats grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out my mouth and tied it around my neck." Stiles explains walking over towards where Scott was sitting.

"Cookie?" Scott holds up a plate of cookies to Stiles as he finished his long and graphic statement.

"Malia moved her stuff out today." Allison reminded Scott making everyone nod their heads in understanding. Allison stood before speaking, "let me get you some coffee."

"Thanks," Stiles mumbled before sitting in Allison's place on the couch.

"Ooh. Ugh..." Kira flinched before pretending to pick particles out of Stiles' hair.

"No. oh, no. No, don't. stop cleansing my aura." Stiles tells Kira not being in the mood to deal with her hippie ways. "Just leave my aura alone, okay?"

Kira scoots away from Stiles knowing that she shouldn't mess with him at the moment. "I'll be fine, all right? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy."

"No, you don't." Allison spoke.

"No I don't. To hell with her. She left me." Stiles exclaims before sighing and sitting back on the couch.

"And you never knew she was a lesbian?" Isaac asking knowing he'd know if his wife was a lesbian or not.

He also was quite confused Stiles didn't catch on earlier considering that dance Malia shared with Kira a couple years back was anything but straight.

"No. Okay? Why does everyone keep fixating on that?" Stiles raises his voice still a little bit irritated. Isaac shrugs before taking a sip of his coffee, "she didn't know. How should I know?"

"Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian." Scott speaks while reading a magazine. Everyone looks up at Scott with a weird expression.

"Did I say that out loud?" Scott asks in shock as he looked up from his paper.

"All right, Stiles, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?" Isaac asks staring at Stiles with a smirk on his lips.

Stiles motions for him to continue as Isaac yells, "strip joints!" Stiles rolls his head back actually expecting Isaac to say something smart for once. "Oh, come on. You're single. Have some hormones." Isaac smiles dropping his voice at the word hormones.

"See, but I don't want to be single, okay? I just, I just, I just want to be married again." Stiles sighs upset making Allison feel slightly bad for him.

But right as Stiles finished the bell to the shop rung. Everyone turned their heads to see none other than a woman with a wedding dress on, running through the doors.

"And I just want a million dollars." Scott spoke holding his hand out to the door the woman just rushed through.

"Lydia?" Allison got up from her seat and approached the woman.

Lydia turned to face Allison before a huge smile spread across her face. "Oh, god, Allison, hi. Thank god." Lydia sighs in relief as she goes to hug Allison. "I just went to your building and you weren't there and then this guy with a big hammer said that you might be here, and you are. You are." Lydia smiles shaking Allison's hands around in excitement.

"Can I get you some coffee?" A girl from behind the counter spoke towards them making Allison turn around.

"Decaf." Allison spoke before placing her hands on Lydia and leading her towards her friends. "Okay, everybody, this is Lydia another Beacon Hill High survivor. This is everybody.  This is Scott, and Kira, and Isaac, and you remember my brother Stiles?" Allison asked.

"Sure." Lydia walked towards Stiles to hug him remembering him from high school, but right before she went to hug him his umbrella flew open as Stiles closed it quickly and awkwardly before quietly sitting down on the couch again.

Lydia smiled awkwardly before sitting next to Stiles on the couch.  Lydia smiled and flattened her dress as she sat up straight like her mother always taught her to do as a child.

"So, you want to tell us now or are we waiting for four wet bridesmaids?" Allison asked wondering why the hell Lydia was wearing a wedding dress in the pouring rain. Allison always knew Lydia has a keen taste for style but not like this.

"Oh, god.  Well, it started about a half hour before the wedding.  I was in this room where we were keeping all the presents and I was looking at this gravy boat.  This really gorgeous Limoges gravy boat.  When all of a sudden...sweet and low?" Lydia turned to the waitress to take her coffee before continuing.  "I realized that I was more turned on by this gravy boat than by Jackson."

"And then I got really freaked out and that's when it hit me.  How much Jackson looks like Mr. Potato Head. You know, I mean, I always knew he looked familiar, but..." Lydia cringed a little thinking of it.

Lydia handed the cream to Stiles as she continued talking only to make Stiles confused before slightly shaking it and pouring it in her coffee.

"Anyways, and I started wondering, why am I doing this and who am I doing this for? So, anyway, I just didn't know where to go and I know that you and I have kinda drifted apart but you're the only person I knew who lived in the city." Lydia explained with a small smile towards Allison.

"Who wasn't invited to the wedding." Allison spoke with a fake smile.

"Oooh, I was kind of hoping that wouldn't be an issue." Lydia faked a smile with a little flinch as Stiles still sat stirring Lydia's coffee.

• • •

Lydia paced around Allison's kitchen with the phone pressed firmly to her cheek and the beads of her dress scratching across the ground.

Scott, Kira, Allison, Stiles, and Isaac all sat gathered around the TV watching the daily Spanish soap opera that came on at noon exactly while secretly eavesdropping on Lydia's conversation.

"Now I'm guessing that he bought her the big pipe organ and she's really not happy about it." Allison spoke confused as ever due to the language barrier.

"Dad, I just... I can't marry him. I'm sorry.  I just don't love him." Lydia spoke trying to explain why she ditched Jackson at the alter. She paused before speaking again. "Well, it matters to me." Lydia said making Stiles assume her father was not one for love in marriage.

"Oooo, she should not be wearing those pants." Scott shook his head while pointing at the girl on the screen.

"I say push her down the stairs." Isaac spat watching the two women on the screen fight.

"Push her down the stairs! Push her down the stairs!" Everyone started chanting right as the woman shoved he blonde down the stairs as she tumbled to the ground while everyone cheered watching her tumble.

"Come on, dad, listen to me.  It's like all of my life everyone has always told me, 'you're a shoe'.  'You're a shoe. 'You're a shoe. 'You're a shoe. And then today I just stopped and said 'what if I don't want to be a shoe? 'What if I want to be a purse? You know? Or-or a hat?" Lydia exasperated as Isaac, Scott, and Kira turned around to stare at Lydia weirdly.

Even Stiles turned from the fridge with a drink in his hand with one eyebrow raised. "No, I don't want you to buy me a hat. I'm saying that I am a hat...it's a metaphor, dad!" Lydia snapped.

"You can see where he'd have trouble." Stiles spoke knowing how odd Lydia's metaphor was. Lydia whipped her head to Stiles and glared as he backed away and towards the couch.

"Look, dad, it's my life.  Well, maybe I'll just stay here with Allison." Everyone turned to Allison who shrugged before speaking.

"Well, I guess we've established she's staying here with Allison."

"Well, maybe that my decision." Lydia scoffed before speaking again. "Well, maybe I don't need your money. Wait, wait! I said maybe!" Lydia yelled in panic realizing what she had said before checking the phone and realizing her father had hung up.

Lydia knew that the decision to leave Jackson was a big one, but she wasn't happy and she never would be with Jackson.

• • •

Lydia sat on Allison's white couch frantically breathing into a paper bag. She couldn't breathe and just the idea of not being rich with her dad's money made her want to vomit all over Allison's coffee table.

"Okay, just breathe. That's it. Just try to think of nice, calm things." Allison tried to calm Lydia down but to her dismay it of course was not working.

"Raindrop on roses and whiskers on kittens.  Doorbells and sleigh bells and something with mittens. La la la something with string, these are a few..." Kira sang before she was stopped by Lydia's hand.

"I'm all better now." Lydia aid abruptly wanting Kira to stop weirding her out.

Kira smiled before turning to Scott and Isaac, "I helped."

"Okay, look this is probably for the best, you know. Independence, taking control of your life." Allison explains.

"And hey, you need anything you can always come to Isaac." Isaac sat on the top of the couch placing a hand on Lydia's bare shoulder with a slight smirk on his face. "Me and Scott live right across the hall and he's away a lot." Isaac smiled with a wink making both Lydia and Allison cringe.

"Isaac stop hitting on her! It's her wedding day," Allison yelled.

"What, like there's a rule or something?"

Suddenly the intercom buzzed three times making Scott get up to see who it was. "Please don't do that again. It's a horrible sound."

"Uh, it's...its Matt."

"Buzz him in!" Allison's eyes widened.

"Who's Matt?" Isaac questioned.

"Matt the wine guy? Matt?" Stiles asked defensively pointed an accusing finger at Allison.

"Maybe."

"Wait a minute 'you're not a real date tonight' is with Matt the wine guy?" Isaac exasperated.

"He finally asked you out?" Stiles asked not believing what he was hearing.

"Yes." Allison squared hugging Stiles.

"This is a dear diary moment." Scott said sarcastically.

"Lyds, wait. I can cancel." Allison looked at Lydia already feeling guilty.

"Please, no, go. I'll be fine." Lydia assured Allison.

"Stiles, are you okay? I mean, do you want me to stay?" Allison turned to her brother.

"That would be good." Stiles said clearly over exaggerating his sadness.

"Really?"

"No! Go on! ITS MATT THE WINE GUY!" Stiles threw his hands in the air.

Allison walked over to the door to open it for Matt, "hi, come in."

Allison quickly introduced everyone before Scott stuck his head out from behind Isaac, "I'm sorry I didn't catch your name, Matt was it?" Scott said sarcastically already sick of the amount of times Allison had said his name.

Allison told Matt to sit down before quickly going to finish up getting ready for their 'date'.

"Ooooo I just pulled out four eyelashes. That can't be good." Kira said turning to Lydia.

"So Lydia, what are you up to tonight?" Stiles asked averting the conversation from Kira's eyelashes.

"Well, I was kind of supposed to be headed for Aruba on my honeymoon so, nothing."  Lydia awkwardly giggled.

"Right. You're not even getting your honeymoon.  God... no... Aruba.  This time of year, talk about your...big lizards." Stiles awkwardly  explains staring down at his drink trying to look anywhere but Lydia's eyes.   "Anyway, if you don't feel like being alone tonight uh Isaac and Scott are helping me put together my new furniture."

"Yes, and we're very excited about it." Scott sarcastically said as he leaned on the chair next to Lydia's.

"Well thanks, but I'm going to hang out here tonight. It's been a long day."

"Oh sure. Okay, sure." Stiles tried to play it 'cool' as Lydia stood up and walked away.

"Hey Kira, you want to help?" Isaac turned to Kira who was standing by the sink.

"Oh, I wish I could, but I don't want to." Kira stated bluntly.

• • •

Stiles' apartment was small but cozy although Stiles didn't feel quite cozy in the position his legs were in as he crouched on the floor reading the instructions to his new furniture. "I'm supposed to attach a brackety thing to the side things using a bunch of these little worm guys."

Stiles looked down at the wood piece under him that was far from being a full piece of furniture.  "I have no brackety thing. I see no worm guys whatsoever.  And I cannot feel my legs." Stiles said clearly in pain as Scott and Isaac stood near the book case clearly not interested.

"What's this?" Isaac picked up a metal piece that looked important towards Scott.

"I have no idea."

"Done with the bookcase!" Isaac yelled stuffing the piece in the fake plant by the door hoping it wasn't important.

Stiles slowly walked out of his kitchen with a frown etched on his face and a beer can in his hand.  "This was Malia's favorite beer. She always drank it out of the can.  I should have known."

"Stiles, let me ask you a question. She got the furniture,  the stereo, the good tv.  What did you get?" Isaac asked exhausted already just by thinking about all the work they'll have to do making Stiles' furniture.

"You guys."

"Oh, my god," Scott looked at Isaac.

"You got screwed," Isaac nodded.

• • •

"You know what the scariest part is? What if there's only one woman for everybody? You know, I mean what if you get one woman and that's it?" Stiles says professing all his thoughts and feeling to Isaac and Scott. "Unfortunately, for me there was only one woman for her."

"What are you talking about? One woman." Isaac scoffed from the kitchen.  He couldn't even imagine settling down for anyone.  "That's like saying there's only one flavor of ice cream for you.  Let me tell you something, Stiles. There's a lot of flavors out there.  There's rocky road and cookie dough and bing cherry vanilla.  You can get them with jimmies or nuts or whipped cream.  This is the best thing that's ever happened to you." Isaac explained giving Scott a beer and then throw an arm over Stiles' shoulder.

"You got married.  You were like what, eight?" Isaac looks at Scott giggling a little as Scott just rolled his eyes.  "Welcome back to the world, grab a spoon."

"I honestly don't know if I'm hungry or horny." Stiles stated looking at Isaac weird.

"Then stay out of my freezer." Scott cringed staring at Stiles awkwardly.

Stiles honestly didn't know if he was ready to be single again.  He was surprised enough that Malia wanted to marry him in the first place.  Now that she was gone and he had to move on he didn't know where his life would take him or into the arms of whom.

• • •

The next morning Lydia wasn't surprised to see Scott and Isaac sitting at the kitchen table so she decided it was time to test her newfound independence lit.  "Isn't this amazing? I mean I've never made coffee before in my entire life."

"That is amazing." Scott sarcastically stated still not believing that Lydia was so spoiled she had never made her own coffee before.

"Congratulations," Isaac smiled.  "While you're on a role if you feel like you got to make a western omelet or something..." Isaac winked before taking a sip of his coffee.

Isaac cringed with a look of disgusted before slowly pouring the rest of the coffee into the plant on the table while Lydia's back was turned. "Although actually I'm really not that hungry this morning."

"Morning," Lydia smiled as Allison walked into the kitchen to which she smiled and replied with a 'morning' back.

Suddenly the door to Allison's bedroom slammed and out walked Matt slowly putting on his jacket, "Morning."

No one had heard anything from Allison about her date the night before, but now they all seemed to know why.

"Morning, Matt," Isaac smirked at Allison.

"Hello Matt," Lydia chimed in.

"Hello, Matt is it?" Scott sarcastically asked with a smiled plastered on his face.

Allison walked Matt out into the hallway as Isaac, Scott, and Lydia all leaned towards the door listening to their conversation.

Allison closed the door before leaning against it with a look of awe in her eyes.  "That wasn't a real date." Isaac spoke repeating Allison's words from the day before.

"What the hell do you do on a real date?" Isaac smirked.

"Shut up and put my table back." Allison deadpanned as her OCD kicked in.

"Alright kids I got to get to work.  If I don't input those numbers...it doesn't make much of a difference." Scott explained while helping push the table back.

"So, like, you guys all have jobs?" Lydia wondered because she had never worked a day in her life.

"Yeah, we all have jobs. See, that's how we buy stuff." Allison explained.

"Yeah.  I'm an actor." Isaac smiled at Lydia trying to impress her.

"Wow, well have I seen you in anything?"

"I doubt it. Mostly regional work." Isaac nodded trying to look cool for Lydia.

"Unless you catch the wee ones production of Pinocchio." Allison sat down at the table making fun of Isaac.

"Look, Gepetto, I'm a real live boy." Scott smiled mocking Isaac.

"I will not take this abuse."

"You're right, I'm sorry... once I was a wooden boy, a little wooden boy." Scott threw his hands in the air mocking Pinocchio while running out of the house towards his apartment with Isaac rolling his eyes and closing the door behind him.

"So how you doin today? Did you sleep okay? Did you talk to Jackson? I can't stop smiling." Allison tried to wipe the smile off her face as she talked to Lydia but it was no use.

"I can see that. You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth." Lydia smiled at her friend.

"I know. He's just so... you remember you and Aiden." Allison recalled Lydia and high school distraction.

"Oh, yeah." Lydia perked up remember how much she enjoyed their relationship.

"Well, it's like that...with feelings."

"Oh, wow, are you in trouble." Lydia shook her head smiling.

"I am just going to get up, go to work, and not think about him all day." Allison stated proudly.

"Or else I'm just gonna get up and go to work." Allison shrugged before getting up and heading for the door.

"Oh wish me luck!" Lydia explained before Allison left.

"What for?"

"I'm going to get one of those job things." Lydia beamed as Allison nodded with a smile and walked out.

• • •

"Of course it was a line!" Isaac chuckled throwing his hands up.  Allison had said to them that Matt had told her he wasn't able to have sex for two whole years until Allison came along.  Allison felt special, but knowing that he had lied just to get into her pants made her furious.

"Why would anybody do something like that?!" Allison yelled clearly upset.

"I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated then 'to get you into bed.'" Stiles stated obviously unimpressed.

"Is it me?! Is it like I have some sort of beacon that only dogs and men with severe emotional problems can hear?" Allison asked still somewhat sad.

"Alright come here, give me your feet." Kira waved Allison over for a massage.

"I just thought he was nice, you know?" Allison finally stated sadness in her eyes.

"I can't believe you didn't know it was a line." Isaac scoffed trying to hold back his laughter right before Allison yanked her hand out and pushed Isaac off the couch.

"Guess what!" Lydia came running into the little coffee shop with a small bag in her hand.

"You got a job?!" Stiles asked a little too excited for Lydia.

"Are you kidding? I'm trained for nothing." Lydia smiled contradicting her statement.  "I was laughed out of 20 interviews," Lydia smiled.

"And yet you're surprisingly upbeat." Scott stated confusion in his eyes.

"Well you would be too if you found Joan and David boots in sale 50% off."

"Oh, how well you know me," Scott sighs again with the sarcasm.

"There my new I-don't-need-a-job-I-don't-need-my-parents-I've-got-great-boots boots." Lydia smiled hugging her new shoe.

"How did you pay for them?" Allison asked knowing that she used someone else's money.

"A credit card."

"And who pay's for that." Allison asked as Lydia packed her shows back in the box.

"Um...my father." Lydia mumbled before walking away from Allison.

• • •

"Come on.  You can't live off your parents your whole life." Allison explained putting a pair of scissors on the table next to Lydia's many credit cards.

"I know that. That's why I was getting married." Lydia sighed wanted to live her pampered life again but knowing full well it was time to be independent and take control of her life.

"Give her a break it's hard being on your own for the first time." Kira said defending Lydia.

"Thank you," Lydia turned to Kira with a smile.

"Your welcome, I remember when I first came to this city.  I was 14, my mom had just killed herself and my stepdad was back in prison and I got here and didn't know anybody. I ended up living with this Albino guy who was like cleaning windshields outside port authority and then he killed himself and then I found a aroma therapy. So, believe me I know exactly how you feel." Kira smiled before getting up leaving Lydia with a wide eyes and an open mouth.

"The word you're looking for is...anyway..." Stiles said awkwardly before taking the seat Kira previously sat in.

"All right. You ready?"

"I don't think so." Lydia shook her head staring at the scissors in Allison's hand.

"Oh come on, cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut. Cut." They all chanted around Lydia before she quickly cut all the cards in half.

"Yay, welcome to the real world, it sucks, you're gonna love it." Allison said as they all clap before she stood up and hugged Lydia.

• • •

"Welp, that's it." Allison shut off the tv as she sat on the couch beside her brother and Lydia on the chair beside him.

"You want to crash on the couch?" Allison turned to Stiles.

"No. I got to go home sometime." Stiles rubbed his temple sleep overtaking him.

"You going to be okay?"

"Yeah," Stiles smiled down at Allison before she leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. Stiles may have always picked on Allison as a child and was of course the favorite child but deep down she did truly love her brother just as Stiles loved her.

"Hey, Alli, look what I found on the floor." Lydia picked up a watch from the floor to show to Allison as a wicked smirk plastered her lips, "what?"

"That's Matt's watch. You can just put it back where you found it." Lydia looked up her weird before placing it back on the ground and leaning back on the couch.

Allison stood up before heading her room, but not before staring down at the watch lifting her foot up and stomping it to pieces. "Goodnight everybody."

Lydia awkwardly smiled at Stiles before reaching for the last cookie on the tray in front of her, but just as she reached so did Stiles. "Oh, sorry."

"Oh, uh, no. Go."

"No you can have."

"No really I don't want it."

"Why don't we split it?" Stiles looked at Lydia with a smile.

"Okay."

Lydia mumbled a thanks before taking the cookie, "you probably didn't know this but back in high school I had a...major crush on you." Stiles chuckled looking at his cookie trying to play it off cooler than usual.

"I knew," Lydia gulped staring at Stiles.

"You did? I always figured you just thought I was Allison's geeky older brother." Stiles smiled trying not to believe his words.

"I did," Lydia giggled as Stiles' eyes widened and his lips forming an 'o'.

"Listen, do you think...and try not to let my intense vulnerability become any kind of factor here...but do you think it would be okay if I asked you out maybe?" Stiles gulped waiting for the rejection.

Stiles didn't ever think he'd be sitting on the couch asking Lydia freaking Martin out after being dumped by Malia. So many thoughts were swirling around in his head as he thought that he shouldn't have asked. It had only been a day since she broke off her marriage he was putting to much pressure on her.

But all these thoughts were diminished when Lydia looked into Stiles' eye and smiled before answering.

"Yeah."

And in that moment, Stiles knew he'd be okay.
